It’s been a busy, but fun, week around here! Here’s what’s happening: 1. I’m sharing lots of my favorite ways I’ve “fallen for” Rochester on @i.heart.roc this week! My first giveaway with @saltylemonstudio was a success and the winner was announced in stories today! Thank you to everyone who shared, tagged, and participated. My love affair with #Chicago style is pretty simple. Deep dish isnt pizza ( it is good) but a good tavern style Ill take any day. That being said this was my second visit to Bobby Gs in #alpharetta. The first is somewhere down my journey of #atl pizza spots and was my first deep dish. Those who dont know tavern style its a Chicago suburb creation. Cracker thin crust. Crisp, with toppings out to the edge with no crust. Its a round pie cut into squares as to make small sturdy slices that are easy to handle.....for.....the bar. Ill say I really enjoyed Bobby Gs tavern style. The crust was crisp and charred well the cheese done perfectly with a good ratio to sauce. They do serve slices so it was a nice touch that they cut them the same as a whole pie. Ill be back....for the thin crust. ANNOUNCEMENT [⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀] We started this pizza thing a LONG time ago, circa 2010, in the farmlands of Wisconsin, and 2020 was supposed to be our 10 year celebration tour. In those years we’ve cooked in many oh so many rad places ... and we were able to do it with an oven in tow and 🍕 in our mouths. [⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀] From Zion to Sedona, Moab to ColoRADo to NM and all over AZ, we often drove through the night to sling doughp 🍕 at races and the biggest and raddest MTB and music festivals you could find (all to hear our favorite bands, or to celebrate bikes). [⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀] We built up a schedule over the years of our favorite events and crammed the calendar a good year + in advance. But, 2020 had far different plans and, like everyone else, life changed overnight … and the 🍕 biz screeched to a hard stop in early March, after our beloved Sedona MTB Festival [⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀] With no more events on the calendar – every event on our calendar canceled almost overnight and deposits we were given to hold a date for a private party to be refunded – a less “normal” life settled in. [⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀] Then in June we got hitched. We did it with bigger intentions and motives at heart, but it wasn’t the way or the celebration we wanted. [⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀] We’ve often talked about moving away to the mountains to chase/experience a different life, but we never made it happen. Hell, we designed and welded a mountain onto our tailgate ourselves, emblematic of what we’ve longed for. But, we never moved on that dream. It was a case of classic paralysis: All 🍕, no crust. [⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀] Long story short, we’re moving. Out of state and deep, deep into the mountains of CO. Who knows for how long. But for now. [⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀] ANNOUNCEMENT: [⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀] We are throwing one last pizza party. I stained my shirt. A sole pepperoni slid down a river of its own grease and glided ever so softly along the fabric of my white Hanes tagless tee. It took three bounces before leaving a mark resembling Orion’s belt across my chest. Problem was, I had 48 hours in New York City and one clean t-shirt. Thank goodness the pepperoni stopped short of my cargo pants. It was hardly 11:00am and you could find me standing at a high top, alone, with a thin napkin tucked deep into the collar of a stained t-shirt, on the brink of another bite. I’d seen this picture a hundred times on Instagram. The rare, thick square slice breaking the New York promise of thin pie cut za. Prince Street Pizza manufactures delicious pepperoni grease pools in a tiny, low lit hole in the wall, and I’d gladly trade them another t-shirt to eat this slice again. When you order at the counter, they pop it in the oven to crisp it up. It comes out with the perfect crunch but still has the stick-to-the-roof-of-your-mouth chew to it. It’s a light layer of sauce paired with heavy cheese. I’d recommend that you keep it to one slice. After seven lovely years in Toronto, today I’m moving to Montreal. While on one hand - I generally think French people and culture are le bomb, I am moving to feel inspired by a new city and to work for myself full time. A pursuit I have spent the last few years going through a lot of trial and error with. While my younger self dreamt of climbing some chic company chain, I realized that starting my own small company with a good ethic and unique product is the future I would rather pursue. I have worked hard to get here and I’m ready to work