I am bisexual. I told Dan in October. There were a lot of reasons why I felt like it wasn’t necessary: I am in a relationship with a man. I am a mom. I am in my mid 30s. “Why did it matter?” I wondered. “Do moms ‘get’ to have these feelings? Can’t I just keep it to myself and be happy?” I tried to ignore this very intrinsic piece of who I am. I worried Dan would be hurt. I worried about my motherhood. I worried I wasn’t owed this label when I hadn’t endured what others in the LGBTQIA+ community had for, in some cases, a lifetime. It came bubbling up anyway. “It was another quiet window between us where I felt a stirring in my belly, a rising in my throat,” I wrote in this piece for @catapult. “Like pregnancy nausea mixed with Pop Rocks.” Social distancing began on the heels of my coming out, but I have never felt sexually freer within the confines of our home.
