The Lionheart Round Britain Row 2020 has come to an end. ⠀ ⠀ Gus and Duncan had to make the difficult decision to finish their amazing effort on Wednesday afternoon as they simply ran out of time. Gus is due to be best man at his brother’s wedding tomorrow and he wouldn’t miss it for anything.⠀ ⠀ The boys had the pairs record of 41 days in their minds to beat, and had 45 days available to them so they had a pretty good shot at getting there. Unfortunately, Mother Nature had other plans for them and they ended up spending 10 days in total stuck on anchor making no progress. ⠀ ⠀ They knew the challenges that they would face but chose to go for it anyway, and after all of the hard work and preparation that went into their Pacific row which sadly couldn’t go ahead, both of the guys have been selfless by putting it all to good use and raising money for their chosen charities. ⠀ ⠀ At the time of posting the boys have managed to raise a massive £11,746.16 for @nhscharitiestogether and @sportinmind ⠀ Duncan and Gus rowed 1279 nautical miles in 44 days 18 hours and 2 minutes. ⠀ We are so proud to call them our Lionheart Round Britain Row 2020 ambassadors.⠀ ⠀ Congratulations guys, what an achievement! ⠀ ⠀ A few words from Duncan: “Our boat Lily stood up to every single test that was thrown at us. Whether that was fighting through the rough white water of the Ramsey Sound, battling the huge over falls off The Mull of Galloway or clawing our way repeatedly into headwinds and against tides ... no matter what the situation she was absolutely bomb proof.⠀ ⠀ We have been extremely fortunate with the huge amount of support been given to us by the entire ocean rowing community but no more so than Rannoch Adventure. Our team competed in the PBC on Keowee yesterday and it was still tough on our teams as a whole. Garrett and Corbin had a great day in the middle school division with a 3rd place for individual team and 2nd place overall school. This is their second good finish in a row and 2nd school trophy for this season. Congratulations on a great finish and keep up the good work. They should make the classic in April at this pace. Daniel and Carter also fished but are still working on figuring this lake out.. As for High school, Luke and Kaleb got their 3rd straight top 10 of the season in PBC. While this will guarantee them a spot in the classic in April, our other high school teams need a good finish at Hartwell to get into the classic. A new enzyme ‘cocktail’ could help tackle plastic waste and recycling issues. A team of scientists at the University of Portsmouth in England have developed a new “super enzyme” that can break down plastics up to six times faster than standard enzymes, according to a new research paper published Monday in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America. This combination of enzymes can speed up the decomposition process for the most common thermoplastic, polyethylene terephthalate (PET), which is used in single-use bottles, carpets, and clothing. This thermoplastic usually takes hundreds of years to degrade in the environment, but the new enzyme compound takes only days to convert it back to its building blocks. Scientists hope this new discovery could improve the recycling process by reducing the need to make new plastic out of fossil fuels. - @cheddar on Instagram

Absolutely heartbreaking... 😔 Over NINETY whales are now dead, and authorities are trying to save over 100 whales that are still stuck after becoming stranded on Tasmanias West Coast. It is unknown what drew the whales to the shore. Whale beachings are common in the region, but one of this size has not been seen in over a decade. Turtles aren’t trash, but this trashy art was inspired by a piece of hard plastic trash plucked from the ocean. Inspired by our concern for turtles’ habitat and our interest in protecting them from human detritus. If you’re out in the water where sea grass grows, you will notice the similarity between aging sea grass and the strips of plastic that are woven to make sandbags, rice bags, dog food bags, etc., and that degrade and end up in waterways and our oceans. Somebody should have forseen this hazard and decided this “invention“ of woven plastic bags was not a good idea. Im so glad I saw this before logging off tonight. As an artist and activist myself, @banksys work and commitment to justice (especially around the refugee crisis) has lifted my heart off the floor in so many ways over the last 5 years, and this right now, could not have been more timely. This is a reminder of how things CAN be. This is more than just money. In fact if it was just down to money this wouldnt have even happened. A fierce heart for humanity is what allowed for this to happen, art was the way maker, money was the by product and THIS was / is the result. Im tired and emotional today so I thank you deeply for this Hope and Heart @banksy. I thank all fellow artists and activists. I thank all warriors, lightworkers, educators, truth speakers, change makers, doers and FEELERS. Feeling is what makes us act. This war on humanity has been driven by our numbness, apathy and incapacity to feel. And I thank all bad ass sea crews on rescue boats like these, who are just regular people like you and I, but who acknowledge the FIRECRACKER JUICE that flows through their veins, and they choose to use it out in those seas - OUR SEAS - to protect the lives of our fellow brothers and sisters. I have the immense privilege of some of these people - both those being rescued and the rescuers - being my treasured friends. They are every bit as phenomenal as you could imagine.
