Hi, new followers!! Taking a moment to reintroduce myself! 🌼I’m a mental health advocate. My dream is for mental health care to be accessible to all, especially to women and POC communities. I’m young in my journey of figuring out how, but I’m interested in: *policy interventions *partnering with practitioners *untangling the confusing world of insurance coverage *creating more spaces for culturally relevant care *destigmitizing mental health care 💌The best way I can contribute to destigmatizing now, in addition to building @jointhecosmos, is to tell my own story. I am an Aries, and a Gemini Moon, which means I come off passionate, social, outgoing when people first meet me. That is a real part of me!! ⚡️✨But I also have depression and anxiety.✨⚡️ I was “diagnosed” 3 years ago, when I sought therapy b/c I was completely beaten down by tech burnout and work trauma. 😭🥵I am new to taking anti-anxiety medication (Lexapro, it’s working so far!). I go to therapy, thanks to generous friends and family contributions to my therapy fund!! But I haven’t been able to afford it for a while, cuz #entrepreneur life. I practice meditation for 20 minutes a day by going on “meditation walks” (LOL, I can’t sit still) when I wake up. I write myself 💌love letters💌 every morning to practice speaking to myself with compassionate language b/c ya girl has hella negative thoughts. I realize I need a lot of love and emotional support but I struggle to ask for it without feeling like a burden. Even with all this “mental health care”, I have bad days that are just hard and I disappear into a dark tunnel. 🌪Mental health looks different for everyone. Fibromyalgia Pain+ Healthy Sleep💤 _ Fibromyalgia is a chronic health condition that can cause widespread musculoskeletal pain. _ Contrary to popular belief, it does not cause systemic inflammation and it is not considered to be an autoimmune disease. Individuals may have a chief complaint of symptoms such as tenderness to touch/pressure (for at least 3 months), severe fatigue, sleep disturbance or feeling unrefreshed from sleep, impaired memory or a reduced ability to think clearly (“foggy state” or “fibro fog”). _ Sleep problems are one of the most common complaints that individuals have with this condition. Many people report not feeling like they get restful sleep because deep sleep patterns are interrupted. _ Studies have detected distinct patterns in Fibromyalgia patients. Sleep deprivation may exacerbate the pain that is characteristic. Restless leg syndrome and sleep apnea (a condition where there are pauses in breathing) may also cause sleep disruption and should be considered as secondary causes of reduced sleep. _ Sleeping comfortably may be a huge challenge for these individuals because of the widespread body pain and multiple tender points. _ Some things that may help include: ⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️ _ 1) Sleeping on a particular side may be helpful in relieving the tension or stress on these tender points. _ 2) Consider using a standard or body pillow between the knees or under the back or stomach to try and alleviate pressure on the back, knees & other muscles. _ 3) Bringing the knees up towards the chest or raising the knees may again alleviate pressure on the hip/pelvis area and back. _ 4) Picking out a mattress (perhaps with body foam) that is right for that particular person can also help with sleeping comfortably. _ 5) Using the soothing noise machine or app such as the Calm app may also assist with having a more comfortable sleep _ Do you have questions about Fibromyalgia? ✨ Work Life Balance ✨ When I commit- I commit 100%. There are no shortcuts, back roads, or excuses. When I commit, I give my absolute all. This applies to my life in medicine as well. During medical school, residency, and fellowship, the struggle was real. I was working 80 hour weeks, missing countless family events, not taking time for myself. My focus during that time in my life was to get as much education and experience as possible so that I can become the best doctor I can possibly be. There was no balance. I was so ready to become an attending so I can finally have that glorious life everyone talks about. Now one year into being an attending and I realize I still struggle. Doctors don’t have an “off” switch. I still worry about my patients long after my work day is over. I’m constantly trying to improve myself by reading and studying new research, learning about new therapies. I admit I feel guilty taking vacations because I feel that I’m not making myself available to my patients. But I realize that being a great doctor also depends on how fulfilled my life is outside of medicine. So I made a choice: I chose to work to live, not live to work. I started to meditate, exercise, explore recipes, and relax more (guilt free). I educated myself on topics outside of medicine like finance and politics. I made more of an effort to see my family and friends. I stopped judging myself. The quarantine period and COVID-19 has put a lot into perspective and helped open my eyes to the importance of self care. It’s still a work in progress and I have much room to grow but taking small steps to get there. Познав заточение в несколько месяцев и зачастую беспомощность в определённых вопросах, начинаешь ценить делневпроворот, суету да и