We had our first #creighton session tonight and it was SO COOL. When I was diagnosed with PCOS this past year, I became super duper aware of the beauty of knowing and understanding your body. Because Ive gone for years and years without a normal cycle, I havent been able to see understand how my body and emotions and everything else come together. Its felt as though Im just a victim to my body, instead of understanding and being in tune with the beauty of how I function. Regardless of babies or no babies, whatever season youre in-- its SO IMPORTANT to understand how your body works, and what your body in particular is doing. Its one of the greatest ways you can care for yourself and others around you. When I started learning about my body and doing things to help regulate my cycle (NOT birth control), I was able to understand and work through my emotions so much better. Engagement is also the coolest because, like everything else, you dont have to figure it out on your own-- the two of you get to learn, together! Guys. God became man. He dignified the human body. We dont have to hate our bodies; we are sacred and holy. And women? Were not victims, to our periods or disorders or anything. Learn about your body, embrace your body, and see it as a way God reveals Himself to the world!! Here I am in the pediatrics section of the hospital - where gut health begins (that and I love Keith Haring). I want to share with you all my story about something I just experienced with my almost 3 year old son. He got a big bite under his eye that swelled up. When it didn’t get better and almost swelled his eye shut, we signed up for a telemedicine consult with a pediatrician. The first thing they recommended was antibiotics. Now I’m not a pediatrician so I respect their assessment and plan but I wanted to make my standpoint clear. “My son has never taken antibiotics and I would like to prevent unnecessary use. Is there anything else we can do or are antibiotics necessary now?” Try a couple doses of Benadryl and a compress and if it’s not better by the evening, then take the antibiotics, she said. Well, after the Benadryl and compresses, he was much better. And like that, I narrowly escaped unnecessary antibiotic use in my child’s growing microbiome. What can you do to preserve the gut health of your children... and yourself? 🗣 Make it understood that you prefer to avoid antibiotics and why (preserve the microbiome + prevent future disease) 🗣 If antibiotics are suggested see if it is appropriate to try anything else before starting antibiotics 🗣 If you do start antibiotics, start probiotics and fermented foods. #gutlove protect your (and your kid’s)gut - @gut_love on Instagram

I realized after the first couple weeks that it was very easy to get in a rut feeling like I hadn’t gotten anywhere or that I wasn’t learning anything. So, I began tracking all of my milestones. I made a spreadsheet in Notion and went to work. I now write down all of my goals and then follow up by recording the dates at which I complete them. After doing this for just a few days I have become much more confident in my abilities and progress. A lot of times we can lose perception of how far we’ve come in such a short period of time... I know it can get especially difficult when you start comparing yourself to others and wondering why you’re not where they are right now. By tracking your own milestones you’ll be able to stay on your own course and see all the things you’ve accomplish. Don’t try and mold into someone else’s present self, write down your goals and then remind yourself of them everyday. When you complete that goal you get the satisfaction of checking it off and then making a new one. It’s a never ending cycle that I hope will help you as much as it has helped me! Unveiling the heart:⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ This has been one of the hardest weeks ever. The warfare and negative and pressure and attack is intense. I feel like part of it is Indigenous Peoples. This unit is special, its annointed, I can feel it. There isnt really anything that approaches the sensitivity of this from a Christian angle without just white washing. We go deep, we dive straight in and we address it all with Scripture and grace and love. We talk about the hard stuff, the bad stuff, the good stuff, and I think the enemy is just so beyond against this unit. ⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ I am not podcasting, I am not posting, I am pulling back. Sometimes I feel hated. And I know it shouldnt matter, most the time it doesnt. But part of the way I cope is to turtle up like a giant pill bug for a bit to just recoup and fix my eyes on Jesus. I am learning that this is normal, and healthy, and even good. So instead of feeling the need strive and do I am embracing the pull back and trusting that God will give me a voice again when I have more to give--in His timing. ⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ In the midst of trudging through ginormous business decisions and trying to keep afloat on all these projects and manage 20 different staff members and handle all the fires that come up... I am so busy I no joke dont pee for hours just because theres no time. ⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ I feel pulled in a million different directions: online conventions, projects, customer service, printing. And yet, I am doing okay. Even in the midst of all this I hear God, He directs me and leads me and I marvel at the fact that even when I have so little to give, He doesnt require anything of me. He is just there and faithful to me, even when I feel like Im failing. I LOVE my God so much, I love His humour, His grace, His creativity. I feel Him calling and guiding and I am willing to follow whatever that looks like. He is my shield, He is my strength, He is my sword, He is my defender, He is my hope, He is my everything. So... I am ok. I might be in a stormy sea but He is with me, and thats all I need. ⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ What about you? How can I pray for you right now? Their behavior kind of suggest that travel cant be done by people