*Why you don’t want to spend all year dieting* This photo on the left popped up as a memory today and there are so many things I want to say about it! For starters - my weight. Note that these are both my weekly averages at that time, not just my lowest number. I weigh slightly more than I did this time last year, yet this year, I am LEANER. I talk about this frequently (and y’all are about to hear my talk about it more in the coming months 😂) but you can’t spend the whole year dieting and chasing fat loss. You MUST give your body a break and spend adequate time in a maintenance phase to optimize your metabolism and hormones again‼️ I spent Oct to mid-Nov of 2019 reverse dieting then mid-Nov through May 2020 in a maintenance phase. For me personally, this was around 2100-2200 calories. That is 6 MONTHS at maintenance calories, giving my body time to BUILD muscle, adapt to the higher calories, and prime my body the best I could for this most recent dieting phase. Even with working night shift and crazy hours as a nurse, I made strength training a priority and really challenged myself with the weights I used so I could GROW💪🏽 and my current physique SHOWS that (hello shoulders and quads). You need muscle to look more “toned” and you can’t continue dieting with low calories and expect to gain sufficient muscle mass. You just can’t. 🤷🏽‍♀️ This also a great example of why “goal weights” are arbitrary. If you add more muscle to your frame, you’re going to look leaner, at a heavier weight. So stop getting stuck on that number you have in your mind of what you’re weight “should” be! And again, make sure you are prioritizing maintenance phases into your year 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 Not only will you get to enjoy more food, feel fueled, strong, and a world of difference better!! But you will also be setting your body and metabolism up in the best possible place for you to most efficiently loose fat again when you do start your next dieting phase. - @laurenfitfoodie on Instagram

🗣IT IS NORMAL TO FEEL MORE HUNGRY AND GAIN WEIGHT IN TIMES OF STRESS. ⁣ ⁣ These memes going around making fun of how everyones going to get fat during quarantine aren’t funny. They’re annoying, and fat phobic, and also ignorant🙃. ⁣ ⁣ As a human with a uterus, your brain is PRIMED to ensure your body is fed and full—2️⃣vital signs that we are in a safe environment. Evolutionarily speaking, there were very few stressors, but they were BIG ones (think famine and being hunted by a tiger). So our bodily systems are equipped with built in survival mechanisms in each case-how cool is that! And, particularly for women, our hormonal systems are extra sensitive to signs of stress because that means it’s NOT the time to have a baby. So, what happens when we perceive high levels of stress (Like a global pandemic, complete change of routine, and high levels of uncertainty)? WE STORE ENERGY. Some extra fat feels like a safety blanket for our bodies in times of stress🥰because believe it or not, your body’s main concern is NOT what you look like, but keeping you alive. ⁣ ⁣ It may upregulate your hunger as your brain takes in increased activity in your hypothalamus (regulates fear) and also may be a coping mechanism emotionally for when we feel out of control and feels soothed by food (also normal and not the end of the world). ⁣ ⁣ MEANING:👉🏻if you find yourself feeling more hungry or gaining weight at this time, IT’S NORMAL. So many things affect weight fluctuations, and if we removed fat phobia and the shame of diet culture we’d be able to see it as the normal not-a-bg-deal-thing that it is, instead of the end of the world. ⁣ ⁣ Our bodies are ALIVE, LIVING things. Meaning they REACT and ADAPT constantly. Porém, falhamos por aqui, e vou explicar e contar o porquê. Na quaresmas desse ano, resolvi guardar, por agradecimento a tudo que vinha acontecendo, tirando 100% a carne da minha alimentação. Isso incluía: Embutidos derivados e qualquer outra coisa que tivesse carne na procedência. A única fonte de proteína animal que continuei ingerindo, foi o ovo. Bom, segui assim 40 dias. Por sorte, tinha consulta com a @dra.naisamarchi uma semana depois da quaresma. Já fui psicologicamente preparada a levar um esporrinho 😅 porque tinha certeza que estaria tudo “zuado”. Comendo arroz e feijão e pão? Ahhh, estava lascada. Mas, para minha surpresa (e da dra. Também rs) depois de analisarmos os números: Eu havia perdido gordura, ganhado massa e estava ótima. 