вообще на мир смотришь через другую оптику. И так, пока рождались птенчики мы с дочкой плясали в другом городе. По возвращению обнаружен приплод в виде цыплят и недосчёт в виде котят. А точнее они исчезли вовсе. Кошка их искала и громогласно мяукала на пол посёлка, тем самым уверив меня, что котят не иначе как кто-то стащил. “Your voice is HORRIBLE”⠀ ⠀ For the first time in my 2 years as an influencer, I got a direct hit in my comment section. (I knew it was coming) lol Oh yes, someone left this comment for me, about me. Wowzers!!! ⠀ A few years ago, this comment would have utterly devastated me. ⠀ ⠀ I can honestly say, when I stumbled across this one, amongst all the other wonderful comments, I smiled. ⠀ I said to myself....”God, I thank you.” ⠀ ⠀ I’m thankful because y’all, at this moment in my life....I KNOW who I am. I know that I’m called of God, and blessed. I know that I belong to ABBA. I know that he’s with me and that this voice that he’s given me, has significance in this world. I’m grateful for this because for so long I based everything I did off of what others “felt” about it and when I did something, I needed validation to feel it was pleasing to God. No longer is this the case. ⠀ ⠀ It’s so important to connect to God for yourself. It’s imperative for us to get our validation, consolation and motivation from HIM! He has to be our source. He must be our REASON! Nothing we do should be to make someone like us, praise us or confirm that he’s using us. We should be so close to God that we are in tune with him and move in harmony with his spirit, daily. This kind of connection only comes through obedience, much prayer and humility. ⠀ ⠀ I understand that not everyone will support, and receive what God has given me to share with this world, and that’s ok. Despite this, I will proclaim his name and his goodness and who it’s meant to reach, it will. ⠀ ⠀ Thank you to all of you that have shared how you’ve been blessed over the years through my singing, blogging, prayers and more. ⠀ You have also blessed me. Your support and encouragement have caused me to thrive and stand strong even when I felt insignificant, hopeless and alone. The other day I listened to @davidchoe on @joerogan - it was inspiring and mesmerizing ✨ When @davidchoe was asked what he was up to, he said, I dont have anything going on, Im working on myself. That answer resonated with me, as I have been asked that question multiple times since closing the boutique, and my answer going forward, will be exactly that. After years of solely focusing on my shop, and almost nothing else, I am taking this next phase to work on becoming a better person, a better wife, a better friend, a better sister, a better daughter, a better aunt. All too often I hear patients and their family members when discussing their concerns about their mental health or treatment, bring up actual myths. I thought I would put to rest a few that I have heard that are just not true! FIVE myths about mental health treatment: ✖️ Medications will change your personality ✖️ You can look at someone and know if they take a psychiatric medication as their are obvious physical side effects of the medication ✖️ Therapy is exclusively about the past and does not deal with the present or the future ✖️ Antidepressants are “happy pills” meaning that if you take them soon after you will automatically be happy ✖️ Taking a medication means you are weak or have not tried hard enough - @dianasamuelmd on Instagram

WHY CHRISTIANITY? ✝️ [save for later] If you’ve been following me on here for sometime then you can probably tell that I’m a Christian and I’m quite open about it, especially on this platform. So, for those of you who are kinda thinking what’s the big deal about this whole “Jesus thing”? This post is for you! ☺️ . So...why am I a Christian and what’s the big deal? Well for starters the Gospel means GOOD NEWS. It’s the ultimate LOVE STORY of God and his children. . God made the world 🌎 and its people 👩🏾🤝👨🏼perfect and then as time went on we chose to love our sin and self more than Him. We CHOSE to disobey God and follow our own path which only lead to destruction, selfishness, pain and, ultimately, a sin ravaged world. BUT God wasn’t done with us yet! Because of His GREAT LOVE for us He devised a plan that would bring us back to Him. He GAVE His only begotten Son, JESUS CHRIST (John 3:16) whose work on the cross changed EVERYTHING!!! Jesus bore the burden of our sin and took the wrath of God onto himself whilst hanging from the cross, so we wouldn’t have to. We deserved punishment because of our SIN but Jesus took our punishment and bore our suffering (Isaiah 53:4) if that’s not LOVE I don’t know what is! On the third day He rose again, defeating death and grave. (1 Corinthians 15:4). Now because of this GREAT SACRIFICE “if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9). Because of His work on the cross we who believe will have eternal life, we don’t fear death because God has defeated death through His Son. God has prepared a place for us in heaven and not only that but we now have direct access to Him. He has also given us his Holy Spirit who is with us while we are still on earth to point us to Jesus and help us through life. This is the greatest love story ever told this is why I am a Christian ✝️ , this is why I believe.
