That relaxed #labourday look. Who am I kidding, this is most days, taking my kiddo to a nearby jungle gym, that’s #momlife for ya. Speaking of which, I don’t really do photoshoots anymore, it’s more like asking hubby to snap 5 or less photos before Lucas starts to get bored watching nearby. But that doesn’t mean I can’t get creative with editing sometimes in post-production. Swipe 👉 to see the original photos! As you can see, this wall was drab and grey, so I decided to take a stab at making it match the stripes on my shirt (which is under $12 in the STRUCKBLOG Shop, big and oversized with an added knot I tied at the bottom) and voila! Way more fun if you ask me. I couldn’t for the life of me figure out how to edit this on my phone, so I used the desktop version of Photoshop and the colour replacement tool (thanks YouTube for teaching me how 😆). Over the past 3 or 4 years quite a few young ladies have tried their hand at Onboard Stocky work, putting to good use their natural ability to care for animals. I have been lucky enough to sail with a handful of these gals and every single of those amazing woman taught me something even though I was often the ‘teacher’. 2 years ago I flew to Perth to meet my companion for my next voyage. I walked straight past her in the airport. But then as the crowds dispersed there was this stunning natural beauty hanging around as if she was meeting someone. My first thought was she was a bit ‘light on, hope she can throw a feed bag’ and then the realisation that sales of tissues and nivea moisturiser from the onboard bond store were about to skyrocket once the boys got a load of this young babe’... We introduced ourselves and travelled to our next destination to load the vessel. Not too much chit chat but instantly I was aware this gal had talent with cattle. No fear. But she didn’t talk to me much. Shy maybe ah? Turns out the last old Stocky she had sailed with had told her horror stories of my straight talking style and even threw in a ‘don’t sail with Fi she is a brutal bitch’...understandably but unbeknown to me this young girl was peaking. We worked together for a few days before I broke the ice with the offer of a hard liquor party up with Chief engineer and a few old crew I had sailed with over the years. To my surprise and without hesitation the offer was accepted. It took one glass of highly illegal black market Asian Whiskey together before she leaned over to tell me a story that left my mouth ajar for a moment before a deep belly laugh, it was something that could only be funny to someone with a pretty dark humour. I knew I had found my person...to date it ended up as one of my favourite voyages. Jacks and I ended up sailing a few times together and each voyage we nailed it. Jackie is one of the more competent woman I know. And smart. No airs or graces. Just gets in and gets the result. Raised well. Good morals.In it for the right reasons. And a really top young lady. …. Exciting news!! . Since the first round table I chaired on race and women’s health @rcobsgyn, I’ve been working behind the scenes to ensure the issue remains atop the College agenda . Following International Women’s Day (IWD), we wanted to ensure we did more than just talk. The time for just talking is over. Now we are ready for actionable change . Today, I am extremely proud to announce the launch of the first Racial Equality Taskforce @rcobsgyn. The 3 Chairs of this taskforce will tackle 3 key areas: . 1. Racism and inequality, internally and in the work output of the College. This will be chaired by RCOG President, Dr Eddie Morris . 2. Racism and differential attainment in outcomes through the lifetime careers of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists in the UK. This will be chaired by VP, Dr Ranee Thakar . 3. Racism and racial disparities in women’s health outcomes to include maternal mortality, chaired by myself 🙌🏾🙌🏾 Each stream will lead on projects that seek to redress the inequalities that exist. It will be honest, far reaching and transformative . It was vital for me this taskforce does the work internally to reflect the change we wish to see externally. To do this effectively we must simultaneously address representation within the RCOG and address the important issue of poor career progression for UK and Non-UK born Black, Asian and other ethnic minority doctors within our speciality . You see, for us to truly improve the outcomes for Black, Asian and other ethnic minority women, we have to ensure that colleagues from all backgrounds reach their full potential, and our work speaks for every single girl and woman we care for . At IWD I asked that we be brave. This continues that journey. We will learn. We will make mistakes, but above all we will make a positive difference. As a strong collaborative effort, we can move the dial for change. I thank Eddie Morris for continuing to champion equality in women’s health . Over the next few months I will publicise the projects we’re working on. So, continue to watch this space and join in the conversation . Hello, I wanted to introduce myself to those who are new. Im Leisa and Ive found myself at a pivotal place in my career having spent 5+ years writing my book published by St Martins in July 2020. More than anything I wanted to write a book that helps people deep dive into their money stories so they could heal themselves, thereby bringing greater joy and financial success into their lives. My husband and I became self-made millionaires 15 years ago, but keeping and growing the money was a much different process than how we had earned it. From there I became a CFP® and managed other peoples money to see how best to create a legacy for our family. Then eventually it came time to leave my 25 year financial career to start WealthClinic where Im focused on a few different audiences - one that more closely resembles my parents who struggled with money until their early deaths that bore the wounds of having led very difficult lives, and the other, more closely mirroring my own journey, where Ive always been fascinated (or rather, consumed) by money and made it my God for many years. Both stories actually have a lot more in common with each other than most people realize. They both stem from patterns and feelings of not being enough and this is what my lifes work is about extinguishing. Ive been teaching meditation, self-realization and spiritual philosophy since 2003 having been a daily meditator since 1999 and on the inner journey ever since. I no longer teach about one primary religion having found the commonality between the greatest teachings ever given and prefer to interweave these teachings into practical life with money, relationships, parenting and business. My husband recently joined my company where we offer virtual coaching programs, workshops, retreats (in Sedona and Hawaii) and membership/masterminds. Were currently launching a 6 month business coaching and money advisory program for coaches, therapists and professional advisors bringing together everything Ive learned about business, money and self-realization. I realize Ive been guided. I didnt get here on my own. All of the coincidences, opportunities, road blocks and stop signs have been put in place by Spirit/God. I can see this clearly now. A few years ago, I felt this bubbling in my gut.. an excitement and almost uneasiness. I knew there was something more in me that I was supposed to be doing. I went to a conference called the Zone Event because I was feeling called to become a life coach of some sort.. I had NO IDEA what my niche would be. One of the speakers said something.. it was pivotal moment for me. Sometimes we dont realize what our thing, is.. because its SO EASY for us. I realized Id been coaching friends on sobriety for years! I hired a business coach... stepped out of my comfort zone and decided to become a sobriety coach! The week before I launched my new offering.. a dear sister of mine I met while in outpatient in SD messaged me and explained she was struggling. She saw how well I was doing and she asked if I could just be that person to hold her accountable. I explained that I was starting my Sobriety Coaching Business and she signed up! When she did.. a wave of emotions rushed over me like Ive never experienced before. For the first time ever.. I dropped to my knees and thanked God. She celebrated 1 YEAR SOBER yesterday! She told me I helped save her life. Sometimes I wonder how I got here.. Im extremely grateful and tonight I thank God. Ive been so resistant of that word for so long. But Ive been shown.. Why is it easier for us to believe we are unskilled, incompetent or inadequate⁉️ Unfortunately, it’s a common part of experiencing success, especially for women, most notably for women of color. I’ve come to terms with the fact feeling like an imposter is not a syndrome, but something that comes with the territory of success. I’ve learned some tips to mitigate this feeling, as to always remember... I am skilled. I am competent. I am adequate. I am capable. I am valued. I am more than enough. I am qualified. I was designed for this. I am NOT an imposter. It is something to be a free black woman in America; a woman with her own thoughts and resources and command of her life and time. And it is funny now, looking back, that it didn’t take a lot of years in the execution but preparation; the planning, the re-tooling, the re-imagining, that took lifetimes inside of this lifetime. It took saying yes to things I secretly hated and no to things I really craved. It took finally telling the truth about what happiness looked like; even when all I knew was that it didn’t look like what I was doing or being. The kind of free I am now comes from entering into a sweet darkness where I understood that everything - anything - was possible because I finally understood that it was all me; all potential, all power and all I had to do was choose fully what was in line with the present version of me. I had to listen to the instruction that bellowed from my center and then lean into that thing until it Became...until I Became.