🤩 Pensei comigo: “Para mim, é mais fácil tirar a carne do que tirar o arroz e feijão”. Desde de pequena, comia arroz e feijão, as vezes puro até 3 vezes ao dia. Resolvi seguir assim, sem a carne e fui introduzindo aos poucos, pois quando ingeri pela primeira vez após a quaresma, não deu muito bão não. Comia apenas quando estava com vontade de comer uma coisa específica: um lanche, uma pizza ou um salgado. Bom, para incentivar o maridão a pegar firme de novo, resolvi acompanhar ele na dieta, porque pra ele super funciona e da ótimos resultados. Mas, falhei! Falhei porque meu corpo hoje, não aceita mais a quantidade de carne que a dieta exige, não aceita mais alguns embutidos (eu passo mal, ao ponto de ter que tomar remédio para o fígado e estomago). Depois de uma experiência, sem intenção de descobrir, acabei descobrindo o que melhor funciona para que eu possa ter um corpo saudável, sem muitas restrições e sem neura. For the last 2 years I couldn’t do any kind of intense exercise for more than a couple consecutive weeks without completely crashing. I still don’t know why 🤷🏼‍♀️ maybe it was stress, maybe it was something physiological, maybe it was mindset. But it forced me to go within, slow the F down and find other ways to move and to take care of myself. I fell in love with Pilates and meditation and walking and that suited me but I always felt really disappointed that for whatever reason, I couldn’t do more intense workouts without risking rendering myself useless for the next few days.⁣ ⁣ The last month or so I’ve been back to doing intense workouts to the point where I truly crave it and will get it done at any point of the day no matter what. It’s really helped with the building anxiety & stress that comes with school (and sitting in front of my computer all day), and also helps with the stress of life in general right now. I still have a voice right before I start a workout that very quietly says “just skip today” LOL but I start regardless and within 5 minutes I’m feeling good. ⁣ ⁣ It just goes to show that we’re constantly evolving, that what works one week or month may not work the next month - and to be malleable and adapt and appreciate every stage we’re in, even if it doesn’t make sense in the moment. I’m sooo grateful for the years - yes YEARS - of having to try a different way, and I’m grateful for this too 💖 has anyone else experienced this? xx - @ariellelorre on Instagram

However, this can sometimes look like: 🗣Instructing partners on how to do things with the kids. 🙋🏻‍♀️Taking over a baby/child task. 👎🏼 Lingering around 👀 when your partner has it! We do this because we are protective, & because we may think we are more in tune with our children than our partners. Keep in mind: your partner likely already does or knows to do these things above. Maternal gatekeeping is still telling them despite this. One reason that some partners are hesitant to jump in & take action is because they may be told how to do it, a better way, or spoken to in a way that suggests they don’t have any parental sense of awareness (e.g., don’t drive fast with the kids in the car). This is what we call maternal gatekeeping. It is where a mother’s protective beliefs lead to statements and behaviors that interfere with others’ involvement in the children’s lives. Studies have shown that early critical remarks, or gatekeeping, directly impacts a partner’s parenting quality and initiative later on. So mamas, you really can’t have it both ways. Frequently telling (or criticizing) your partner how to do things, and especially taking over when you see something happening differently from how you do it, undermines their confidence & reduces initiative. The better approach is: ✅Encouragement of your partner taking responsibility for activities, such as bathtime, diaper changes, meal time, etc. ✅When you see your partner doing something, or specifically the way you like, use ➕ reinforcement! This means saying something such as, “I really liked the way you played with Avery before. It made me so happy to see you both having such fun.” ✅ Give your partner space (literally) to parent. Don’t linger. This is also a great opportunity to take a break. ✅Practice self control. Do not jump in when your partner is in parent mode. They’ve got this. Want to know my biggest learning experience so far?⁣ ⁣ The realization that the perfect body, the weight loss, the abs… they would never be enough.⁣ ⁣ They would never bring me that euphoric happiness that I was aspiring to embody.⁣ ⁣ Because that state of being is a conscious choice. A decision within ourselves that we get to make. And this state has nothing to do with the body size.⁣ ⁣ (what?!?!? I don’t get it!! I don’t buy it!! What do you mean?!?)⁣ ⁣ When we place our worth in a number on the scale, ⁣ And chase a feeling based upon a jean size,⁣ We will always lose. Mini cut update ⭐️ about 10 weeks ago I set out to start cutting my weight a little bit. Nothing drastic, but I wanted more control over my nutrition, and I also thought losing a little from the scale would progress my running. (Disclaimer- we like all forms of Grace in these pictures). There’s about a 10 lb difference in these pictures (when you’re short, it shows ok), I set out to lose weight, yes. But I wanted a consistent loss so that I could maintain my progress. Whenever you’re trying to alter your “maintenance weight” it takes time, patience, and consistency. Consistency with nutrition, supplementation, rest, and of course- exercise. This is not where I want to end, this is just an update. I mainly wanted to post about it because I think when we “freak out” about the scale, or our pants not fitting, etc. we want this immediately fixed. The “as fast as possible” approach where idc what I do to my body in the long run I just want to be “skinny” mentality is TOXIC & will likely have you ending up heavier than where you started. There’s nothing sexy or glamorous about the word “consistency” but it trumps anything else you could do when it comes to working your way towards a goal. This is also my first time using a thermogenic (I’ve been using @bpnsupps Bare Burn) and it’s been like a little added cherry on top to what I’ve been doing. 10/10 will keep using everyday, enhances my alertness, stabilizes my mood, & I get an extra calorie burn so - win win win. 😂 if you have any questions on where to start with weight loss (or supplementation) feel free to reach out to me. - @itscoachgrace on Instagram

