MYSTERY SOLVED! A week ago, we added Russ Cooks #1957ChevroletCustom Corvette to the #KustomramaLostAndFound section. Russ bought the already customized car in 1979. In 2003 he passed it on to his grandson Randy Koch. According to rumors, the car had been built in the Portland, Oregon area in the mid-1960s. Randy had no idea who the original builder or owner was, so he turned to us for assistance. We added what Randy knew about the Vette to Kustomrama and included it in our previous Newsletter. Well, guess what! It took about 15 minutes from we hit the send button until Ron Gerlitz had replied and filled us in on the cars history. Ron could tell us that well known Portland customizer #VonHunter had built the car. In fact, the Vette was his personal custom! WOW! Strike one. Ron put Randy in touch with Vons son Scott, who could confirm the story and fill us in with more details about the cars history. The updated story can now be found on #Kustomrama, along with a couple of remaining mysteries. Please get in touch with us if you have the keys to solve these. So yesterday I just discovered Fisker Coachbuilt released a car a while back called the Fisker Latigo CS V10. I was surprised it rides on the bones of a E63 BMW M6. It’s equipped with the famous S85. Fisker Coachbuilt offered a “Performance Plus” package which boasts the S85 engine from 507HP to 665HP. This option costed $55,000, the engine is rebuilt and tuned by RD Sport. They only made 1 customer car which is the one in this photo in 2007. On February 5 2018 it was auctioned off for $105,001. It was no surprise, perhaps, that when the DB5 appeared in 1964 it would soon give rise to a Vantage version of its own. However, it might be more surprising to learn that only 68 cars of a total production run of 887 4.0-litre DB5 saloons were fitted with the optional Vantage engine, equipped with triple Weber carburetors and good for 325bhp – 40bhp more than available in the standard car. The DB5 Convertible with the Vantage engine is a combination that is rarer still with only eight sports cars, out of the 123 built, featuring this engine. Genuine original examples of the DB5 Vantage and DB5 Vantage Convertible are, therefore, considered very desirable indeed, although many standard cars have over time also been modified to Vantage specification.
