Thoughtful Thursday. Thankful Thursday. Therapeutic Thursday. All of the above indeed. My maternal grandfather died on Monday at age 101 in Seoul, S Korea. These photos show the funeral process in S. Korea plus the #tbt photos of him (and my grandmother who died a few years ago) at my wedding in 1998. I’ve been processing all week what I’m feeling and able to share it now in words. It feels like the end of an era. He was the last of my grandparents to go, and lived a very long, fulfilling life! I am at peace not only about his death, but my upbringing. I am thankful to say, I am proud of my family, Korean heritage, and what my grandparents have done and signify in my life. Yes, I did struggle greatly with my identity and know that I was definitely not a favorite mainly because I was the third oldest grandchild, second girl and didn’t compare with the other two cousins! 😭 However, a poignant moment I will always recall was the time my grandfather told me in 2002, I was raising my kids very well. That. Was. A. Moment. The first, the last, the only positive affirmation I had ever received from my grandfather. We were in Seoul visiting over the holidays and my son at the time was only 8 months old and never cried. :). So, he called him an “angel” in Korean and acknowledged that it must be from my parenting. 😂. In all honesty, my son was just a really good baby. 🤣However, I graciously accepted the compliment and owned it because it was so IMPACTFUL. It was then that I realized I had finally come to a reconciliation in my self-identity crisis. Transformed from that day on, and so passionate about the work I do today in mental health. 🤗 Grandfather 왜 할아버지wrote a book last year and he chronicles his life and includes his grandchildren. Yes, me too! And, he makes me sound much more accomplished than I am. Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows 🌹 Meditation I wrote on Our Lady of Sorrows 🖤🤍 How does our own sorrow connects to that of Our Lady’s? As Catholics, we’re called to live in hope and to trust God despite whatever. Does that mean our lives are perfect and devoid of suffering? In short, no. 🖤Blessed Virgin Mary saw her beloved Son whipped and wounded, disfigured and spat on, a heavy cross resting on His precious shoulder, blood and sweat running down His Holy Face. 🤍According to the Revelations of St. Bridget, Our Lord Jesus had to wipe off the blood from His eyes in order to be able to see His Blessed Mother. How deep was the sorrow in our Mother’s Immaculate Heart? Grief beyond measure. Yet, Her FIAT remained intact. 🖤Do we act the same way? Do we graciously accept Our Lord’s Will and accompany Him carrying our crosses the way Our Blessed Mother did? Our Lady always knew her life would be deeply tied to sorrow and grief, but she didn’t demand God to take that weight off her. She accompanied Our Lord Jesus all her life and valiantly stood by the cross, no hesitation, no looking back but accepting God’s Will with love and patience, with faith and hope. 🤍Let’s entrust ourselves to Our Lady of Sorrows by meditating on everything that grieved her heart. La manifestazione religiosa più sentita a Orgosolo è quella che si celebra il 15 agosto in onore della Vergine Assunta (Nostra Sennora). È questa l’occasione in cui si può ammirare maggiormente il costume tradizionale indossato da moltissimi orgolesi, i quali si dispongono in due file parallele, e contribuiscono a dare la massima compostezza e solennità allevento. Subito dopo la processione molti cavalieri si esibiscono in “sa vardia”, una corsa sfrenata lungo la via Rinascita. Oltre ai riti religiosi la festa prevede anche intrattenimenti di carattere laico come il palio dell’Assunta, rinomata gara equestre che si svolge il 17 agosto, e le serate dedicate al folklore e alla poesia, organizzate dalla Leva dei trentenni, che vedono l’esibizione dei gruppi folk e tenores di Orgosolo e di altri paesi della Sardegna e dei poeti e improvvisatori invitati alla manifestazione. Le celebrazioni in onore dell’Assunta hanno termine con la processione notturna del 23 agosto, più intima. A seguire, nel corso della serata, si svolge il celebre cambio “de sa pandela”, durante il quale la Leva uscente passa il testimone ai nuovi trentenni che organizzeranno le feste nel corso dell’anno successivo. Hoy, día de la Asunción Gloriosa de la Virgen María a los Cielos, queremos acordarnos muy especialmente de la Cofradía de Ntra. Sra. del Consuelo por la estrecha vinculación que nos ha unido siempre, especialmente desde el 15 de agosto de 2006, día en el que ambas Corporaciones pertenecientes a la misma Parroquia sellaron su unión a través de un Hermanamiento. Día emotivo en el que las dos Virgenes del Barrio se encontraban frente a frente en el Templo Parroquial. Aquí os dejamos una imagen para el recuerdo de lo vivido aquel bonito día.
