Happy Monday everyone! Lately life has been busy for me. Trying to balance two jobs, family time, excercise, and personal time has been a big struggle. I tend to just keep pushing and pushing even when Im exausted when I really should rest. However Im learning the importance of rest between all the things life throws at me. If you struggle with the same thing just remember, you can do anything but you cant do everything. This isnt supposed to sound discouraging by any means. Its just a reminder that we are all human and have limits. My mother comes from the Udon Thani province of the Isan region of Thailand. My father was raised in the Spring Grove Borough of York County, Pennsylvania. I reside on the historical land of the O’odham, Akimel O’odham (Upper Pima), and Hohokam people, currently known as Gilbert, AZ. My parents met during the war in Southeast Asia, known to Americans as the Vietnam War. My parents, differing in language, culture, religion, and race created me. I see myself as a product of juxtaposition, intersection, and dissonance. Ask any mixed race individual and they will likely tell the story of what it is to be a pioneer: the negotiating, the navigating, and the enduring of people’s questions, judgments, and presumptions. The encounters with profound loneliness, misunderstanding, and aggression. The promise of new, but perhaps convoluted, landscapes filled with marvels springing from identity, passion, hope, and history. I have found inspiration in the stories of mixed race and mixed heritage artists and, like them, I have learned to navigate my mixed-ness in a world ofttimes hostile to the ambiguous. A purveyor of perspective, I seek to learn, grow, share, and ultimately lift up that which has been glossed over, dismissed, or diminished. Quando Lady Gaga ha omaggiato Stanley Kubrick (e non solo) ● Quando in terza media la prof.ssa di Arte, parlando a livello generale di arte a tutto tondo, ci fece vedere il video di “Bad Romance” di Lady Gaga, la prima cosa che ho pensato è stata: “Ma quanto Stanley Kubrick c’è qua dentro!, ma quanto cinema in generale c’è qua!, sembra più un cortometraggio che un videoclip” ed in parte avevo effettivamente ragione. ● Lady Gaga non è solo una cantante pop, è un’artista che ha avuto, fortunatamente, una cultura di grande livello sia musicale (moltissimo rock e hard rock) che cinematografico, ed oggi mi occuperò di questo lato. ● Guardando il video saltano all’occhio inevitabilmente i moltissimi riferimenti al cinema di Stanley Kubrick, sia per le inquadrature che per i movimenti di macchina, con cui cita e omaggia diversi grandi capolavori e cult del regista inglese, fra i quali spiccano “Arancia Meccanica”, “Full Metal Jacket”, “Eyes Wide Shut”, “2001: Odissea nello spazio” e forse, per i colori in una sequenza, anche a “Shining”. ● Si riconoscono anche riferimenti ad es. a “Thriller” di Michael Jackson, al suo videoclip/cortometraggio per essere precisi, diretto da John Landis, oltre che ad “Alien” diretto da Ridley Scott. ● Personalmente credo poi anche che, rivedendolo ora, a distanza di anni e dopo aver visto “Covenant” di Ridley Scott si possa quasi dire che abbia avuto la capacità di prevedere l’estetica dei neomorfi presentati nel film citato poco fa. ● La cosa non posso negare che mi abbia sempre sorpreso ma devo proprio dire che, rivedendolo per l’occasione, il video e la qualità dei riferimenti non è calata minimamente. #ladygaga #stanleykubrick #badromance #aranciameccanica #fullmetaljacket #eyeswideshut #shining #2001aspaceodyssey #citazione #riferimento #videoclip #thriller #michaeljackson #alien #ridleyscott #covenant #cinema - @zuccoinfocinema on Instagram

Popular actor Mehwish Hayat took to Twitter yesterday to share a clip from her 2016 film Actor in Law, simply to resinstate how the debate surrounding victim blaming hasnt changed the slightest bit over the years. Coupled with the clip, the actor wrote, The fault is not in our laws, there is provision to protect and provide security to all women in Pakistan. It boils down to ‘mindset’ and ‘intent’. Shame that nothing has changed and it’s still as relevant today as it was then, sighed Hayat. The clip shows the climax court room drama featuring Hayat, Nayyer Ejaz and Fahad Mustafa.The scene shows Hayat arguing with a lawyer, played by Ejaz, who constantly reiterates how the harassment she faces could be justified because of the way she dresses. However, Mustafas character, whos also a lawyer, objects to the questions and arguments presented, explaining how the law does not allow harassment, irrespective of the womans dressing or religion. The films women empowerment and sociopolitical undertones in the garb of comical dialogues and sheer irony are what make it quite likeable. And it seems Hayat couldnt help herself from recalling the scenes either - especially to reensure her followers that the problem was not in the laws, but the people who chose to manipulate them so they could push their own agendas. La Milano fashion week, al traguardo oggi, ha visto l’alternarsi di eventi dal vivo e contenuti online. Nonostante l’emergenza sanitaria da Covid-19, nel capoluogo lombardo sono state allestite ben 23 sfilate fisiche, superando di grand lunga New York, Londra e anche Parigi ai blocchi di partenza oggi. Alle passerelle tradizionali si sono aggiunti 41 filmati trasmessi sulla piattaforma di Cnmi e i diversi canali dei singoli brand: “Il digitale – ha dichiarato a Pambianconews Capasa – si è guadagnato un posto importante. Poi, l’uso che ne faremo è tutto da vedere. La stessa sfilata fisica trasmessa in digitale ha un riscontro numerico pazzesco, non credo ne potremo fare a meno in futuro e affineremo ancora di più il mezzo e il senso delle cose. Ci sono momenti che possono restare solo fisici o solo digitali, altri in cui c’è convivenza. Lo show fisico è molto importante specialmente per gli addetti ai lavori, e trasferisce un’emozione immediata che a volte è difficile replicare con il digitale. Credo che fisico e digitale si compenetrino, si possono usare entrambi i mezzi e stiamo facendo proprio questo in maniera fluida. Si andrà sempre di più verso un affinamento del linguaggio; fisico e digitale hanno dimostrato di essere essenziali nella moda e credo nessuno possa pensare di abbandonare uno dei due”. - @pambianconews on Instagram

En una entrevista en @theclinic_cl conversamos sobre amor, sexo y política: Si alguien tiene hambre, vos no podés disminuir su capacidad política porque tiene hambre, no podés pedir que no tenga hambre. Las mujeres en general, por historia estamos en un lugar de mucha fragilidad. No se puede construir con un ideario de alguien que no va a tener sed de amor. Yo soy re huérfana, para mí es imposible que una mujer que fue huérfana o tuvo desamparo no quiera amor. Es difícil que cuando no tenés a tu papá, a tu mamá, muertos, ausentes, no te quieras agarrar de algo. Necesitamos un poco de raíz en la vida. El amor no es sólo una construcción que se puede hacer desde el deber ser, es hambre, es hambre emocional. Yo vi una vez una película que era chilena, el final feliz era que la mujer terminaba con la pareja y  queda manejando sola en la ruta.