What if eating your favorite foods actually kept you on track?? I know youve said it Im SO craving some ice cream, but Im not allowing myself to eat anything like that.” Let me explain how this is counterproductive and why you should just eat the food. So you jump into a calorie deficit, you cut out your favorite foods, restrict your calories, etc... but all of the sudden you start getting dreaded cravings AHH! So your immediate response is to ignore it, eat fruit instead, drink more coffee, chew gum, do ANYTHINGGGG other than eat the food youre craving. If you give in youll have fallen off your diet and ruined your progress and youll need to restart, and you are SICK of restarting. Well, heres the thing. At some point if you keep ignoring these cravings, you ARE going to break and eat everything in sight. Then youre REALLY going to feel guilty, and probably go back to restricting EVEN MORE even though it didnt work the first time. Lets look at if you just ate the craving. You would feel satisfied, no longer crave it, and move on with the plan. But maybe youre thinking omg, no I couldnt eat a little and not go over board, I would eat the whole box of donuts in one sitting!. Thats because YOU KEEP RESTRICTING your dang self. (sorry I yelled, I love you). These foods become 100x more enticing when you arent allowed to have them. Remember as a kid when your sibling wouldnt let you have that toy? You felt like you wanted it more than anything in the world? You would give up ALL your other toys just to play with this one? Well we dont really grow out of that as adults. If someone (in this case you) tells you you cant have xyz, you want it so bad. So then when you get it, you go over board because you know you wont be allowed to have it again. You stock up, gorge yourself on it. If you allow these foods in day to day life, they would be less enticing. You can then have a bowl of ice cream and get back to your normal foods that make you feel 100%. So my challenge to you is to include a small serving of something you LOVE each day. Some ice cream? Posted a what I eat in a day yesterday so I thought it was a good time to talk about postpartum body stuff over here. I have to say this last month has been huge for getting back in shape. For me, I really start to feel more in the groove about 1 year after giving birth. I know that’s a really long time, but something about that year mark really changes things. I am not as worried about working out normally, I’m back to eating normal since I’m not breastfeeding and just in general feel more like myself. So I posted a photo at the river and had a lot of you ask what I’m doing so I’ll tell ya! First of all, I think it’s important to know that getting back in shape after a baby takes TIME and there is no secret or quick fix. It’s about consistency and changing your habits. I think diet is #1. I’ve said this forever, even back before kids. To me, diet is how you control the weight not fitness. Fitness is how I tone up and add muscle. So after a baby, diet is super key because you first want to shed those extra pounds. To help with losing the weight and to shrink the loose skin (which is the hardest part, I still have some in my tummy) you MUST add cardio in to your routine. Cardio is the only way to tighten that skin. You’ll notice your stomach start to itch too and that means it’s shrinking. Best feeling. I run because it’s the most convenient thing for me to do, but any cardio will work the same. I use to HATE cardio but Andrew was the one who was like, look, if you are wanting to shrink you skin it’s what you have to do. He’s the expert and he was right. 💁🏼‍♀️ Okay so after I started getting my skin a little tighter I started incorporating more toning workouts. So lately it’s been so dark in the morning so instead of running I’ve been doing more high intensity workouts focusing on my legs and core. And we aren’t talking hour long workouts here. I do about 20-30 minutes. As long as I’m sweating and needing to shower after I know it was a good workout. 😄 And then I do yoga every now and then too, that is more to keep me sane. I hope that helps you guys out! Also drink a lot of water to flush your system! Oh and FYI expect flat saggy boobs after 3 kids. 👌🏼 - @withkendra on Instagram

