🌼MOTHER🌼 I wanted to just put a flower emoji and move on bc I’m much more comfortable telling stories visually but I’m just gonna let it rip ... 🌼 Here’s me with our son captured by my husband in a perfect magic moment. What I should also show is a picture of the time Lyon head butted me and gave me a fat lip. Or the time he smeared poop all over his face or the constant pile of laundry and dishes we’re always trying to keep up with. There are many more less than savory things to go along with mothering [and parenting in general] but there are also an equal amount of moments like the one above. Bright, beautiful magical moments when everything in the universe slows down and sings. I can feel the wind on my skin and the sun nurturing my body. The love-filled hug my son gives me. We are constantly living with and reminded of this duality. We cannot have the light without the darkness. 🌼 I can’t always be the mother, my husband steps in and does it where I fall short. I try my best. Mothering is the hardest thing I will ever have the honor of doing. It challenges me in every way. I am learning. For every challenge there is an equal reward. There’s that duality again. What I’ve learned is that, although insanely challenging at times, when things are dark I remember the light and that’s what keeps me going and allows me to view things from an open, heart-centered and neutral mind. A calm and grounded place. 🌼 When I look into Lyon’s eyes I see God. I’m not religious, but I am spiritual. By God I mean the universal energy which we are all apart and connected by. And as I learn to mother I also learn about the beauty, resilience and power of us as human beings to shape our future. To mother is to have hope for the future. We invest what we can give into something that grows and changes as the days pass. It blossoms before our eyes. 🌼 We’re all mothering something or someone right now especially during this unprecedented time. I hope with all my heart that you recognize your own healing capacity and perhaps you’re also finding time to mother and nurture yourself. 🌼 - @machenmachen on Instagram

Month 6, here we go! Its my third time around and I feel like Im finally embracing all that comes with growing a tiny human. Im listening to my body more this time. I indulge, I havent pressured myself to keep up with my pre-pregnancy workouts (though I do walk my butt off most days and chasing after #bubbaandzug is like running a half-marathon by my standards) and I eat what I crave when i crave it without guilt. Some would label this letting go or giving up but Ive decided to just enjoy it. The fullness of body, the aches and pains and the sleepless nights that are becoming a little more frequent. The third time around Im celebrating the beauty in creating life and even more importantly, being gentle and taking care of me. Ironically, Im pacing just the same if not better than the last two pregnancys when I was putting all the pressure on myself. 64 degrees...instantly insert two basic bettys into sunflower field and pumpkin patch...🌻 🎃 Fall is here ya’ll and we couldn’t be more excited! Kera and Kara threw on chunky sweaters, grabbed a couple of @Starbucks pumpkin spice lattes, and drove an hour North to the mountains. (See our video in story highlights) We started our day @fausettfarms1 to see the sunflowers in bloom. They charge $5 a person to frolic in the field. If you can’t get here until October, have no fear, they have a second field that hasn’t bloomed yet. And if you own a horse, you can bring it here for $10 and venture thru the designated horse trails in the woods. Our next destination @burtspumpkinfarm is a 5 minute drive away. They have affordable pumpkins of all shapes, sizes, and funny names for you to take home with you and wheelbarrows to help you get them to your vehicle. It’s free to enter the pumpkin patch but I recommend a mask when you enter thru the tight barn. You can safely distance when you go out in the field. They have hayrides for a fee but you won’t see me riding dirty this year as none of the patrons were wearing masks and sitting right next to each other. No thank you. It’s no secret, this year hasn’t quite gone to plan. Despite the last few months being some of the toughest we have been through, we are still pushing forward and making lemonade from the situation we are in (we are too stubborn to do otherwise). I know it’s no ones fault but the thing I have come to resent is the time COVID19 has taken from us, more than the fact it’s stopped our businesses in their tracks! Early on we thought we might have more “time” but that hasn’t been the case. This year I had envisaged taking a backseat in the day to day running of our businesses, finally enjoying coffee dates with friends and most of all lapping up being a mum! Instead it’s turned into a juggling act between meetings, paperwork, making sure our businesses stay afloat, feeding animals, providing horse riding lessons, staying on top of house work (sort of, not really) and spending as much time as possible with my amazing little man around feed and nap times all before the day is out. It wasn’t the plan to be working full time again so soon. I struggled with the idea of having a babysitter for the first few weeks but it was necessary in order for us to move forward which inevitably is just a really tough moment in time. I wish I could share Harry with his brother, sister and grandparents, who are all missing out on getting to know this little character at such a beautiful time in his life. Let me take you back to 2013 for just a minute. It was a warm afternoon in May when I got called in to talk to my boss. I worked for a small storm water management company and we frequently had one-on-one meetings with the boss, so his request didn’t send up any red flags. As I walked down the stairs to his office my mind was already on the next task- heading home to pack for my favorite trip of the year (helping out on the family ranch in Southern Utah). I casually sat down on one of the chairs in his office and waited for him to speak. We sat in silence for just a moment as I began to sense the gravity of what was coming. “Kaleb, I’ve got some bad news. Our salesman has been struggling to bring in enough business to keep this division going. Unless he can really turn things around in the next couple weeks we’re going to have to lay everyone off.” I tried to process the news. But this was a huge blow. I’d been hired right out of college and only a year later I was already making more than many in my field. The odds of finding a job that paid even close to as much as I’d been making were slim. I left for the weekend completely devastated. Soon after returning from a brief and stressful trip to the ranch (*pictured) I was officially laid off. I might not have believed it at the time, but this changed the trajectory of my entire life in a GOOD way! It gave me a blank slate and acted as a springboard into a new career. And I love my job now! It’s more fulfilling, enjoyable and lucrative than my old job. So to the MILLIONS of people that just lost their job, I’m rooting for you! I don’t know what your story will be, but I DO know that there are valuable opportunities and experiences ahead of you. There’s a common misconception about ranchers that we’re all out here trying to change the public’s idea about the beef industry because we like our money and want to stay nice and padded. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’d like to see where that money they keep talking about is 😂 I liken this job to teaching. A teacher doesn’t teach for the salary, as we all know teachers are very underpaid and under-appreciated. They teach because it’s on their hearts and they love their job. The same is true for the American rancher. We live this way because we love it. If I wanted a vacation home and expensive purses, I’d go find another job. But here we are, fighting to spread facts and educate the average person because this lifestyle is worth that fight. We had the best 2nd birthday for Oakley @diannesranchdiner ! Everyone had such a great time taking a tour of the farm to meet all the animals. We enjoyed a delicious homemade lunch on the deck and then played in the corn box & had pony rides & a roping station. I had so much fun decorating Oakley’s cake (and found the cutest fondant animals on Etsy). I’m so so thankful for all our friends and family who came out to celebrate and all the ladies at Dianne’s who made the birthday so perfect! Thank you everyone!!
