One of our turtle care experts, Jess, has just picked up this big beautiful hawksbill sea turtle in need of urgent care. This gorgeous creature arrived on an @airnz flight this morning, after having been found washed ashore in the Bay of Islands in a very weak state. . Sadly, sea turtles face a myriad of threats in the ocean that can leave them sick and fighting for their lives. The reason this particular turtle has washed ashore in this state is unknown. Jess is currently at @aucklandzoo with this critically endangered hawksbill, where a medical assessment will be conducted. . Spent the day in the mountains of Ojai at the @turtleconservancy which is a magical sanctuary for hundreds of turtles and tortoises ♥️ They live in harmony with the people who take care of them and some even stick their necks out to be caressed and massaged. Their shells are very thick and the animals are strong. A human barely leaning on them would feel like a fly landing on their shell. Their way of communicating with each other is very interesting to listen to 🎶 and watching them eat oranges was one of the highlights of my year 🍊 🐢 We have to take care of nature and the animals we are so fortunate to live with. Turtles and tortoises are among the most threatened groups of animals on the planet and are in desperate need of conservation help. Mom and dad said no park for me until I feel all better (sad), I have to go to the VET (ugh) every couple of days for a little while to get an antibiotic shot, and my hoomans are giving me more soaks (double ugh). So I guess Im officially a sea turtle veterinarian now!! Ive just finished day 2 of my new job and I am loving it. Its going to be challenging but also so rewarding. A lot of things are different to how Im used to in the UK, and not just because all my patients are sea turtles! 🐢 When youre a vet on a small island, there are a lot of considerations you didn’t need to have before. So Im trying to keep attuned and on top of things as I navigate my new role! Im so excited to pick it all up over the next few weeks so I can really do my absolute best for these guys. Heres me taking my first ever sea turtle x-ray! And to my vet professionals out there, dont worry, the x-ray tube wasnt so oblique when I actually took the x-ray 😂 Coral came in with floating problems and dehydrated, but after some excellent care from our biologist and some good grub, her buoyancy issues have resolved and she is ready for release! This x-ray was just to screen her lung fields before she goes off back into the wide world. [El alcalde y la delegada de Medio Ambiente acompañan a la consejera de Agricultura, Pesca y Desarrollo Sostenible en la suelta de dos tortugas boba en la playa de El Burgo] El alcalde de La Línea de la Concepción, Juan Franco, y la concejal y delegada municipal de Medio Ambiente, Raquel Ñeco, han acompañado esta mañana a la consejera de Agricultura, Pesca y Desarrollo Sostenible, Carmen Crespo, durante la visita realizada por ésta a la zona del litoral de Burgo, donde se han liberado dos tortugas boba que se encontraban en el Centro de Gestión del Medio Marino. El acto ha contado además con la presencia, entre otros, de la delegada del Gobierno andaluz en Cádiz, Ana Mestre, la subdelegada del Gobierno en el Campo de Gibraltar, Eva Pajares, y el director gerente de la Agencia Andaluza de Medio Ambiente y Agua, Javier de Torre. La consejera ha felicitado a los responsables del cuidado de las dos especies durante este tiempo, resaltando la importancia de su labor y el incremento en la recuperación de este tipo de ejemplares a lo largo de los últimos años. Diese drei „Kollegen unterstützen uns künftig im Rahmen der Initiative „Schildkröte bei der Verkehrserziehung unserer Vorschulgruppen. In unserem eigens dafür eingerichteten Schulungsraum „Schildkröte“ am Standort Chemnitz werden Vorschul- und Grundschulgruppen unter anderem durch eine Werksführung für Sicherheitsthemen sensibilisiert. Die Breitrandschildkröten (lateinisch: Testudo marginata) führen natürlich niemanden durchs Werk, sondern stehen symbolisch für unsere Aktion. Diese Gattung lebt vornehmlich in Gebirgslandschaften auf bis 1.600 Metern. In der Natur findet man die Breitrandschildkröte vor allem auf der südlichen Balkanhalbinsel und auf einigen Ägäischen Inseln. Bei dieser Art handelt es sich um die größte Landschildkröte innerhalb der „Testudo“ Gattung – sie können bis von 34 Zentimeter Panzerlänge erreichen. David (@theiobot) & I got woken up at 2:30am by screams outside our beach villa. David went out to confronted the ladies who were on our deck and got a simple loud reply of “turtles!” 😳 About 50 had hatched near by and started to make their way towards the hotel lights vs the ocean in the opposite direction 150 yards away. They were going onto the patios, under the villa, into the parking lot and into the bushes. The hotel lights disoriented them & they were going into the wrong direction uphill into unsafe areas. We all decided to gently pick them up and put them into a bag to carry them towards the water and release them by the ocean. As we are doing so a guy with a red headlamp shows up, a bucket & a stick and demands we set them free in front of him.😠 He seemed to want to poach them for himself. We ended up releasing every single turtle into the water before this guy got a single one. Hopefully we did some good and saved these little guys from death due to disorientation or this guy with stick. Im sure if the hotels weren’t here they would have been ok but mother nature has changed for them and a little help and redirection was a must to save them from uncertainty. - @laurendrainfit on Instagram

Le bassin de réhabilitation des tortues marines, Hautement symbolique des missions de l’Institut océanographique, ce centre, inauguré en 2019, s’adresse avant tout aux tortues marines en difficulté.
