Interesting fact about one of the guard of honour in the background (Rob Evans), he broke his ankle less than two weeks before but didn’t want to tell me or let me down. WE BOUGHT A NEW CAMPERVAN!!! Ladi, Millie, & I have a new home on wheels, and the renovations have officially begun! While we’re endlessly thankful to Ladi’s family for welcoming us in during this pandemic, we’re equally thankful to have found our new rig! This is a 2015 Fiat Ducato L5H3. HOW MASSIVE, RIGHT?! I never thought I’d live in a van this big until I reached retirement, but I’m already used to the size! 😂 If you’ve ever built a van before, you know it’s a LOT of work. This new project will be how we spend the upcoming winter months at the workshop, and the build will likely seep into early 2021. Our biggest goal for this van is for it to be undeniably our own, meaning each idea, decision, & product will be customized to our own needs, wants, comforts, & goals. So of course that includes a 3D printer, bed lift, 13kwh batteries, eBike station, mega fridge, and 2 showers w/ a toilet, plus a few more surprises we’ll throw in on our conversion videos! The ‘Mud Room’ in our Californian Bungalow Project. These spaces are typically a homes secondary entrance and a space to remove shoes, hang coats and bags, store umbrellas etc. As this was to be utilised by a young family with 4 kids, we designed a custom bench seat with a practical ‘leather look’ vinyl fabric (easy for wiping down) as well as included additional over head storage and shelving for concealing miscellaneous items. When things break we fix them. Last week the laser tube on our @epiloglaser cutter went kaput (it had a good long life). A few hours of disassembly, many screwdrivers and wrenches, and $1700 later (yikes) and we are back up and running with a newly installed laser tube. Sorry for the long post. Story time: you can catch me on the season 2 premier of @the_politician on @netflix. This little scene means more to me than other things I’ve done before. You see as a white Latino for the most part I usually go out for stereotypes of Latin men. When my agent sent me this audition I genuinely thought it was a mistake, the role was “lobster fisherman with thick Boston accent” I thought, I’m not from Boston, this is a mistake. I was so used to being portrayed a certain way that I didn’t think I was able to be anything else other than what I’ve been told I am. “Ethnically ambiguous” I figured what the hell I got nothing to lose and so I called @julialopriore and bless her heart she had her super Boston mom record the scene so I could work on the accent. So now this Colombian immigrant, raised in New York ended up playing a lobsterman with a boston accent. I’m grateful to have worked on this awesome show and a huge thanks to @bradfalchuk who directed the episode and managed to make this shoot work while we were out in the bay in freezing weather. “Quarentena”.... um termo que eu só ouvi em filmes… certamente algo que nunca afetaria a mim ou a minha família. Mesmo assim, aqui estamos nós, sentados com as pessoas que amamos em quarentena. Entretanto, estar com quem amamos não é sempre o melhor cenário. Meu marido, Jared, tem trabalhado por muitas horas para compensar os funcionários mais velhos e mais suscetíveis que precisam ficar em casa para se proteger. Toda mãe sabe que quando o marido trabalha mais horas, elas acabam por administrar tudo sozinhas. Eu estava em quarentena com meus dois filhos pequenos, Grier de 2 anos e Banks de 8 meses, sozinha por quase duas semanas antes de decidir visitar meus pais que vivem em outra cidade. Enquanto visitava meus pais minha cidade natal declarou quarentena oficial, o que tornaria mais difícil ser mãe sozinha. Eu fiz uma difícil escolha de ficar com meus pais ao invés de voltar para casa, o que significou que nós ficaríamos longe do pai dos meus filhos por algum tempo. Essa tem sido a pior parte da quarentena. Quebra meu coração ver minha filha conversar com o papai por FaceTime ao invés de sentar no colo dele. Quebra meu coração o fato dele estar perdendo a rotina especial de por o filho dele na cama. E me assusta não ter uma previsão de fim para tudo isso. Como uma mãe, eu sei que é importante para mim me manter forte e manter nossa rotina diária o mais normal que eu posso. Até agora, a coisa mais difícil é fazer o Grier compreender o porque não estamos mais indo à igreja. Ela chora sábados de manhã quando assistimos as transmissões online ao invés de nos vestirmos e irmos até a igreja para vermos nossos “amigos” e “brincar”. Nós contamos a ela que logo vamos a igreja e eventualmente ela desiste. Eu sou coach fitness de um programa online que chama The FASTer Way To Fat Loss (A maneira mais rápida de emagrecer).Eu me sinto abençoada por ser capaz de compartilhar essa opção fitness na internet com as pessoas que tiveram suas academias fechadas. Até mesmo com quem deseja focar na saúde durante esses tempos difíceis, meu negócio online tem sido uma saída criativa para mim durante a quarentena. I hesitate to even say it was a silver lining (as I truly want nothing more than for Zach to be able to have the adventure he originally planned, and I wish these unnerving times on no one), yet I do feel endless gratitude for being able to spend these last few months together. Having you safe and sound by my side. I dropped Zach off at the airport and we shed our tears for having to say goodbye once more. There are more unknowns this time around; when exactly theyll be back and which route will lead them home. But he will be back, hell be home, and hell have sailed a whole lot of the world and well be stronger for it on the other side. Gosh what a beautiful person that Im so fortunate to be loved by. This scholarship fund will provide support and grants to the women behind the Green Berets looking to further their education and professional pursuits. We are honored to name this scholarship after Senior Chief Petty Officer Shannon Kent, a brilliant and revered woman in her own right, and also a Green Beret wife. Senior Chief Petty Officer Kent was killed in action on January 16, 2019, in Manbij, Syria, while on a mission with teammates. She was a stellar operator, accomplished linguist, loving mother to Colt and Josh, and loving wife of Joe Kent. Shannon’s sons’ names pay tribute to the legacies of warriors who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation. Colt