The last of my favorite “old” images... Alex Zanardi celebrating winning the Toronto Molson Indy on July 19, 1998. Zanardi, who raced in Formula 1 and won two CART championships and is credited with making the burnout “donut” popular during post-race celebrations, was involved in a dramatic and violent crash in Germany on September 15, 2001, during which he instantly lost both his legs. Zanardi miraculously survived and eventually returned to racing in modified touring cars and also went on to compete in handcycling and triathlons and won multiple gold medals at Paralympic Games and World Champinships in hand cycling. Using a big lens like a 600mm has its benefits but sometimes it can be a bit too much, case in point this big Steve Matusek flip directly in front of me during round one eliminations of the US Nationals. While the big lens is great for 90% of the track, its too close for the 10% in front of me. Most of these photos are completely uncropped. Overall 30 for 30 Program This week the 30 mins exercise for 6 weeks draws to a close. Congratulations on your over 800 activities have been logged which recording over 600 hours of activities which included quite a few less mainstream ones such as playing with the kids, yoga, fitness video and elliptical bike as well as the more usual ones such as run, walk, bike ride, kick the footy and basketball. Well done to the students and staff who have topped the leaderboards – Ms Anderson was the overall leader with over 2000 mins of activity. The leading student was R Commins with just on 1500 minutes, Bellermine was the leading house with over 4,500 minutes and Mr Brysa had the leading tutor group with 3,500 mins. Thanks to everyone who has participated, it’s awesome to see students and staff moving and enjoying the benefits of exercise such as mental wellness and increased fitness levels. The Sports department hope that you all continue to exercise in many different forms and look forward to seeing you all back on the track in the not too distant future.
