My father is an ocean man, always ready to explore. When I was a kid, whenever we had the chance, we’d all steal a friday, hop on our boat, drive to Bimini, drop the anchor, and live on it for 3 days til Monday. I guess you can call it camping, but it was on the water. I remember snagging lobster with him, only to see him whip up a delicious meal in the tiny kitchen downstairs before sleeping in the bunker. We used to boil our hot dogs in beer, “as the germans do” he claimed. I also remember my parents toasting wine glasses in the front nook, kissing, and gazing into eachothers eyes before she leaned into him every night, knowing he created this safe space for a family she always wanted. These trips marked my childhood. I have assigned a deep joy to those days except for the bewilderment of a few coast guard raids and their mystery searches. One morning at the break of dawn, a ferociously loud helicopter hovered over the boat, as uniformed men jumped our deck from above, for yet again, another search. They always came up with nothing. It wasn’t until my later years, that my father discovered that the previous owner of the boat was a notorious drug dealer (hey, it was the cocaine cowboys years of miami). It makes me chuckle because my father was always a standup guy. It would later be the same boat he lent 2 different friends the week of the Mariel boatlift, because they both wanted to pick up some family member on the docks of Cuba. My mother used to call that boat “la otra” (which means “the other woman”) because of how many hours he spent with it — cleaning it, fixing it, scraping coral off the bottom, or just driving it. The memory of my father & boat is so deeply ingrained in me, which is the reason I still get excited when I start walking on any docks. Life was meant to be lived as an adventure. hey everyone. a few updates. 1) As I mentioned in the beginning of the June, 100% of proceeds toward the EIEL vinyl purchased in first weeks of June would go toward donations supporting BLM and other organizations in the fight for equality. we were able to raise a few hundred dollars toward BLM and New England Blacks in Philanthropy, and organization that informs and reforms issues and work in black communities (receipts will be posted in our story) I really hope you’ve taken the time to listen, read, learn, and act about everything that is happening. I would love to see what you have been creating lately so please share with the group. I also want to share a tutorial on making rice bags for ice and heat therapy. There are Many patterns on Pinterest, and the one I used was a 9x20 inch pattern with six columns. I am going to show you one with four columns. You will use approximately 3 cups total of rice and then you can add any aromatherapy or lavender when filling the chambers. Jour 8 - Hirscheneck, Bâle, Suisse. Couchés à 5h00, réveil froideur à 9h00, ça pique de ouf. On démarre après quelques manœuvres pas piquées des hannetons, on traverse les Dolomites et c’est magnifique. La route est bien plus chiante que d’autres trajets et on passe par des chemins par lesquels seul un GPS peut vous guider (coucou le soit-disant cul de sac à Rheinfeld). On arrive à 19h au final, on s’installe, on line-check, et surtout on mange. Le Hirscheneck est un bar / resto / salle de concert / lieu culturel et politisé et c’est très cool d’y revenir pour nous. Pâtes et salade pour un combo gagnant avec tout type de boisson. C’est déjà l’avant dernier concert, on est tout près de la maison, c’est assez bizarre. CIAD commence puis nous puis Hate Me Tomorrow (avec qui on avait joué vendredi dernier). Fréquentation en dents de scie en fonction des groupes et des moments, mais grossièrement bonne soirée et quelques chouettes rencontres. Nico se couche tôt pour cause de maladie, le camion va super bien, on perds Alexis, on dodo sur place dans un super schlaffing comme on dit maintenant, certains prolongent au GinTo. Things have undoubtedly been tight as we have dealt with a new normal of a closed office, furloughed staff, and limited resources, but we have persevered and have been working hard to support our bands and customers. Unfortunately, when it rains, it pours. We were informed by our landlord that the building Bridge Nine has been in for the past 13 years is now being sold. We are now facing either a sizable increase in our rent or, more likely, we will have to relocate -- both options that will present significant financial challenges outside of our usual commitments.