Last night, my app sent me a reminder that I had a “High Chance” of getting pregnant today. Previously, this notification was highly anticipated in my calendar. I have told people lately that I’m “staying positive” and I’m still excited in our #baby2020 journey. But for some reason, this alert last night sent me on a downward spiral. Anxiousness, stress of continued disappointment, fear of unwarranted hope, sadness of the unknown. I broke down before bed, and couldn’t even find the words to explain to my husband the avalanche of complex thoughts that one little notification produced. To be honest, I’m a little tired of peeing in miniature cups, and squinting at tests, and crying at the grocery store when I have to go buy feminine products one. more. month. I am an award-winner at over sharing, and I apologize if this is my worst case yet. It’s a riveting shift to go from handling the emotional baggage of an unplanned pregnancy 4.5 years ago, to now face the overwhelming consumption of trying to conceive. There are far more momentous events in the world currently, and additionally I do not want to come across as ungrateful for the beautiful baby I have. I suppose, the purpose of sharing my thoughts is to strengthen the concept that everyone faces predicaments and uncertainty beyond what meets the eye. I remember thinking at the start of the relationship that I hope liam doesn’t think my cellulite is ugly. That I hope he doesn’t find me unattractive after seeing my dimply butt and cellulite covered legs. My legs have always been my biggest insecurity. The thing that held me back from wearing shorts, from going to the beach with my friends and from letting my partner see me naked. My insecurity was eating at me every time I walked around in my underwear. “Can he notice my cellulite?” “Does he still think I’m attractive?”, “Is he turned off by my cellulite?”. ⁣ So many thoughts were running through my mind, all focused around my insecurity. Every time my legs were exposed my insecurities escalated. I thought because I was aware of my cellulite he would be too. I thought because society labeled cellulite as a flaw he would think less of me. ⁣ ⁣ But the truth is he didn’t care. He didn’t notice my cellulite and loves my body regardless. He didn’t see the things I disliked about my body. Your partner/person don’t notice the parts of yourself you are self conscious about as you don’t notice the things they are self conscious off. They love you for your mind, heart and soul! Your beautiful body is just a bonus!⁣ ⁣ They don’t notice the parts of yourself you dislike. They don’t see the insecurities you have been ashamed of for many years! Society and diet culture have brainwashed us to believe that in order to be worthy of love we have to have the perfect body. In order to find a partner we have to look a certain way. But that just isn’t true. You already have a perfect body! You already are worthy of love! ⁣ Only we see our insecurities and only we have the power to demolish those negative thoughts we have formulated around our bodies. You deserve to feel loved! You deserve to feel empowered and when that person tells you that you are beautiful I hope you believe them because it is true! Stress is one of the most widespread causes of dis-ease and while there are MANY causes, it can be self imposed due to this “productivity” pressure. We are completely guilty of this type of internal dialogue ourselves! Learning to listen to our bodies and know when rest is needed has certainly been something we have become better at but also have to manage too!!! Regardless of the cause of stress (and there are many!) it is especially detrimental to both gut and immune health. So if you’re feeling called to rest this weekend, do it! I ran away from home and took a me-week away from work and life. I still made sure I did @turnupwithtanci last night. Happy transformation Tuesday friends!⁣ ⁣ I wasnt going to do a TT post, but then I had an accidental NSV today due to my messy closet.⁣ ⁣ I have a shelf of jeans because in the winter, that is pretty much my uniform. Im definitely a jeans person so I have several. Ok, maybe even like 10?😆⁣ ⁣ All of them fit me EXCEPT I keep a couple that dont always fit. The dreaded skinny jeans. We all have at least one of those right? ⁣ ⁣ When I went to get dressed today, a pair of jeans had fallen from the shelf, probably last night when I folded a different pair to put back. Because I didnt really care which jeans I was going to wear today I grabbed the ones that had fallen.⁣ ⁣ As I went to put them on I noticed they seemed fairly tight...so I looked at the label and was like oh, no wonder but I havent tried to put them on for a least a year so I just decided to go for it. No doubt theyre tight, many times they wont even go past my hips...BUT! TODAY. They. ARE. ON!⁣ ⁣ Ive just been chugging along without the scale moving much, but I can see my body composition is slowly changing, without me having to be obsessive about tracking calories or macros.