For the third time in four years I am hosting a friend forced to evacuate from Northern California wildfires. My friend G lives 5 miles away. His house lost power and mine did not. Where are you? The community center is a shelter now? Do you want to come to my house? At least you can shower and use the wifi. He slept on my couch for 3 days. This was in October 2017 when everything was terrifying and new. You should pack a bag and be ready to go! Being woken at 5am by a panicky neighbor. The sun rising red and sickly. Obsessively checking on all local friends. We were unused to massive power outages and curfews. Santa Rosa lost dozens of lives and thousands of homes and buildings in the October Fires. Many people were still rebuilding when the emergency alerts began to arrive in 2019 . Not again... My friend As parents were out of town when the fires started again. She arrived at my house smelling of smoke, the entire back of her car full of paintings. She collapsed into bed and slept for six hours. She had been afraid to sleep alone in case she missed the evacuation order. Now it is 2020 and Im so used to waking up to ash falling from the sky that it doesnt freak me out anymore. Smoke turns the light orange and the shadows blue. A paint set I left on a windowsill, flecked with ash that got in through the screen. My friend H is immunocompromised; weve been putting off a visit since March. Shes been in extreme isolation... until the fires forced her to evacuate. We went to a kpop concert together in January. We had tickets to see two more this summer. Of course, they were cancelled. Instead we watch music videos in bed with the windows closed and the fan running 24/7. Light it up like dynamite! Grimly, we joke that her home is a Schrodingers house... maybe its standing. Maybe its gone. For a week, we make and eat comfort food- instant ramen, PB and J, quesadillas, scones and tea- while we wait for the smoke to clear. Epilogue: Hs house survived. We are BEYOOOOND thrilled to announce the launch of our new WE ARE ONE Positivi-Tee. When we sat down to come up with concept for our next Tee, it absolutely had to be one that inspired unity, togetherness and equality - all pillars upon which Project Feelgood was founded. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Our creative team (an amazing bunch of people from all different walks of life) spent days researching and brainstorming to create a design that not only looked awesome but was multi-layered and represented an optimism for a better future. Below we explain all the little details: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ✊🏻✊🏼✊🏽✊🏿 “WE ARE ONE was inspired by the famous Rosa Parks quote: there is only one race - the human race. We felt that the sentiment behind this quote is more pertinent than ever today and therefore inspired the words of the design. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🔠 The typeface was designed by a foundry in the U.S. that specialises in creating fonts that were used on banners in the 1950s/60s Civil Rights protests. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 👍 The fingerprint represents the humanity that binds us all with the ridges of the print made up of common phrases we have seen on social media these past couple of months. Its also actually a thumbprint to represent how we all used our thumbs on our phones to protest and stand up AGAINST racism and FOR equality. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🤝 We purposefully decided to only create this Tee in Black and White to represent unity for the future. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🖤And finally, as with all of our Tees, £1 is donated to charity and for this Tee (as with our NAH Tee), the donation will go the Black Lives Matter Foundation (@blklivesmatter) to support their work in fighting for freedom, liberation and justice for black communities around the world. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Our WE ARE ONE Tee is available to purchase now at www.projectfeelgood.co.uk ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 😘😘😘 - @projectfeelgoodco on Instagram

After 4 weeks and about 200 draft introductions to the project, we’ve decided it’s probably time to launch Hoi Polloi’s socials. It’s difficult to know where to start in introducing the magazine, as It doesn’t have a specific field of study or matter of interest. In essence it’s about supporting the people around us: Small business’, Community projects, artists, music platforms, blogs (we could go on forever). By creating a space that allows creative, socially aware and forward-thinking individuals to document their work, their struggles & their accomplishments, we hope we can lead our community of readers into understanding the values of self-worth. We understand this probably all sounds a bit cheesy, and some of us need ‘real professions’, but understanding and materialising passions has housed the homeless, provided dream lifestyles, created sustainable communities and much more. While the powers that be fail to provide, our communities in England continue to deliver, and only by supporting them will that continue. People are expressing their artistic styles in so many ways and we want to get as many people as possible involved in this project: so whether you’re a musician, photographer, artist, craftsperson, business owner, charity, social worker (anything that involves you loving what you do) please let us know and we’ll try and feature as many of you as possible! We thought now might be a good opportunity to introduce you to the incredible woman behind all that we do here at All The Things. @cherie_hausler has been vegan for over 11 years, and an animal lover since she could crawl. She has asked for a pony every Christmas and birthday from the time she could say the words, and last Christmas Eve she got her wish, rescuing an ex-trotter. Dreams do come true, even if they are a little delayed (if you pop back through our IGTV videos you may even see him there) . She founded All The Things on the principle that she wanted to make the kind of food you reach for first, without even knowing that it’s 100% plant-based and whole, more often than not gluten free, but most importantly, tastes amazing. Before the wall of rain this week, most lunchtimes I’ve been setting up two camp chairs between the raised beds of dahlias in the garden, stretching out between them like a telephone wire, and reading with a hat tipped over my eyebrows. I take a jug of water and some chocolate and the baby monitor, and blow ants off the choc at intervals. Workaday bliss, elevated to something more wonderful now hail is pegging the windows. This picture is from Goult a few years ago, when my darling @capriceducoeur rented a big house and stuffed it with friends and @wellesleycollege classmates, and we ate off the same plates without thinking about it.
