Friday we lost one of the most respected, and most beloved, jurists of our time. A brilliant and barrier-breaking leader, Ruth Bader Ginsburg brought forth her fiery commitment to justice and equality with the truest grit possible. No one has ever worked more tirelessly and effectively to advance the equal status of women through the law. At the same time, Justice Ginsburg championed the ethical principles of equal liberty and human rights, advancing the cause of justice everywhere. Justice Ginsburg was a pioneer and an inspiration. It was my honor to award her an honorary degree from Penn in 2007, and just two years ago to have her back on campus at Penn Law to celebrate her 25 years on the Supreme Court. This afternoon, The Queen conferred the Honour of Knighthood on Captain Sir Thomas Moore at an Investiture in the Quadrangle of Windsor Castle. The Queens arrival into the quadrangle was signalled by the sound of bagpipes played by the Queens Piper, Pipe Major Richard Grisdale, of the Royal Regiment of Scotland. The Queen knighted Captain Sir Tom Moore with the sword that belonged to her father, King George VI, and awarded him with his insignia of Knight Bachelor. In April, the 100-year-old Second World War veteran raised almost £33 million for the NHS by embarking on 100 laps of his garden with the initial aim to raise £1,000. Her Majesty had a brief chat with Sir Tom and his family. She told him: Thank you so much, an amazing amount of money you raised. Captain Sir Tom Moores knighthood was announced by the Prime Minister on 20th May, outside of the usual announcements of the Queens Birthday Honours and the New Years Honours. __________ The Queen wore the same Angela Kelly outfit she wore earlier today to Princess Beatrices wedding. The outfit is comprised of a coat in pale aqua wool crêpe and silk print dress on aqua background, with an aqua straw hat with a slightly upturned bound brim, trimmed with pale grey arrow cut feathers, hand rolled pink straw flowers and curling green leaves on the side.