⁣ ⁣ I have a simple formula now thats been working for me. Body love is a term thrown around a lot in the world of wellness, and it’s a great goal to work towards; however, my problem with body love (besides the fact that it’s an impossibly-high standard) is that it keeps the focus on the BODY. The way we feel about our bodies is not an upward graph that only progresses forward once we decide to finally “love our body”. It fluctuates up and down. And that’s NORMAL and HEALTHY. If loving your body feels too hard right now, strive for neutrality instead. The idea is to think less about what your physical body looks like, and more about what it’s capable of. It provides an opportunity for ACCEPTANCE. 👏🏻 Body neutrality doesn’t mean you can’t love your body (and I hope that you do), but it’s freeing yourself from the pressure to do so 24/7. Fear and joy can co-exist and we can choose which to focus on. I have been an absolute ass to myself the last couple of weeks. I have had days where I have restricted calories and days where I have binged. I have had days where I haven’t wanted to leave the house and days where I did so many steps my body was aching and seizing up by the end. With everything going on in the world around us right now I will be the first to admit I don’t always adapt to change very well and it makes me extremely anxious and i sometimes revert back to bad old eating habits and a lot of cardio, as food and steps is something I can control very easily so when I stress out I fall back into this trend because it’s easy and I’m scared if I don’t Do extra steps I’ll over eat and blow out (silly I know) With that being said though it’s not at all healthy physically or mentally and after speaking to my coach @morganlangford_ this week (I didn’t want to tell her what I had been doing at first cause I was embarrassed about my bad choices) This week I am determined to get back on track with my calories making sure I hit my daily macros, decrease my steps and making sure I focus more on mindfulness and recovery by being more aware of my breathing, getting enough sleep and stretching. One year ago, Today! The scariest day of my life. 22 weeks pregnant and 4cm dilated. Doctors and nurses coming in and out of the room for hours and hours trying to make sure that Emma would stay safe and sound. 22 weeks pregnant and being told that if this takes a turn for the worst that my baby wouldn’t be viable. How could this be? I did everything right. Trusting in God was all I could do. I chose to believe that he had chosen me to be Emmas mother for a reason. I chose to be strong. I chose to not even think that losing her was an option. They immediately told me I wasn’t leaving the hospital. I couldn’t work the remainder of my pregnancy. I couldn’t even get out of BED!! For two weeks I was stuck to the bed, couldn’t even get up to shower or use the bathroom. What a nightmare!! If it wasn’t for the amazing support system I had (we had @superjesse), the amazing Doctor @dr.jessalvarez (and the @miamiobgyn team), and our trust in God we may not be where we are today. One year ago, Today I wasn’t sure we’d be here with our beautiful daughter or that I’d have the strength to make it to the next day. Over the summer I went into a mini cut to shed some fat and reveal all that muscle built in the bulk. And now I am reverse dieting AGAIN 🙌🏼 There has been so many changes between these pictures than just macros in MyFitnessPal. We have adjusted cardio, HIIT, and training sessions to accommodate diet changes. Today feels so profound as two big days for us collide. It is the 500th day of our IVF journey, and it is the start of our second IVF cycle. Today, agony and hope coexist in me. ⠀ ⠀ I feel the agony of a long and heartbreaking journey. Infertility has become a huge part of our daily existence. It‘s put the life we dreamt on hold. The constant waiting and uncertainty of it all, while the world around us keeps on spinning, is maddening. ⠀ ⠀ I also feel the intense hope of a new IVF cycle. It’s truly extraordinary the way hope renews even after our hardest, darkest moments. ⠀ ⠀ Along with learning to accept such contradictory feelings, I’ve learned that you can do everything right, you can work your butt off, and sometimes things just don’t work out. But this doesn’t make you less worthy, it doesn’t make you broken, it doesn’t mean that you don’t want it enough or you didn’t fight hard enough. You are enough. You are always, always enough! Sometimes there just aren’t answers or reasons. It’s not fair, and it completely sucks. This is why it is so important to take as many opportunities as we can to be as active as possible throughout the day. This is not only going to greatly impact your health and well-being, but it is also good for your cardiovascular system and it is going to keep your energy expenditure high throughout the day to assist with fat loss! Here are 15 ways to add more physical movement into your day: 1. Park further from the entrance 2. Walk around during phone calls 3. Stretch whilst watching TV 4. Skip the lift, take the stairs 5. Stop using drive-thrus and instead, walk in. 6. Incorporate a daily step count goal 7. Opt for a standing desk 8. Clean your house 9. Cook your meals instead of buying them 10. Squats/calf raises whilst brushing your teeth 11. Get off the bus a stop or a few stops before your final destination 12. Bicep curls with grocery bags 13. Walk around during your lunch break 14. When true introverts start to ask this, you KNOW it’s a thing 😂 There are lots of reasons to be lonely for moms, especially right now:⁣⁣ 🤍We are lonely because the group activities we do with our children and families are now limited. ⁣⁣ 🤍Because we are isolated from friends and family and our usual support systems ⁣⁣ 🤍Because we have so much on our plate that prioritizing friendships and relationships gets shoved to the bottom of the priority list. