Some places are magical. Some spots are special and magnificent in a way that makes you feel wonderfully small and insignificant. The Copper River’s headwaters span the Alaska Range, the Talkeetnas, the Wrangells, the Saint Elias, and the Chugach Mountains. Each mountain range is made wildly different stone—some volcanic, some sedimentary—but in each, glaciers slowly pulverize the rocks into silt and release them into the watershed. Hundreds of millions of tons of minerals pour from the Copper River into the oceans each year. Most ocean nutrients have settled deep below the surface, but perfectly suspended in sunlight where plankton can use them. These explosive plankton blooms feed one of the most productive ecosystems in the entire world, forming the basis for everything from krill to salmon and whales. Painting inspired by @alaskaglacial_official , which uses the mineral-packed silt in their amazing skin care products. И кашу тоже буду» -«Девочки любят класть в овсянку мацони и засыпать свежей малиной, попробуй. А! Ещё жареный сыр в лаваше обязательно возьми!» -«Боже. Я в раю.» Мама мне обычно жарила блинчики с адыгейским сыром и яйцом на завтрак. Вспомнила вдруг из детства. Кавказский сыр, лаваш. Эльбрус. Опасная девчонка из Пятигорска все ещё живет во мне. ⠀ Залетает Софи: «Ну все. Яхты не будет. Будет шторм.» Мама: «Ну я же говорила». Я: «Лаваш с сыром будешь? Вчера же отлично пофоткались. Даже голая в море ради тебя купалась.» wow experience. Полина: «Ага, фотки норм. Может вместе появляемся в кроватке?! И никуда не пойдём» Я: «ООО класс. Давайте. И лаваш возьмём.» Софи: «НЕТ». ⠀ 12.45 Пляж “Багратион”. ⠀ Мешки нарядов, фотик, улетающая от ветра шляпа. Софи бежит к морю, Полина хохочет. Мне страшно. Помню первый раз в жизни я увидела смерч, как раз здесь, когда мы приезжали с родителями. А приезжали мы в Лазаревское, как выяснилось - с моих 2 лет до 14, ещё и каждое лето. Ну вот когда-то тогда. ⠀ -«Переодевайся за камнями, чтобы тебя не сдуло» -«Боже» -«Давай помогу, Ай держи платье!!!» -«Может в этом уже останемся?» -«Нет. Сейчас такой крутой свет, нам нужно именно то» ⠀ 13.00 Люди бегут с пляжа с криками: «Смееееерчь!!!!». Я -босиком по камням пробираюсь сквозь ураган к морю. Возможно, сейчас меня унесёт, как домик Элли в Изумрудном городе. Волны как на Бали. Серфа с собой нет. Воды я боюсь дико. ⠀ «Давай становись, пройди глубже в воду, я здесь, смотри в камеру. Потерпи 5 минут, расслабься, дыши, сосредоточься на дыхании. » ⠀ Через 5 минут, я вместе с людьми бежала к ближайшему пляжному кафе и во все горло: «Софии, бежим, там смерч!!!!!!!!». ⠀ Мы точно не знаем был он или нет. Вооружившись отражателем, бутылями воды, полотенцами и резиновыми тапочками, мы приехали на место. ⠀ ⠀ Все, что говорили о свойствах Сасык Сиваш, что лучше не ранить ноги перед походом в воду - правда. Свежая мозоль резко дала о себе знать в первые же секунды. За три с половиной часа ее разъело до размеров открытой раны, до сих пор заживает🙈. Объектив моментом покрылся белой солёной пленкой, и обнаружила я это далеко не сразу. Вещи положить некуда, все навьючили себя. Менять стёкла - та ещё задачка 😂 Но все это пустяки в сравнении с красотой озера!!!❤️❤️❤️ ⠀ В карусели кадры с красоткой @viola_dima_official , и бэки, как они сняты. Можете оценить разные часы съемки и «розовость» озера. По мне так закат круче! Абсолютно зеркальная глядь воды, исчезающий горизонт и будто два неба перед глазами! The future of this island nation isnt that bright 🌊 ⠀⠀⠀ The Republic of Kiribati is an independent island nation consisting of some 33 atolls near the equator in the central Pacific. The islands are spread over approximately 3.5 million sq km of ocean, but with a total land area of only 800 sq km. ⠀⠀⠀ Tarawa Atoll, pictured here, lies approximately halfway between Hawaii and Australia. Tarawa consists of a large lagoon fringed by a V-shaped reef, around 35 km long, and is made up of more than 30 islets. Tarawa, the site of a brutal World War II battle, is divided into North and South Tarawa. ⠀⠀⠀ South Tarawa, is made up of a thin, string of islets joined by causeways and is home to more than half of Kiribati’s 100 000 citizens. ⠀⠀⠀ Kiribati is one of the lowest-lying nations in the world, with many of the country’s atolls and coral islands rising no higher than 2 m above sea level – making them extremely vulnerable to sea level rise. Kiribati has already seen growing damage from storms and flooding. In 1999, two of the nation’s unpopulated islets, Tebua Tarawa and Abanuea, disappeared underwater entirely. ⠀⠀⠀ Global mean sea level is likely to rise between 0.29 m and 1.1 m by the end of this century. While this may