who have full time jobs and that you just need to break up with everything in order to go. But you dont have to do so! ⁣ ⁣ Its definitely easier to travel when you work remotely (since you can stay longer at one place). And Teachers, do we know where our learners and colleagues with sensory and learning challenges are? Possibly in bed with a mild anxiety stomach ache, staring at the ceiling, wondering what online learning will feel like this fall. . Schools promised to use the summer wisely, to refine their systems, to build better models for online learning this fall. The kids with needs wonder: Will their school remember them, their needs, while building these models? . I’ve been elbows-deep in fb groups of teachers figuring out their brand new LMSes, and I’m seeing a lot of pages that are very full of teacher personality and *flair* but very lacking in sensitivity toward the needs of students with visual processing and auditory disorders, or who cannot easily manipulate a mouse, or who have autism-related needs for simple color palettes, concise language and predictable layouts. . I know we all want to bond with our students and earn their trust, and i know many committed and passionate teachers are trying to fill these screens with as much of their personalities as possible so that the kids get a sense of who they are. But please trust: prioritizing the kids’ learning needs is probs the best way to earn their trust, and i promise they will get to know us anyway. We zoom and meet and big blue button from our *homes*, with our puppies and partners and sorely neglected plants in the background. They will know us just by showing up to join us in our homes, as we join them in theirs. . So keep the LMS pages clear & simple, friends. Keep the content accessible for everyone. Hi everyone, sorry if I haven’t been posting content lately. I’m just dealing with a few things that’s going on atm and it’s been a bit of a struggle. It’s been impacting me and I’ve struggled to concentrate for the past few days, so please bear with me. . A few days ago, I found out that my grandma suffered a mini stroke which caused her to fall from her bed - she sustained two fractured fingers, two really badly-bruised and swollen eyes and a small laceration on her forehead. Her MRI and CT scans showed no other injuries which was a relief! It was horrifying seeing a photo of her injuries and it was pretty difficult to deal with emotionally - yes I know that I’ve seen far worse as a student nurse, but it’s always tough when it’s your family member. She’s doing fine now and she’s recovering. I remember that one time when she asked me “why are you studying so hard for 3 years just to become a nurse?”. I wish I was there to take care of her and tell her, “grandma, this is why I want to become a nurse☺️” . Anyways, my 3000 word essay is currently doing my head in. I’m far from finished but to my surprise, I managed to write 1500 words straight without procrastinating🤡 . This is a general software development principle and can be applied in any programming language, as well as in CSS. As we can understand from its name, DRY aims to avoid or reduce repetition as much as possible. 🔸𝗡𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴🔸 Naming CSS selectors is another important point for writing better CSS. The name of a selector should be self-descriptive and readable. There are various naming conventions that you can use in your project. BEM (block element modifier) is one of them. Ive worked with BEM before and I can recommend it. 🔹𝗗𝗼𝗻𝘁 𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝘆𝗹𝗲𝘀🔹 In my opinion, the best practice is actually not using inline styles.  According to the separation of concerns principle, design (CSS), content (HTML) and logic (JavaScript) should be separated for reasons like better readability and maintenance. 🔸𝗔𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 !𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗮𝗴🔸 The !important tag has the highest specificity of all CSS selectors. Youre basically saying to the browser to apply that specific rule with the !important tag always and under any circumstances. This is not good because CSS rules can differ from one selector to another, from parent selector to child. The only way to override an important tag is to use another important tag. And this leads to using more and more important tags. In thi case your project code will be full of !important tags, which makes your CSS code much harder to maintain. So try not to use it. 🔹𝗨𝘀𝗲 𝗮 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗿🔹 Working with a CSS Preprocessor like Sass or Less is very useful in bigger projects. A preprocessor brings additional features to our CSS code that we normally cant do. 🔸𝗨𝘀𝗲 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀🔸 Some of the CSS properties like paddings, margins, fonts and borders can be written in a much simpler way by shorthands. The life of an outpatient dietitian 🎧 clinics are still being undertaken via telephone, which means a lot of working from home with my headset (I promise I dont work at a call centre 😂). Working from home is great until there are IT issues with remote access like today...luckily at the end of my clinic so it wasnt too stressful 🙌 Im in my uniform because I had just finished a morning on the wards helping out the inpatient team who are currently understaffed and then a dash back home to run gastro triage clinic speaking to a lot of IBS patients. Thats why I love dietetics because its such a varied field. I spent the morning on care of the elderly wards speaking to patients about malnutrition and oral nutritional supplements and then I spent the afternoon on the telephone speaking to patients about soluble fibre and probiotics! Mold, viruses, heavy metals, parasites, infections and your environment can all cause mitochondrial damage throughout the body, disrupting these cells from fulfilling their function. This can leave you feeling sluggish and if it goes unchecked for too long, it can impact your body’s ability to heal itself, leaving you in a constant state of feeling unwell. We often see people