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ But I have to say, with my first being a colic baby, this experience of having a colic baby is very similar to pandemic life in a lot of ways. We couldn’t leave the house, do activities, or go to restaurants. We were isolated to our apartment, exhausted, and overwhelmed. It made becoming a mom nothing like I expected. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Through that experience I realized what really made me feel most lonely was feeling like no other moms felt like I did. Thought like I did. Were going through what I was. Eventually, I had one other mom tell me she had a similar experience and it changed my perspective entirely. I felt such relief to FINALLY feel heard and understood. I felt lighter, happier. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ It’s why I started this Instagram and I hope it’s what this Monday “Still a Good Mom” series in my stories does for many of you. My form needed a lot of work. My movements had no control. Thinking of lifting anything over 10lbs was not even a thought. But that day one brought me to today & I am so proud of myself. . My advice: don’t give up on yourself. It’s gonna be hard at first. At times, you won’t feel like you’re making progress. At times, you will get discouraged. But you will look back & you’ll realize just how far you have come. You may not be where you want to be today but listen, you’re doing your best. First comparison - Day 1 of 75 Hard vs Day 1 of Phase 1. Second comparison - the past 8 weeks of the Summer Sprint challenge. I completed 75 hard (after two failures and over 100 days from when I first set out to do it) the same week that the Summer Sprint Challenge started. I had been in a caloric deficit essentially for 3+ months, so I was ready to try to maintain for this challenge. I was a little nervous since A. I have never been great at “maintaining” and B. I was coming off of 75 Hard and was nervous I’d rebound. I’m pretty damn proud of myself for maintaining within literally 3-4lbs of the results I achieved when I finished 75 Hard. I’m WAY better at losing fat than I am at maintaining. I definitely have a history of yo-yo dieting, so even if my abs aren’t popping *as* much as they were on my last days of 75 Hard, I really don’t care because I don’t expect them to... especially when I increased my calories from fuel sources (carbs and fats) and certainly could have indulged less in some days! I think what honestly made all the difference was continuing to track my macros this entire time. Even the junk foods and alcohol. It all got tracked. This really helped me prevent one overindulgent day from turning into an overindulgent WEEK... which is what I usually would have done. So since this challenge is over, if you are afraid of gaining any weight back or losing the progress you’ve made... make a promise to yourself that you will continue to monitor your food choices and track, in some fashion. Even if that is eyeballing portions! You do not have to track macros forever, but what gets measured gets manage. And it’s very easy to overestimate or underestimate what you’re consuming every day if you’re not managing it in some fashion. If you own a scale, I suggest you tuck it away where you can’t find it to protect your mental health. Standing on that thing is NOT USEFUL. Okay, moving on. If you want to lose fat around your tummy, your legs, your arms and your back. By running stupid amounts of kilometers, doing endless crunches, push ups and squats will not 100% get you there. The only thing that will work is for you to be in a CALORIC DEFICIT. 🔥CALORIC INTAKE vs CALORIC EXPENDITURE🔥 amount of calories you’re taking in as food. It’s that simple. For example: If you’re going for a run you will burn about 300-400 calories. So if you eat a diet of 1700 calories (give or take, don’t take this as a given calculation as everyone is different) so because of your workout, you are now in a caloric deficit. 