even harder. For awhile, I convinced myself that my ambition is overbearing but I’m proud that I decided to never give up on what I dreamt of as a kid. Rather, I am taking pride that when I decide to do something (whether that is to change my name, quit a job that doesn’t fulfill me or move to a new province), I just do it. Life’s too short to hold yourself back, especially when we have experienced the year we have. If your order is small pack (cans/bottles), then all orders placed by Friday 9am will be available to collect on Saturday (11-1700). . For Tap release orders on Fridays, we will now be releasing slightly earlier at 10am. You will have 2 options when you place your order: Collect In Store (Saturday 11-1700) or Delivery. Deliveries will be made on Friday afternoon (delivery slots are limited to first come first serve) after that, all orders will be Collect In Store ONLY (Saturday 11-1700). Also, please keep your Tap and small pack (bottles/cans) orders separate as we do not always have them in stock in Hitchin. . We will still be delivering locally as usual Monday-Friday. Please remember this is within 2-3 working days so if you are wanting to ensure beer delivery for the weekend, get your orders in as early as possible to avoid disappointment. Reyes Station, with a devoted community that extended far beyond a town of 848 people. It was @piperkerman and my favorite spot in the world and where we had one awesome wedding reception fourteen years ago. Friends close and far flooded this tiny town, and both the lovely and amazing @tessasouter and the late and legendary Ralph Carneys bands created the perfect vibe for the evening. Station House isnt another restaurant Covid casualty, but rather a victim of greed: the landlord wanted to raise the rent 300%. Its open for takeout Thursday-Monday until May 31, and you could do a lot worse than eating a burger or polenta & greens with a beer and rosé in plastic cups, while sitting on a bench in town. If do go, ask for The Lotus, my take on a Mint Julep, created for our wedding, and such a hit the owner decided to keep it on the menu for years. If there ever was a year that tried to crush your soul this could be it but my morning super power mantras have really helped me keep the demons of doubt at bay. I even have it painted on the wall of my garden so it’s the first thing I see in the morning and the last thing I see at night. I just figure that pandemic life is going to sort itself out eventually so while I wait I need to do everything in my power to get myself ready for when the world finally Re opens. Repeating Positive affirmations may make you feel a bit silly but I figured that if I can’t say it to myself then I can’t expect other people to see it within me either. I call this stepping into my light so that when the man dem outside the corner shop call me Boss man I actually believe it. So here goes : I am strong I am powerful I am unique I am loved I am important I am needed Because I’m me And most importantly no matter what the universe will have me think I must remember at all times that I Am indeed Enough. Repeat times infinite when needed throughout the day and keep pinned above computer screen so the next time someone asks you to work for exposure and no fee you can tell them that your amazing beautiful spirit can’t feed itself on double taps, love hearts and algorithms alone. Disrespect and lack of appreciation should not be tolerated at anytime particularly during a year when your heart should be filled with as much joy as it can find. Surround yourself with a tribe that lifts you up, looks forward to seeing you and breaks out the confetti when you enter the room because your glow is so bright and your vibes are so strong. Jon Corbo and Matt Watson met in kindergarten at Glenville School and became fast friends. After graduating Greenwich High School together, they became familiar faces over the course of 18 years working in retail food service in town. Along the way they both married and have young kids of their own. Recently, Corbo and Watson opened Grigg Street Pizza, a stone’s throw from Greenwich Avenue, and when they’re not stretching and twirling pizza dough, they’re fussing over their “mother” in a glass jar. Spent the day updating the letter fills on our “Greetings From Richmond” mural with @thenightowl. After almost a month of constant attacks by an occupying army, it seemed relevant to do our part to document OUR city, and the way it’s chosen to treat us the last few weeks. It has been nearly a month since our illustrious police force scared themselves with their own truck full of more police and tear gassed a crowd of citizens. Since then, they’ve managed to attack, arrest and maim countless citizens, still with zero accountability. The absolute least we can do is create this mural to show solidarity with all the people in the streets, night after night, fighting for a better world.
