Dass dieser allerdings nicht immer aus Japan stammen muss, beweist uns mal wieder Italien: „Selenio“ von @reishunger eignet sich ausgezeichnet für Sushi und muss dabei nicht extra aus Japan zu uns geschickt werden. Wer sich also mal an italienischem Sushi-Reis versuchen möchte, findet das außergewöhnliche Korn in unserem Onlineshop (den Link findest du in unserer Bio). Aside from traditional quilting, I also really love EPP (English paper piecing). I typically pull a 50 weight @aurifilthread shade from my collection that will blend with the colors in the fabrics. Sometimes thats a bit difficult especially in instances like this where Im using a deep teal next to pink / white. My rule of thumb is to go with the lightest color, or one in between the two that will blend nicely. Are you an EPP enthusiast like me? Have you ever tried it? Be Like Others (2008), dir. Tanaz Eshaghian A vital documentary about transsexuality in modern Tehran, exploring issues of gender and sexual identity while following the personal stories of some patients at a gender reassignment clinic. Although homosexual relationships are illegal (punishable by death) in Iran, sex reassignment operations are permitted. In 1987, Islamic leader Ayatollah Khomeini passed a fatwa allowing sex-change operations as a cure for diagnosed transsexuals. In Iran, homosexuality is socialised to be considered a shameful choice and transsexuality is (very wrongly!) thought of as a curable mental illness. Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has notoriously proclaimed that there are no homosexuals in Iran—homosexuality has (again, wrongly!) become interchangeable with transsexuality due to fear, censorship and repression. One of the patients at Dr. Bahram Mir-Jalalis Mirdamad Surgical Centre is Ali Askar, a 24-year-old who faces harassment due to their feminine appearance and behaviour. They do not want to become a woman but see no other options in Iranian society. They assert that they are not homosexual and are socialised by society to view homosexuality as something that is immoral. By the end of the film, Ali has become a woman named Negar. She has been disowned by her family, experienced depression and has had to work as a prostitute. Twenty-year-old Anoosh has been ostracised due to their femininity. Their boyfriend feels more comfortable when Anoosh dresses as a woman, and in contrast to Ali, Anooshs mother is supportive of their desire to change sex. The end of the film shows Anoosh-now Anahita–happy and engaged to her boyfriend. However, her boyfriend has become increasingly distant since Anahita had her surgery. The film played at the Sundance Film Festival and the Berlin International Film Festival, winning three awards. It is not currently available to watch online. I’ve got a knit version of the Cadence Color-Blocked Cowl coming your way this week! ***walk down memory lane #20 - Alegria. Still one of the most beautiful cushion covers I have designed so far. I do love the twelve-pointed star in the middle of this pattern so so so much. Besides that I did chose to once use two colors of yarn instead of the deep and rich colorways I often decide to take. The story behind Alegria isn’t that interesting as it was just a combination of relaxed crochet designing and happiness when I saw what my mind came up with this time. And I think it is time to close off the walk down memory lane. Soon enough we are starting the Dia de los Muertos CAL and in the meantime new work is coming up.
