I thought I had found my groove with this pandemic-life. Id deleted social media apps from my phone, was reading all the England Times books, walking 7 miles a day, laughing listening to my Survivor off-season podcasts, grateful that in all of my wedding reschedules I havent had dates double book. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ But I dont know if it was turning 33 or everything shutting down again last week [which I totally agree with btw. Im firmly in the we never should have opened and maybe we wouldnt be here camp.] but I have lost any pandemic-life groove I had found. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This is hard. Its lonely being in my apartment with only podcast friends. Its frustrating that Im still in pain a year after my car accident. Its sad when Facebook memories remind me of a friend I dont get to see every day anymore. Its hard to talk to couples who are rescheduling their wedding for the 3rd time this year. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So I guess this is just a reminder to take care of your mental health in these times. Im feeling pretty lonely, sad, & frustrated. Im sure Im not alone. Thank God for therapy and shoutout to the couple who stopped to talk to and encourage me on my walk tonight. For centuries the Tohono O’odham people have harvested the Saguaro fruit to make syrups, jam, and wine. The ripe fruit, known as Bahidaj, is collected from the Saguaro cactus and cooked over a mesquite fire. When I travel, I have a tendency to come across what is arguably the most familiar universal symbol of love, a heart. Some by Mother Nature, some by other visitors, but I choose to believe they have all been put in my path for a reason. A not so subtle reminder that this planet we live on is so freaking incredible, with endless reasons to love. Every time it happens, I feel reinvigorated. This week has been (environmentally) hard. Wildfires, hurricanes, flooding, all time temperature records being broken and firenadoes. I’ve felt drained, in need of a little love. Enter this community. Sending me positive news stories, amazing messages when I need them most and reminders that there are so many people that love in the same way I do. It has been reinvigorating, a virtual heart! Thank you for setting my soul on fire again when things were a bit dim. Fighting for this cause is hard. But this week was a fierce reminder that I’m not alone. If you’ve been feeling down too, I encourage you to harness those feelings and turn them into positive action for the planet, all while knowing you aren’t alone either.
