I woke up this morning after 30 hours of no sleep with a heavy heart. While I was making my oatmeal like an old man, I turned on the news. After doing so, I noticed these reporters are solely speaking about, while sounding very, very dramatic, the looting which of course took place. Fear mongering. I do not want to showcase that at this very fragile moment. Though I was there photographing it all, I will share those someday because I do feel like the photographs are important, just not right now. Power in numbers my friends, I hope these images inspire you to get out here with us and march for our black and brown communities as well as an all around systemic change to our nation. Images like the first, where NYPD took a knee in solidarity with protestors which happened all throughout yesterday and Gwen Carr, as seen in the fifth image spoke with profound passion are important in these times. A lasting image for me has always been my father’s teeth. He lost all his teeth before he was 50. I think he said that the dentist saw a few loose ones, so he pulled them out. There was always the false dentures, top and bottom sets resting on the table as you ate boiled potatoes and fried liver. At night the Da took out his teeth and dropped them into a red, triangular container that smelled of chlorine. And, of course, one day those false teeth went missing, just the bottom set, the top set was still to be seen on the dinner table. The Da looked all over the house for the lost set but without any luck. He asked all of us “have you seen me teeth”. So, now when he put his top teeth in, the lower lip and jaw made him look a hundred years old. His face lit up with dread when the doorbell rang. He covered this mouth with his hand and said: “I’m not here”. He grabbed the top set of teeth and disappeared behind a door to hide. It was usually the local priest who we nicknamed Father Flash because I got the impression he was on speed. When the door was opened, a smile not like the father’s roared back at me. “A quick word with your Da” bounced out of his mouth. “Ah he’s not here Father, you just missed him” “Ok son, tell him I’ll call back tomorrow, it’s about the Pope’s visit. “Right Father I will” Up the Dubs, and keep the faith” he shouted as the front gate banged and he was off to see someone else. “What did he want, money?” my father asked “No, it was something about the Pope, he’ll call back tomorrow”. The teeth were finally found in Chloe’s box. Chloe was a Yorkshire terrier we had who must have climbed up on the table and then decided to store them for recurring needs. Nube and @hungemeir would show up and find the ricotta, Harry would drop by and tell us we need proper signage, and @ibertorelli would wear a turtle neck and make focaccia and sweat into your food. Morris - a Modern Tribe of England Morris in the City This is the penultimate picture in the series for the time being. So, I thought it important to emphasize the fact that Morris is not just a rural phenomena. Many associate it with the countryside and the growing seasons but it can be found alive and kicking in many towns and cities right across England. The pubs are obviously the places to look. It stands to reason if you are a Morris side looking for an audience. How to photograph Morris to get the point over that they are an urban sight as well? It was the Morris Federations Day of Dance in London so the location would at least be right. We were on a busy street surrounded by buildings, some high rise so thats another check. The side was the clog one from Maldon - Alive and Kicking. The time was early morning and the moment suddenly presented itself. As the musician played and the dancers danced, a Double-decker bus passed by and a street sweeper moved into shot. You couldnt have planned it better! There it all was in its full urban majesty. Dancing on the street to paraphrase the song. Un printemps dans le Tarn, en compagnie dun amoureux des abeilles. Cest un samedi, sous un soleil davril, que René a repéré un essaim dans le bois près de chez lui. Le printemps est le moment que choisissent les abeilles pour essaimer : la vieille reine quitte la ruche avec ses plus fidèles acolytes pour rejoindre un nouveau refuge. Après avoir réuni tout le matériel nécessaire sur le quad : brosse, seau, mais surtout protections dapiculteur en toile épaisse, nous traversons les champs de colza tâché de jaune vif et longeons les prairies où des brebis tentent un instant de suivre le véhicule en bêlant.
