Something I’ve affirmed owning my business is that the only limitations that exist are those we put on ourselves. Take the idea of a dream client, for example. One of mine was always Blue Hill at Stone Barns. So, I reached out to them last year. Sent them a really heartfelt email, not selling myself, but really just sharing how much our passions and missions align. I had just finished reading The Third Plate by @chefdanbarber, and I was just so darn inspired. So I thought to myself, why not share that? Not only did I hear back from the @bluehillfarm team, but they invited me out to Stone Barns to meet with them. I spent an incredible morning there, connecting and having conversation and finding so much common ground with other humans. I also had some really delicious farm fresh treats at the Grain Bar, but that’s just icing. Even though there was not an open position at the time, I never would have had the opportunity to make the connection with likeminded individuals if I hadn’t just reached out. And reached out from a genuine place, seeking connection. So I guess what I’m trying to say is, think about your dream client, your dream employer, your dream job... and go after it. Send that email, that Instagram DM. The only thing standing in your way is you. Being on the 1940s set was uh-mazing, I felt like a time traveller. 3️⃣ I started my first business in high school with my friend Julia, making and selling velvet scarves. We even had a bank account! 4️⃣ My first full time job was as an office manager and I hated it so much I swore never to go back to an office job. It was nearly 10 years until I set foot in an office again and discovered not all offices are the same. 5️⃣ I like to think of myself as a culinary adventurer - some of the weirder foods I’ve eaten included deep-fried grubs, jellyfish salad, frog curry and barbecued rat. . Another fun Albert Nipon set, this time from @breakfastvintage This well-loved designer is 93 years old this year. He and his wife Pearl launched their dress business in 1972. Nipon has many times credited his wife for the brand’s design aesthetic. Nipons were in the maternity-dress business when a merchandise manager at Saks Fifth Avenue suggested he make some dresses for Saks. Even though it was when practically all women were wearing trousers, the dresses were an immediate success, Nipon recalled. Making dresses ran “counter to the trend.