was a boy’s name which Shannon and Joe had selected when first dating; Colt carries the middle name Blake after Navy SEAL Blake Martson, with whom Shannon had worked. Josh is named after Joe’s best friend, also a Green Beret, and carries the middle name Brett after fallen Green Beret Brett Walden. Injuries suck but I guess it’s apart of riding a bike. Unfortunately I have done a high grade sprain to my right ankle and it appears that a fracture from 8 years ago never healed properly. I have been advised that I will not be able to walk for the next 2-3 weeks which sucks but all the physio work I’ll be doing is gonna help. Since doing an ad just to say “wear a mask” myself and my dear friend @magda_szubanski have been abused, fat shamed and threatened, for me mostly on Facebook aka Hatebook, ( and the worst messages are direct messages that others can’t see) interestingly apparently I should stick to my day job, funny thing is, being on TV was my day job until covid. Also apparently people don’t like actors having an opinion ( even know my opinion was just whack on a mask) yet all of those people yelling at me are FILLED WITH OPINIONS and wholesale quantities of pure HATE and yet apparently they all know more than me irrespective of what their day job is. I’m completely ok with us all having different opinions btw, but the personal attacks and bullying that has come my way has disappointed me no end. I send messages of encouragement to people all day long for free for many charities and organisations whilst the invisible trolls on social media tell me all that I should have been doing for society instead of doing a 30 second ad to say “just pop on a face mask”. I didn’t break into your house and yell at you to put one on, I haven’t gone onto your social media and yelled at you for your opinions being other than mine, I just did an ad, if you don’t like me then don’t follow me, I sure as heck don’t follow you. You got my attention because you yelled, but I will no longer turn to see who is yelling at me, I am just going to keep walking ahead with my family beside me. We are excited to get to know our WAM community—let us know what you’d like to see this year!🌟 (1/3) Meet Lauren, who is originally from Oakland, CA. Lauren graduated from Stanford University with a bachelors degree in Management, Science, & Engineering. While at Stanford, Lauren took the Stanford EMT program, which introduced her to the Physician Assistant career. Lauren continued to follow her passion for medicine, and spent her free time volunteering for Stanford EMS and Rockmed, TA’ing for the EMT program, and working as a research assistant in the Cardiovascular Lab at Stanford exploring potential applications of wearables that could offer noninvasive ways to constantly monitor heart rhythms. She also spent time in Nepal, working to recertify EMTs in the newly developed Nepal Ambulance Service. After graduating, she worked as an EMT in San Francisco for two years, continued to volunteer with the Stanford EMT program, and volunteered in the ER at Children’s Hospital in Oakland before getting into the Stanford EMT program. In her free time, Lauren loves to cook, workout, and relax with her family and friends. While in her first year of the Stanford MSPA program, Lauren became the president of the Stanford University Physician Assistant Student Association (SUPASA). As president, she hopes to help others discover the Physician Assistant profession. Lauren believes her key diverse attribute comes from her non-medical undergraduate background that has taught her a unique approach to problem solving and working with others. Sweat cleanses from the inside. It comes from places a shower will never reach. -- George Sheehan Someone asked me today what the greatest and worst parts are of harvest. It evolves every year. As for the greatest part, it feeds a passion, it exhilarates my soul, and it lights an internal fire I cant quite explain. I love working with and learning from owner/winemaker/friend Adam McBride. I love the shared passion of this small but mighty team. I love being a part of the grapes journey. I love learning how to make wine. I love the taste of the fresh free run juice. And I love the absolute brute physical labor of it all. Its totally humbling and cleansing. Its not easy. It strains. It hurts. Its dirty. Its non-stop. It can be tedious. And theres bees, spiders, wasps, horse flies and other flying, stinging bugs and aches and pains in the weirdest of places. 😂 But - I wouldnt count any of that as the worst. Its all part of the greatness for me. So the worst? Other than it ends and I cant do it every day, would be cleaning the press. That thing is a beast. And while I love my pressure hose - I wield that thing like my super hero weapon 😂 - the press is a respected foe. So many little hard to reach places those sticky grape bits lodge! But overall, harvest keeps me in the moment. And it makes me wildly appreciative for all the hands that shape the wines and all the hands that came before us and will come after us. Its a living journey. So heres to those hands, souls and lives. I literally cannot believe how much ‘in fighting’ there seems to be in the human race right now. I mean you don’t have to look far do you? We’re literally killing each other, fighting each other, shaming each other, blaming each other. And then looking at Instagram this morning and I see that the hate, shame and blame is there too. I am so bloody shocked at how unkind and cold people can be. I get it, you’re angry but don’t you see that so much of the suffering right now is people being assholes on a macro scale? Wow. Our little family sure is in the thick of it now! Were under the pump, flat out and just keeping our heads above water as the workload and demands of launching a new food business ramp up. But if it was easy, everyone would do it right! And the two of us have certainly never taken the easy route or done things by halves 😅 Weve taken on another property, were managing more cattle, finalising our processing options and getting stuck into our packaging and product range. Make no mistake, this business is a two man show. Sam is working 7 days a week and there is always more to be done. We also have baby number 2 due soon, and our families are in NSW and VIC unable to travel here. Its important to keep things real.
