The level of gratitude we feel for having been able to feed you, to get to know you, to host your birthday lunches and hangover brunches, your first dates and your engagement dinners, simply put, its beyond words. Jimmys Diner opened in 2007 on a sleepy strip of Union Avenue, before condos and social media and avocado toast. We employed artists and musicians and fed bartenders on their days off and families who squeezed into our only large table, the front one. We planned to stay open for many years to come, but Covid had other plans for us. But do not be sad, do not feel for bad for us. We take with us thirteen years of memories, of making some amazing friends and being able to say that for awhile we were lucky enough to run a pretty great diner in the best city in the world. Its finally happening! Excited to announce that we will begin releasing our album FIG on July 17th! We are going to be releasing 3 songs at a time every couple of months leading up to the full album release in January. The album was recorded at Swingfingers Recording Studio, produced/mixed by Vago Galindo and mastered by Jett Galindo at Bakery Mastering. Ever since the introduction of YouTube to the digital world, the music industry has never been the same. These days, content is king, and the best kind of content to share with your audiences is video. How many days have gone by in the past week where you haven’t watched a funny cat video, seen a 30 second clip of a chicken parm recipe, or watched a music video of one of your favorite artists? Chances are if you are online, you are consuming thousands of minutes a video a year – yet a cappella groups rarely take up the opportunity to do a professional music video and share it with their audiences. We think that should be different, and we have four reasons why. 1. Video Captures Attention 2. Youll stand out among other local groups 3. Artistic Expression 4. You could sing with JoJo Well maybe not every time, but this is true story, and one of many! Forte A Cappella, a group from Centerville High School, tweeted their video of “Save My Soul” at the original artist, pop singer JoJo. She spotted it, loved it, and invited the group to perform with her live at a concert in DC. This is not a one hit wonder story: groups who’ve done amazing videos have been featured in major magazines and online news journals like Teen Vogue and Huffington Post and received many celebrity spotlights. My life is shifting. What once served me, serves me no more. What used to light me up, has shifted. As I’m sure you can see by the content of my account. I have been depressed, I have worked to the point my life had fallen apart, I have won awards and got really weird about it, I have lost awards and drank myself into oblivion, I have done the drugs, I searched for external validation, I have been fused with my identity as chef and restauranteur, I told myself I am only as good as the food I make, I have moved through many different phases in my relationship, I am a father, a husband, I have started 3, 7 figure businesses, and another that is still growing, I have outgrown relationships, grew into new ones, I have lead teams of 100 people, sometimes not very well, but I learned a shit ton doing it. I have bought out partners and partners bought me out. I have gone from letting my emotions run me to, holy shit, how is this life I am living, so beautiful. I am surrounded by support, I have everything I have ever needed, my life is stable and relationships are strong. The kicker is, Why do I have to work so hard for the things I already have? I do not have all the answers, but I do know, I have an absolute shit ton of life experience. I have a toolbox full of grade A tools and I am ready and called to share them with you. I will be building out a system to assist CEO’s, executives, young professionals that are caught in the hamster wheel. That seem to “have it all” yet struggle on the inside, and know they could do better. If you are one of these people, and may not know where to go, reach out. I lead a somewhat double life. Only the people who know me know that aside from music, I spend the other half of my life as an English teacher here in San Antonio. I applied to be part of the corps for @teachforamerica ,and I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to be accepted. Normally each day is spent with me lesson planning, grading, writing music, and hopefully having some time to eat and sleep, but this last week has been different. • • With schools shut down, we’re moving into online learning this Monday, and I find myself missing my students and teaching them everyday. However, this just means us teachers need to find a way to engage with our students in more creative ways! I’m so grateful for the opportunity that I’ve been given to be a teacher, and as I move into this next season of life, I’m going to try to hold onto that. • • If there are any other teachers out there, I’d love to hear any thoughts or suggestions on what you all think of online learning. This is exactly how I looked the day I decided to do Quarantine Covers. *link in bio* I hadn’t had a haircut in a good few weeks. It was chilly outside and I was in lockdown at home in my favorite old jeans, a sweater and socks. Since the virus was so new and I understood so little about it I was afraid to go see my dad out of fear of passing it to him. The imagery for this project came to me in a flash and I couldn’t wait to put a chair in the corner of the room and see what this shot would look like. I set the timer on my camera and snapped this picture. Just one. When I saw it I thought, “Yep, that’s it! This is how I feel today…” That seems like a long time ago but I’ve come to realize that the day to day of this pandemic and all the underlying stress it brings is still right there! Some days on the surface, somedays subconsciously working on me and I don’t even know it. More often than not I feel like I’m living in a very surreal world, but let’s face it, these truly are surreal times. What better time to cover “A Million Miles Away” by the Plimsouls? I’ve always thought of this song as a kind of surreal love song. It leaves a lot of room for you to use your imagination and wonder, “Just who is Peter Case singing to? What is this all about? When, where, why?!!!” On top of it all, it is just a fucking killer tune!!! If you really want a dose of Plimsouls’ surrealism, and maybe why this song came to me at this time, check out the ultra-surreal music video to the original song that was released in the early 1980’s when MTV was still new and didn’t totally suck. I’ve always loved this song and I hope my cover connects with you. Out of all the covers I have done to date, it might be my favorite. Avui és un dia molt especial. Aquest matí hem arribat a Medusa Estudio, on treballarem fins diumenge. Gravarem el primer disc de la Belén Bandera. Es podria dir que és el primer CD que gravo, de forma podríem dir professional, que tindrà la seva presentació oficial, i que espero que ens porti a tocar a llocs bonics. Tot un pas més a la professió que fa temps que persegueixo. Recordo la Belén a l’escola de Badalona, un dia vam tocar juntes a una jam a la Sargantana, recordo que es va autoeditar un llibre, recordo que va fer un tema amb videoclip, recordo que m’explicava que volia formar big band, recordo que ens vam trobar al concert de la Maria Schneider a Barcelona, recordo que em va convidar a esmorzar per explicar-me que tenia un projecte de cançons seves..... Una somiadora. O una persona tan desperta, que només fa que cumplir els seus propòsits. I per mi és un luxe compartir i crèixer amb dones així. Avui no faig vaga. This is from DAY 2 of shooting “The Opening Act”. The scene takes place as @moffatpics and @funnyasiandude are asked to do morning radio. Jimmy has never done radio before and what could go wrong? This is the only scene that from first draft to day of shooting, didn’t change. What happened in the scene actually happened to me and is a combo of 2 experiences I had on the road early on. In short, yikes. This was such a fun day. All the comics on set and they all knew this scene because we all had this happen to us in one way or another. I didn’t have to direct too much. My only hiccup was getting @russellpeters to say YINZ. I’m from PGH and it’s slang and he just couldn’t do it which made me laugh. He kept saying “y’all’s guys”.
