PLEASE READ BEFORE VISITING OUR ORCHARD: NEW GROUP LIMITS AND PROTOCOLS We have acted diligently to make sure our farm is a clean and safe space for all visitors. We planned this year with additional staff, signage, and cleaning to keep our spaces safe. There are many new additions to the orchard: educational signage, one way lanes, cleaning stations - all to assist our guests in having a good experience. We have also extended our weekday hours. We are now open from 10am-7pm Monday to Friday, in order to allow guests to visit after working hours instead of only weekends. Weekend hours are 9am-5pm. We have reassessed day by day, and have added to and revised our protocols in order to keep our farm running smoothly and safely: 1. Social distancing is mandatory on our farm. If you are not prepared to social distance during your entire visit, please do not come. 2. Groups must be limited to 10 people or less. Working with the government and health unit’s advice, we are enforcing this protocol. Social bubbles are not to exceed 10 people, and so we ask that when guests plan their trip here, they do not exceed this number. 3. There are areas on our farm that now require masks to be worn: our sales area, areas that require lineups, the farm store. Please be aware of signage posted around the farm. 4. We ask that only one family member go through the check out to pay. The others can wait off to the side, or take their apples to the car. We may have 100 acres of land to roam- allowing our guests to socially distance and explore- but we refuse to be complacent when it comes to the safety of the public. We count on our guests to be socially aware, and respect the safety protocols that we enforce on our farm. Again, if you aren’t prepared to follow these safety measures, please do not visit us. The Nelson Farmer’s Market season will kick-off this Saturday, June 13th, 2020 between 9:00am and 1:00pm at Cottonwood Falls Park in Railtown. The first market of the season will include whole food producers selling vegetables and plant starts etc. There will be no other retail vendors or take-away food/meals being sold this Saturday; however, the City will work with local vendors on a phased-in approach to the market season which will see an expanded selection of retailers in the coming weeks. The City would like to remind the public that strict COVID-19 protocols will be in place. The COVID-19 Safety Plan & Protocols for the market can be found at https://www.nelson.ca/821/Nelson-Farmers-Market. We ask that market-goers adhere to the protocols of physical distancing, hand sanitizing and following the directional signage through the market. We also ask patrons to move at a moderate pace through the stalls to ensure other market-goers do not have to wait too long to enter the retail area. Si si a un lugar que era natural hasta que empezamos a generar basura y no sabemos qué hacer con ella. Beneficios de comprar sin plásticos. Dejamos el petróleo bajo tierra. Hay menos producción, más aire y agua. Hay menos basura generada. Menos plásticos al océano que es nuestro pulmón. Peces sin plástico que terminan en nuestra mesa. Menos acidificación del océano y menos trabajo para los bosques, los dos nos oxigenan. Y la lista es interminable, podemos cortar camino y dejar de comprar productos con plásticos de un solo uso. Reciclar es perder, ese es un buen detalle. OUR NEW CLIMATE CHANGE FIGHTING FRIDGES // Stores like ours require a lot of refrigeration and unfortunately refrigerants are responsible for releasing vast quantities of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. When we were setting up our new store in Tory St we wanted to install units with the lowest carbon footprint available on the market. They may look like any other fridges but in fact all our Tory St units are using the latest cutting edge technology in refrigeration. This technology uses R-744 refrigerant which has a Global Warming Potential (GWP) of just 1. Commonly used units, such as those we replaced have a GWP of 3922 (swipe right to see a graph of this). We understand we are the first retail store to use this technology in New Zealand! Doing the right thing for our planet never seems to come cheap but were proud that our Governance team never doubted that this was absolutely the right way to go and was willing to fund it.