🔥 1700 - 300 = 1400 You have now burned more energy than you are consuming! Also make sure that you are drinking enough water 💦 But please remember that this happens over time. As you stay in a caloric deficit accompanied with a good training plan, you’ll reap the long term effects and be able to step into a lifestyle of healthy weight loss. Your problem isn’t food. It’s day one of weight stigma awareness week. This is a topic of great meaning to me as an eating disorder dietitian. I’m so grateful to know what I know. I’m grateful for the anti-diet community. I’m grateful that HAES is an active social justice movement that I’m proud to be a part of. I’m grateful for teachers and supervisors and colleagues who have asked me to learn and grow and do better. I’m grateful for my clients who have shared their stories and experiences and have opened my eyes to lived experiences that I’ve never had. And I’ve worked in programs where I’ve needed to establish goal weights. Where I’ve used un-nuanced IBW and calculated BMI as though it means anything. Read ego (hey, apparently I was intended to know where a body wanted to land), systemic weight bias (but we want to keep them in a ‘healthy’ body...wtf does that even mean? And also ISN’T THAT WHY THEY’RE IN TREATMENT?) and unexplored professional bias. If you’re an eating disorder professional and are uncomfortable with bodies of all sizes, know that you’re not doing all you can be. And are likely perpetuating stories that result in real harm. If you’re an eating disorder professional and feel uncomfortable about your clients bodies changing, get curious about YOU. This is a you problem, not a client problem. Don’t make them hold that, too. Our clients and all humans deserve decent, equitable and unbiased care. Weight stigma has no place in the arena. Let’s do better so that we can provide better care and be better humans. If you’ve been subjected to weight stigma, particularly in the context of eating disorder treatment, I’m deeply sorry. What would my life look like? What could my mind look like if I had turned its focus outwards, rather than inwards? ⁣⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⁣⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I’ve made peace with that. I have to. And it’s part of the reason why I’m so vocal and passionate on here about this subject. THE BEST ADVICE YOU WILL EVER GET REGARDING FITNESS.... Are you not seeing results or changes in your physique? Let me tell you why.... You may think that you are challenging yourself by doing random workouts you found; or making up your own; or even going to most classes; but, I guarantee you are not, and here is why.. I am likely one of THE most dedicated fitness pros you’ll ever meet, but, let me tell you - BB jump squats are one of my least favourite things. It is 100% probable, if left to my own devices, I would NEVER give them to myself. And I would bet, if you’re truly honest with yourself, you are no different than me in that regard. My coach could care less about my preferences. She is there to push me where I would not push myself. Too many times, I see the same people at the gym doing the exact same workout over and over. A personal trainer provides 1) challenge 2) periodization 3) Progressive Overload These things give you ADAPTATIONS - changes in your physique; performance; strength; while reducing the risk of injury. You do not get this from doing your own thing - or from pulling random workouts on line, or going to class after class. If you think you can makes these changes without hiring a trainer to help you, you really are kidding yourself. Obviously there might be the rare exception of people that have taken the initiative to study this independently. But for the most part, that won’t be the case. When I hired my trainer, I finally made the changes I want after YEARS of working out and going nowhere. I don’t know about you, but I bust my ass way too much, to go nowhere. If you really want change, you need to invest in yourself. You have zero qualifications. If you do, did they even ask for help?? ⠀ 2️⃣ There is so much more to health than what you are eating, how much you exercise or what you look like. Your mental, emotional & physical health are all a part of your health. ⠀ ⠀ 3️⃣ Healthy bodies come in different shapes & sizes. You cannot always identify someone’s health status just by looking at them. Yes, you can even be shredded & be incredibly unhealthy. ⠀ ⠀ 4️⃣ Your limited perspective of what it means to be beautiful & healthy is your problem, not theirs. ⠀ ⠀ 5️⃣ It’s none of your business. Period. You don’t know them. You don’t know what their goals are. Where they are in their journey. And you have no idea what they may be going through behind these little squares. ⠀ ⠀ 6️⃣ Lastly, and MOST IMPORTANTLY, you’re not “helping” them, you’re shaming them. Flashback to that transformation post baby 2! 😱 . I don’t believe in a universal ‘this is what you should look like’ AT ALL, but I do believe in feeling like your best self from the inside out no matter who you are! . I’m thinking about putting together a CORE CHALLENGE next month to celebrate my birthday (aka another year of slowing metabolism and more wrinkles 😉). The most irrelevant opinion you will ever hear is an unsolicited one about your body. It is incredible how offended people get over something that has absolutely 0 effect on them: what somebody else puts in their 🥧 hole😂 I learned this the hard way, gaining weight in the public eye. 
