Posted @withregram • @hrmsmrd A produção fotográfica do americano Joel-Peter Witkin está dentro daquela ideia de grotesco, da deformação, do abjeto, mas não podemos negar que há algo de estético e atraente na sua fotografia. Ele aproxima o que a sociedade rejeita, o repulsivo, daquilo que pode ser apreciado e tensiona essa noção do que é belo. Witkin trabalha em suas fotos com corpos fora do padrão, mutilados, intersexuais e muitas vezes com cadáveres. Os negativos em grande formato, em preto e branco, são arranhados e as cópias recebem banhos químicos que dão um contraste entre o negro e o azul, criando maior dramaticidade. Para poder trabalhar, o fotógrafo busca “modelos” no México, já que encontra dificuldade em usar cadáveres nos Estados Unidos. É bom falar da arte de Witkin em um momento em que há censura em várias plataformas, porque quando falamos de arte não pode haver limitações, não pode haver censura. A única regra é ser verdadeiro. Ive now even resorted to eavesdropping on people in school, in coffee shops, in the frozen food aisle to find interesting expressions for inspiration! One thing Ive never tried before though is writing a poem based on an image, so I thought Id give that a whirl! Zdarza się Wam sięgać po książki dla młodszych czytelników? Mnie czasami kuszą takie tytuły i tym razem w moje ręce wpadł Dziki robot autorstwa @peterbrownstudio. Opowieść zaczyna się feralnego dnia. Podczas sztormu tonie statek pełen robotów, niewiele z nich przetrwało. Te które przetrwały dryfowały w skrzyniach, aż rozbiły się o skały. Tylko jedna skrzynia dotarła w całości do brzegu dzikiej wyspy. I tak oto zaczyna się historia Roz, uruchomiona przypadkiem przez ciekawskie wydry zaczyna żyć i adaptować się do niezwykłej sytuacji. Robotka pełna pytań, które zostają bez odpowiedzi wyrusza w podróż, ku odnalezieniu swojego miejsca na ziemi. Ciężko jest mi znaleźć odpowiednie słowa... Ponieważ ta książka poruszyła we mnie coś czułego, wywołała w sercu ciepło i pozostawiła ze szczerym uśmiechem na ustach. Nie spodziewałam się, że historia Roz aż tak mnie wciągnie. Autor w swojej opowieści porusza wiele ważnych kwestii, które powinniśmy uświadamiać dzieciom już od najmłodszych lat. Robi to w wyjątkowy sposób, nazywając rzeczy po imieniu. Ukazuje czym jest przyjaźń, miłość i oddanie, ale nie boi się także pokazać czym jest śmierć, odmienność, odrzucenie, wrogość, czy samotność. Today Sept 18 is 1 year since Smokehouse 93 has been open and serving Slow Smoked BBQ in the quaint town of Invermere, British Columbia 🏔🇨🇦 . . To say this year has been crazy, would sound like a broken record with everything that’s been happening in 2020 . . Needless to say its been a journey that’s only just started. With the support of the Columbia Valley and the many tourists that venture to see our spectacular landscape, Smokehouse 93 will be growing into the future. . . We always get asked what type of wood we use or what type of smokers we are using. Since day one we’ve been using 2 Timberline 1300’s D2 with wifire from @traegergrills They’re pumping out anywhere from 75lbs to 300lbs of meat per day. These bad boys have run daily, maybe getting a couple hrs rest while they get cleaned for the next days brisket, butt, etc. They smoke with consistent flavour and have kept our business running during -35 to +35 weather. If you’re an avid backyard smoker and you have any questions on your Traeger feel free to DM. I’m pretty sure I could troubleshoot anything on these Traeger’s. . . We’re going to be shutting down the Smokehouse from Sept 21-Oct1. Re-opening Oct 2 with our new kitchen fully operating, a second bathroom to our dining room and right behind that should be our liquor license. . . Thank you very much for your support and we’re excited to keep smoking Slow Smoked BBQ, packaging Sauces, Seasoning and Beef Jerky for all to enjoy into the future. . . A very lovely person wrote to me recently letting me know that for personal reasons, they could no longer keep their copy of Disco Ball Soul. Despite this fact, they didn’t want the book to be thrown away or unloved. They asked if I knew someone who might appreciate and love it the way they had. I felt grateful to have such generous admirers of my work, and thought this might be a good place to see if someone wanted it, free of charge. “Serra da Ermida 357” Em 1990 o Brasil sofreu o impacto de um pacote econômico que consistiu no confisco das aplicações bancárias da população, denominado Plano Collor. Suas medidas abusivas abalaram a sociedade, faliram famílias e empresários, levando várias pessoas ao suicídio. Abordando questões sobre vida e morte, tragicidade e afetividades, este projeto da artista Daniela de Moraes desdobra-se em uma trilogia em formato de livro. No primeiro volume, a artista refaz o caminho trilhado pelo avô de seu filho, representando subjetivamente o local onde ele suicidou-se. Num segundo momento, intervém em imagens do álbum de família do personagem central dessa história, reconstruindo cronologicamente sua trajetória da infância à vida adulta. Ao final, um encarte reedita imagens e notícias de jornais de 1990, contextualizando o momento sócio-político da época, um dos mais surreais e traumáticos da nossa história. My last edition of @suitcase, the ironically titled Freedom Issue (😂) is out this week. Despite the challenges of putting its final stages together during lockdown and while navigating a redundancy, I’m really proud of the end result, which contains thoughtful, gorgeous features from the likes of @emilygarthwaite, @sophy_roberts, @davidyarrow, @joewhoward and @patmcgrathreal. A little excerpt from my Ed’s Letter: “There are no easy answers as to how we can navigate the world and our impact on it more thoughtfully, whether with regards to the natural environment, entrenched inequality or the legacy we leave. But if we have learned anything from the horror show that is 2020, it is that it is absolutely imperative to spend time trying. Because while moments of crisis can seem terrifying and opaque, they also offer the opportunity for total reinvention. As the writer Rebecca Solnit beautifully puts it, “It’s as if the pack ice has broken up, the water starts flowing again and boats can move through places they could not during winter.” Travel has always been synonymous with escape, but in the new world order true freedom will not mean being able to hop on and off planes and go wherever we want, whenever we want. Instead, those of us lucky enough to emerge with our health and our means intact have a responsibility to rethink the validity of what we once assumed was our right.” Thank you to all the bloody wonderful contributors I’ve worked with over the last 11 issues, to @serenaguen for the opportunity and to the rest of the team for indulging my madcap ideas. Really excited to share that my Chinatown Book I Was Lured Into A Tea Shop is now out! Link in the bio :) In 2013, I started a photography project for myself that was meant to challenge my commitment to be photograph for 1 year. At the end of that year, I compiled a number of my photos and created a book from them. Within weeks of sending to print, I had received a text from my wife saying “the book is here!” It was really exciting to see some of my work in print. It really made things very tangible. As my fingers carefully pulled each page across, I saw more and more of Chinatown come together in that book.