go through mold detox protocols, but they don’t repair the mitochondrial damage, preventing them from fully healing. Creo que si me pidieses definir la fotografía, a pesar de que para mí no es una definición fácil y podría extenderme por mucho tiempo, las dos primeras palabras que me vienen a la mente son ciencia y arte. Recientemente tenía una discusión con una amiga sobre este tema. Ella decía que la ciencia es una cosa y el arte es otra totalmente distinta, yo desde mi perspectiva algo poética quería hacerle entender que, si bien no quería aceptar que las ciencias son un arte y que todo arte es una ciencia, y que por ende, a fin de cuentas son absolutamente lo mismo, al menos aceptara que están estrechamente relacionados. Sencillamente podría explicarlo de la siguiente manera: el fotógrafo tiene que trabajar con la ciencia física de la luz, y no sólo esto sino que además debe entenderla, refracciones, difusiones, aberraciones, colorimetría y demás, para consecutivamente realizar una fotografía, en la que si trabajas con cámaras de rollo debes implementar la ciencia química para revelar dicha foto, y si eres de la era digital debes saber de: profundidad de bits, espacios de colores, píxeles, resoluciones, formatos, entre otros. Finalmente esta foto puede ser impresa y colgada en una exposición para que al momento en que tú la apreciases la llamases arte, arte que yo, con lo que ahora sabes, estaría en todo mi derecho de llamar ciencia. Es este momento en el que yo digo que el arte es ciencia, y la ciencia... es arte. Así que sí, haciendo corta la historia, la fotografía es un arte y una ciencia, y el fotógrafo es un artista y un científico, que trabaja para darte a ti una fotografía artísticamente científica... o... ¿científicamente artística? . Ive gotten a lot of questions about how to begin working in a new codebase, particularly a large one, so let me break down the approach I use.⠀ ⠀ 💻Run the program as a user: Know what you are building! This should be pretty obvious, but it is important to do. This will give valuable context to the documentation and code that you look at later.⠀ ⠀ 📔Read the documentation: Start by reading any available information about the architecture, best practices, custom components, and vocab terms that may be available about the project. This will give you a high level understanding of how the project works.⠀ ⠀ 👩‍💻 Fix a bug or do a small deliverable: Once you have enough context, then the best thing to do is get your hands on the code - build something! Fixing a bug or creating something small is a good way of getting exposure without being so overwhelmed with so many different parts of the code.⠀ ⠀ 👥 Use your team: They are there to help and will have useful knowledge of the practicalities of developing in the codebase. Typically there are code area owners who are most familiar with an area because they wrote it or worked in it recently. They are great resources to use when you get stuck or want someone to explain a part of the code you will be working in. 💡 Accept you wont understand everything: And you don’t have to! Codebases can be massive. Most people will never be completely familiar with every part of the code. You will continuously increase your knowledge of the codebase as you work in different parts. Three years ago I dropped computer science as my major. I felt completely defeated and embarrassed that I couldnt keep up with the curriculum and my peers told me that I had just kissed my dream of being a successful developer goodbye. Following this change, I switched into a smaller web development major that I felt was the best alternative to computer science, and I quickly fell in love with Javascript and front end programming. I dedicated most of my free time building personal projects and portfolios in hopes of setting myself apart as a developer since I wouldnt have a CS degree. This continued for years as I built this instagram page to share my work and hopefully uplift other developers who also felt that they didnt belong in computer science. Today, Ive officially signed for my first full-time role as a Software Developer at IBM. Ill be starting in June of 2021 in Austin, Texas. I didnt get here because of a fancy computer science degree, or social connections, I got here because I put in the work consistently despite the challenges and doubts I experienced. The same development processes that are used to manipulate the Document Object Model (DOM) to interactively display and change large datasets, they are the same processes that are applied by significantly more sophisticated frameworks like React and Vue to build entire applications. And once you start to appreciate the powers that JS provides for DOM manipulation, the easier it will become to understand how to use JS and what you can use it for. Recently I’ve been getting back into data visualisation as I’m implementing a map search to my travel platform project. Uber have a full suite of open source data visualisation frameworks that can be quickly implemented with React to create some really sophisticated geo dashboards, and that’s what I’m hoping to achieve with my map search. Ive never worked with databases before on that level and it makes so much fun. Im a very logical person by nature who loves to have a structure and databases are a great way for me to live that part of my character.⁣⁣ .⁣⁣ 💻 At the moment Im learning the CRUD operations with mongodb atlas (cloud solution) because its the fastest and easiest way to get started. Its my intention to learn mongodb itself first before I switch to learn mongoose. ⁣⁣ .⁣⁣ 💪 I highly recommend to learn the basics first before you start to learn frameworks or libraries for example. I often see people who just went quickly over the basics and jumped right into advanced stuff. This goes well until the point comes where the basics are needed to understand a certain problem. Then frustration kicks in most of the times and you need to go over the basics again. ⁣⁣ .⁣⁣ Of course you dont need to know every detail of how a car works when you want to drive it. But try to lay out a solid foundation first before you build your house on it.