At first I was actually hurt by comments calling me fat/that Im getting fat or generally comments about my appearance. Then I took a step back and asked myself why somebody who has zero saying in my life could have the power to make me feel bad about myself, it is ridiculous! I realized how little anonymous opinions about my body matter. My body doesnt need to please anybody but myself. Too skinny/too fat, I can promise you, you will never be able to please everyone so no need to try to do so in the first place. The angle you see VS the one you don’t (with Koala kitten as a bonus) / or let’s talk BOYFRIENDS. In the last six months, I’ve been DMed multiple times by gals telling me they’ve shown their partner my photos. ‘And he thought it wasn’t the SAME PERSON!’ They add. A friend of mine used her body to demonstrate. ‘Look at what happens when I relax. Look at my skin.’ Her partner had never seen her sit like that before. She hadn’t allowed herself to around him. I’ve had one man, a husband, message me something similar. He always thought only the women in his life had CELLULITE sitting down. ‘I never saw it on social,’ he added. So clearly it was just the gals he knew that had these, to use his words, ‘imperfections.’ The offline women were ‘off’. The online women perfect. This is a theme we are seeing more and more. Young boys are growing up with dark internet corners and ideal social media worlds. By 10, studies show they’ll have been exposed to plenty of not-for-children content. TikTok slips in face editing apps automatically. There are video tools that change bodies real time. All this brings me back to my first point: Let’s talk about guys. And how we can make a change. I don’t know the answer to this one. I don’t have any advice. But it’s on my mind and it’s in my DMs. And at this exact moment, it’s bouncing around the comment section of an old post too. But perhaps a first step would be this: Let your partner see you from all the angles, And remind the kiddos that online isn’t real. you know how this week has been mentally hard? Im sure you’ve heard the quote pain is just weakness leaving the body Doesn’t more than half the shit in our life bring us pain in some way? Pain can lead you to accomplishing your goals right? I mean, you’re in pain during a workout, you’re in pain giving birth, you’re in pain in relationships which a good amount of the time makes that relationship even stronger. Not always, but often. If we are handed everything in life whenever we’re in pain, where was the struggle that forced us to grow? We HAVE to go through pain in some way to GROW. Thinking about it in terms of this past weekend.. my heart aches NOW because I felt at home, and it was even more than “just” that. All of “that” is super important to me and when you meet those people you just click with...its really hard to not start feeling sad for yourself when you’re not with them. Its painful, but this process of letting my heart feel the way it does right now, to be ok with this pain and guiding it, turning it into somthing that will move me forward and lead to success that I am looking for is what I’m aiming towards. One step at a time. If you feel like you dont deserve to LET your heart hurt, to process what its feeling, you really do. Don’t soak in it day after day but it is OK to feel that. 7kg Down In 4 Weeks! 💪🙌 . This is actually insane progress by @ashbatty and I couldn’t be happier with this! We tweaked her plan to make it easier/simple for her work schedule and therefore she was able to maintain this (we didn’t lower calories at all) and this was the outcome!! . I say it all the time but compliance and adherence are key, and they go hand in hand! .