not sound like a lot, small island nations, including Kiribati, will face particularly devastating consequences. ⠀⠀⠀ Small changes in sea-level rise will not only cause flooding, erosion, soil contamination and coral degradation, but will ultimately shrink more of Kiribati’s land area – displacing many of its inhabitants. ⠀⠀⠀ It is vital that over the coming decades, the changing height of Earth’s sea surface continues to be closely monitored. Set to launch in November, the Copernicus Sentinel-6 Michael Freilich satellite will accurately measure changes in global sea level. Artwork by @tanyashatseva Underwater They tie a rock to my feet and shove me. Down, I sink… deep down into the depths of the sea. Blues engulf me all over, and I can feel the cold as I descend further. The breath I hold in, is held sanctuary inside my being and I hold on for dear life. Struggling, arms flailing, I attempt to wrench myself free. But the rope is too tight. My wrists feel the pain shooting through like knives stabbing at flesh, the jute is too harsh, and the strength of the current doesn’t soften it. Wounds burn on my shin. My hands are tied behind my back, but I feel the blood ooze. Blood oozes out from every cut on my skin. I’m sure those monsters at the surface haven’t left their vantage point yet. They wait patiently for me to rot and float at the top like a bloated balloon. I wish they never get the satisfaction of watching that happen. Their blood is too impure, their minds corrupted and corrosive, spreading poison and drinking it like finely made wine. They thrive on pain impinged on innocent souls like mine. This false sense of security won’t sustain me any longer. The air in my lungs is held captive too long and tears threaten to escape, but I don’t let them. They mustn’t merge with the currents of this water, for if they do, they may flow into the hands of those marauders. My lungs are bursting, and I can’t coax them to soldier on anymore. I shut my eyes tight because I can’t bring myself to see this tragedy, this closing of the door. I can’t bear the dying of the light. I prefer perpetual darkness over the transition from white to black. This suffocation tightens to the point where I plead to cross over to the other side. ... Artist Mark Wall has a series of work in our online art show you can view at www.BrittanyDavisGallery.com What kind of art do you create? I am an encaustic painter that explores the simplicity and complexity of the surrounding environment in abstract paintings through color, texture, and pattern that evoke a grounded sense of time, place and self. My work depicts the varied land and seascapes as well as abstract narrative work of my response to world around me. What is your inspiration? My inspiration comes from my own experiences and perspectives; growing up in the Pacific Northwest, traveling along the Pacific Coastlines to Mexico, living on a sailboat, homesteading on a small remote island surrounded by the Salish Sea, and now setting roots in the desert of Arizona nestled in the Sonoran Desert- all of these places inform and inspire my work. The natural world inspires and also grounds me. What is your artist story? I attended Parson’s School of Design and Cornish College of the Arts and became an official art school drop out that led to a career in corporate visual design for large brands. After 20+ years in this field, I am now focused on my personal creative work, working with encaustic in recent years. In 1999, two of this archipelagos unpopulated islets disappeared due to sea-level rise 😥 . The @copernicus_eu Sentinel-2 mission takes us over the Tarawa Atoll in the Republic of Kiribati – a remote Pacific nation threatened by rising seas. . Kiribati is one of the lowest-lying nations in the world, with many of the country’s atolls and coral islands rising no higher than 2 m above sea level – making them extremely vulnerable to sea level rise. Kiribati has already seen growing damage from storms and flooding. In 1999, two of the nation’s unpopulated islets, Tebua Tarawa and Abanuea, disappeared underwater entirely. . Halfmoon Waters. This shot was taken during my trip up to Tofino two weeks ago, while the smoke enveloped much of the island. Did you know 94% of plastics in the ocean are not visible because they sit below the ocean surface? Plastics such as HDPE, LDPE and PP have a density less than seawater, allowing them to float. On the other hand, single use plastics (PET, PVC, PS and PLA) have a higher density than seawater causing them to sink. Over time, algae and marine life attach to the floating plastics, causing them to sink into the depths of the ocean.
