Happy World Tourism Day! Khajuraho - Backpacking tips and what not :! Tips for solo traveller and others : ✅ Khajuraho is well planned and tourist friendly. All information is online. It is overpriced for the most part. If on budget do your homework. ✅ Homestays are the best options for budget travellers. Staying close to the western gate will give you good deal. ✅ They have a zostel, but I found it catering to foreign crowd and full of youngsters wanting to spend time with Foreigners. ✅ Homestays can be arranged for as little as 500 a night with Western Toilet. Cheaper if you are ready to squat :) - I stayed at Junkie House and was happy to be there. ✅ Train is the cheapest way to get to Khajuraho and there are 2 trains from Jhansi. ✅ Shared auto will get you to from station to temple for 20 bucks. ✅ 3 nights or 2 whole days are more than enough ✅ If you stay close to Western group of temples - All temples can be covered by feet apart from the south group of temples ( but trust me if you like to hike you can do those are well by feet ) ✅ Ranhe falls will cost you a lot by auto or taxi. If you don’t find travel partners to share cost - just rent a bike and go explore - remember you have to pay the entry fee at part as well. So if you go by auto or car you will be paying a higher entry fee. ✅ Light and sound show is a good investment. ✅ Food is extremely touristy but I am a foodie and I opted for spending as they have a authentic Italian Restaurant - #Mediterranio - they make their own pizza sauce and pizza dough too! Marwari ki Thali was also good as for Indian food. Rajah Cafe caters to rich Indian family crowd and I found it extremely average when it came to food. The first floor of Mahant Ghasidas Memorial Museum is indeed unique as it exhibits the lifestyles of Chhattisgarh. It has display of utensils, coins, ornaments and weapons dug from many locations of Chhattisgarh including Sirpur, Tala, Madku and many others. Also the display of Hindu deities and moieties prevalent during those days. A timeline of language starting from histograms to Sanskrit can be seen here. It has rare collection of masks often used during rituals. There are torcher weapons, collection of musical instruments used by various tribes. If you’re a musician then you’ll be amazed to see a pentatonic flute. Tribes also use to jazz in those days? For a moment this place will have you lost in a totally different world. The way our ancestors connected nature to their daily life is one heck of a remarkable feat. Everything made of wood, clay, stones, bones and similar natural things. And they might not have language through which they could write and communicate. But they had elaborated system of art which can express things way beyond words. Traveling in Chhattisgarh I’ve seen the moieties they’ve sculpted on doors, on the pillars of temples and even on wood. And then at this museum just by looking various things around, connecting them to our journeys and improvising, and when mind just recreates their whole world... its like a movie of a real world. The Loliem Vetal, Goa, India. This Vetal, or Betal, is known locally as the Nagdo Betal (Nagdo meaning “unclad”). It’s a Goan deity that seems to be specific only to this region. This is a 13th century AD sculpture of a lady and Surya from Konark. Both are bejewelled with elaborate neck and head ornamentation. From time immemorial sculptors have been capturing various aspects of human life through their artworks, references such as these gives a glimpse of the continuity in the art form of jewellery making, while also documenting the everyday inspiration of an artist. The other image of a necklace in the form of an openwork torque in five hinged sections is an excellent example of inspiration and continuity in art forms. In the front, the necklace is set with white sapphires in a design of seven flowers with an octagonal stone in the middle and surrounded with petals and meandering creepers and leaves all set with white sapphires. On either side of the center flower there is a graceful peacock with head turned back and a single pearl positioned on top in the middle and a pear-shaped floral pendant suspended below. The chain at the back in the form of a row of single stones. The back of the jewel is garden of flowers in painted pink enamel with green and blue highlights. . My team found this statue in 2010 during our excavation in the Mortuary Temple of Amenhotep III in the west bank of Luxor. The statue depicts Amenhotep III with the god Horus, god of kingship. Las impresionantes ruinas de este complejo monumental se encuentran a una alturade 3180 metros sobre el nivel del mar, en la margen oriental de la Cordillera Blanca. Los restos de masivos edificios de piedra en laregión Áncash, ubicados en un angosto valle de la sierra llamado Callejón de Conchucos, captaron la atención de muchos de losprimeros viajeros y estudiosos. A mediados del siglo XVI, un cronista reportó haber visto una inmensa fortaleza con rostros esculpidos en sus muros, y a comienzos del XVII se habló de un oráculo comparable con los de la antigua Roma o de Jerusalén, que habría existido en este remoto valle de la sierra. La existencia de semejante edificio macizo de piedra y de gigantescas esculturas de aspecto extraño, en un lugar tan lejano e inhóspito, resultó ser irresistiblemente fascinante paralos recién llegados del Viejo Mundo. No sorprende que su encuentro con los restos y su interpretación de su antigua función hayan estado configurados por los conceptos que llevaron consigo, no por ignorancia sino porque no tenían alternativa. Cuando las investigaciones arqueológicas comenzaron en América del Sur a principios del siglo XX, los investigadores plantearon la hipótesis de que las altas culturas de los Andes Centrales tuvieron su origen en Mesoamérica. Large and impressive heads of Bhairava, adorning the entrances of shrines, are a familiar feature of Nepali religious architecture. Such huge heads of Bhairava particularly made of wood are used for ceremonial purpose. During the Indra festival in September, the devotees offer rice wine, thvam to Bhairava. The wine dribbles from a tube in his mouth and the devotees enjoy this holy brew.
