🎨 Zwei Ölbilder von Ernst Morgenthaler (1887-1962) zeigen die industrielle Blütenzeit des Hard-Quartiers. Der Berner Maler, der in Zürich-Höngg gelebt hatte, malte die Bilder im Auftrag von Peter Schmidheiny. Dieser war in den 1950er-Jahren Präsident der Escher Wyss Maschinenfabrik AG und brauchte für die Eingangshalle seiner Büros ein Gemälde. Wo das zweite Morgenthaler-Bild hing, ist nicht bekannt. Man nimmt jedoch an, dass es an einem wichtigen Ort innerhalb der Escher-Wyss-Verwaltung zu sehen war und auf die Leistungen der Firma aufmerksam machte. Die beiden Werke von Ernst Morgenthaler sind seltene Zeugen einer künstlerischen Auseinandersetzung mit der Zürcher Industrie im 20. Jahrhundert und erinnern die Betrachter, dass die Limmatstadt und die ganze Schweiz vor noch nicht allzu langer Zeit ein Industriestandort gewesen ist.
