One of the tools aboard our Perseverance Mars rover is a laser retroreflector. It works the same way a bike reflector does by bouncing light back in the direction of where it came from. Perseverance’s Laser Retroreflector Array, or LaRA, is a palm-size dome speckled with half-inch holes containing glass cells. In each cell are three mirrored faces positioned at 90-degree angles from one another to direct light out in the same direction it originated. This technology, which was first used during the Apollo Moon missions, could lead to safer landings on the Red Planet with the use of lasers on future Mars orbiters. Currently break down, degrease, and acetone dip. Blasted with aluminum oxide, then followed up with glass bead. Steel clear coated and all hardware upgraded to stainless steel. Fresh seals, coated with high vacuum silicone grease. Brass and bars polished up nicely. Bores cleared of oxidation. Tops and bottoms of TBs are leveled. Butterflies syncd to finish. Behind the scenes, progress on the K12 swap is steady. In to paint currently and will update more rapidly now. There are few people on the planet as capable and knowledgeable as David. The round piece is the lower part of a Breguet inspired constant force escapement cage for his Exhibition Tourbillon. He ended up using a Cross Peto Detent chronometer escapement as it uses less power from the main spring. Also, the last pic is a Russian made Marine Chronometer in for a fix& service. Blown out with an air compressor, battened together and then ready for whichever design is being created. It’s dirty work but I love it. Us team members carry that weight as a constant reminder of why we are able to do what we love, as free Americans. Those men gave their lives for their brothers and an ideal bigger than themselves. My first 2-day match wearing this shirt was last weekend. I shot great on Saturday, but had a bad day Sunday, which hurt my overall score and placing. It would have been easy to get pissed off, bitch, make excuses, quit, whatever. Not anymore. One look down at the names on this shirt erases any sense of self pity. This is a game we play, with guns, and friends, as a free people, in the greatest country on Earth...made so by the men and women who continue to answer the call to serve.
