While sagar grounded that masculinity has been contextualised over time, by geography, religion, ethnicity etc, yet some things like bravery and courage have remained constant mostly. Rachit shared that 3 things have shaped his understanding of masculinity viz., Toys & colours, Gestures and responses & hobbies and interest. All of these have been defined socially for men, and this is what defines masculinity for men. • For some, Masculinity gets defined as doing or experiencing things that women arent supposed to or allowed to. Today we marched with teachers, students and parents in protest against the unsafe, racist, and inequitable reopening of public schools. Jo and I almost canceled having this march today because of all of the horrible things we have been experiencing this week and I couldn’t be happier that we didn’t. I am so proud and grateful of Jo and Madi for pulling through today and speaking out against the reopenings and for not being afraid to call out the shameful things the UFT and the DOE have been doing. Everything from not cleaning the schools, not providing trauma informed teaching guidance, and calling the police on children who remove their mask more than twice during the school day... I am so thankful and proud of my amazing team of marshals who really pulled through today even though we had a small team. They did such an amazing job keeping the march safe and helping out each other. I am so happy to see how community safety has been evolving lately and I’m happy to be able to march with such incredible people who truly do the work to keep us safe. This march brought me so much joy and pride and I don’t think I could have ever asked for anything better. Thank you so much to everyone who continues to support these actions. The people united will never be defeated and today I saw that happen in a very beautiful way. Special shoutout to @rudemechanicalorchestra for helping us make beautiful noise; to @lesthegray for bringing us all pizza before the march and for being so awesome head side marshaling for their first time; @theblackwomencollective for providing us with incredible chants; and @merofero for leading us in those chants!! We need to get justice for all victims of police violence. On July 3, 2019 Rocky Boy Cree Tribal Member Stonechild “Stoney” Chiefstick was killed by the Poulsbo Police Department Officer Craig Keller. Poulsbo is a small majority white town in Kitsap County, Washington—it borders the Suquamish Indian Reservation & the Port Gamble S’Klallam Indian Reservation, and like many “border towns” has historically had many racial problems towards Native people. Stoney is a loving father and was tragically taken from his babies by law enforcement, like so many Native people before him. We’ll tell more about Stoney’s story & the investigation & the family’s pursuit of justice. As the letter from Kitsap County Prosecutor Chad M. Enright says himself about reviewing when police kill people, “the current system does not appear fair.” All in due time. I and my fellow Native attorney Gabe Galanda have been retained as Advocate and attorneyfor three of his children and their mother. We are going to do our best to ensure that this precious Native brother’s life creates change in police culture. There will be more action steps later and we will keep you informed. But what I need for folks to do right now is to contact Washington State Attorney General Bob Ferguson ( @agbobferguson ) and tell him he must review this case independently. His number is 206-464-7744 and tell them they MUST independently review Stonechild Chiefstick’s case. The Attorney General has already said it will review 30-some other cases where police killed people in 2020. Stoney can’t be “just another” Native person who killed by the police or who died a violent death. It happens way too much. Stoney’s case also can’t be overlooked simply because it happened 4 months before the end of 2019. It must be independently reviewed and you all can help. Please make sure we hold his killer accountable. All the family members, friends, allies and accomplices who contacted me and said we have to work together, I’m inviting you to work with us during this time. Thank you. The structures of injustice, oppression and irrational hatred that are woven into the fabric of our culture, this tightly woven cloth that protects white institutions and his-stories at all costs, must give way. Black Lives Matter. There are too many gifts being ignored, suppressed, imprisoned, and murdered. Let the knee on George Floyd’s neck be that loose thread that we can now pull and unravel the cloak. Take a knee. Protest. Grab your neighbor’s hand and sing. Talk to strangers. You cannot do nothing. Do not be complicit in this deadly cloak. We can weave a new fabric in our country with threads of justice and equity and acknowledgment and respect and kindness and trust. We owe it to George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, the black citizens who died in Tulsa ninety nine years ago today, the enslaved who built this country, all those individuals and generations who have been suffocated by that cloak of evil. We owe it to our society now. We owe it to those unborn Americans patiently waiting for the opportunity to be great. Let greatness breathe. We called for an independent investigation of Dutertes human rights violations and for the UN General Assembly to adopt the EU Parliment resolutions calling for such investigations. The UN must utilize its mechanisms to uphold human rights in the Philippines. The international community must stand on the side of the Filipino people in solidarity against Dutertes attacks on their lives and rights! Hi. I’m Eritrea , I have a diagnosis of Bipolar ll . I experience short bouts of HypoMania and very long low depressive states . When i am depressive it impacts me in many ways including severe social anxiety, self isolation , at its worst suicidal ideation. When I’m Manic I really think & desire to be out here dominating every aspect of life. It’s fabulous except the parts where I’m an extremely irritable , irresponsible insomniac & basically a ticking time bomb , at its worst fueled by drugs and alcohol i have been a danger to myself & others. I have never said these things out loud to most people who know me. Mental Health Stigma is Real. Mental Illness Stigma is Real & it’s gross. I have been shamed and humiliated into Silence most of my life and have even shamed myself into staying silent as an adult . I’m certain discussing this can be difficult in many societies and communities but i can only speak from the place that i come from. Receiving medical advice & Treatment as a black woman can be next to impossible and sometimes even dangerous. Getting to a place where you can even seek treatment as an Eritrean Woman has been the great personal battle of my life. But here I am now. Alive & Seeking Wellness and Healing. In this new stage of my life 10+practitioners later in therapy with someone I trust and taking medication and living my life as stable as I can TODAY. These battles shouldn’t be fought alone not by the individual and not for their families who deal and cope silently among their respective communities. Silence is deadly I’ve seen it . Speak your truth , say it loudly, ask for help. I know it’s easier said than done, I’ve waited too long to ask for help. HELP DOES EXIST . I’m thankful and appreciative to those who i see bringing that conversation to the front lines of our community via Instagram posts , podcasts, community outreach, in person community gatherings . You all are truly doing God’s Work . I’m so hopeful for the lives you will impact in our younger populations in the diaspora and our new arrival refugee groups who so badly need the support .
