Would like to thank the Bhakta team for giving me the opportunity to review their blend of 8 Armagnac vintages (1868, 1904, 1933, 1947, 1951, 1959, 1964, 1970) barrel 4: Galahad, bottled at 47.7 % abv and finished in Islay Scotch casks, from the private cellar of Raj Peter Bhakta . And yes, you heard me, they really do finish in Islay casks, giving it a uniquely smoky touch. Armagnac is a small-batch brandy, distilled from grapes in the Armagnac region of Gascony, France, and generally produced in small amounts using a different distillation process to Cognac, resulting in a smooth, complex spirit. On the nose you are instantly greeted, by a pleasant smell of butterscotch cookies gently cooking in the oven- just like entering grandma’s house. There are plenty of floral-citrus notes with a touch of vanilla, and a honey sweetness with a little of the smoke from the Islay barrel wafting in towards the end. On the palate there is a distinct oakiness, which is pleasantly interlaced with the floral sweetness and a little spice. This dram had me nosing for longer than normal, as it kept evolving with time. The finish was medium to long, with the notes from the Armagnac playing nicely with the flavors infused from the Islay cask, neither overwhelming the other. Bhakta, in my opinion, are producing some expectational Armagnac’s- a must try for any serious whisky connoisseur. The Islay cask seems to elevate an already wonderful spirit, into a whole new realm. Raj has built yet another wonderful brand, and I can imagine will far surpass any previous endeavors. Introducing the 1st Glam City Gretsch Penguin! Nicknamed Mae West, this guitar started out life as a B-stock limited edition Gretsch Penguin finished in sparkly metallic casino gold with silver sparkle binding & chrome/nickel hardware purchased from @Bizarreguitarnv I refinished the top in a custom metalflake blend of large octagonal gold flakes & smaller circular flake over the casino gold. I refinished the back with hand-cut glitter logo letters & fine flake. She has a nickel finish Gretsch-branded @bigsby ( I remove the plastic washer under the spring to give it a lower sitting bar height), @tvjonesinc classics pickups, Grover imperial tuners, ebony fretboard with neoclassical thumbnail inlays, a chrome Gretsch banjo armrest, a floating Gretsch rocking bar bridge, knurled Gretsch arrow knobs with red jewels, & knurled Gretsch straplock knobs. I removed the pickguard ( I personally do not like pickguards. I also removed the truss rod cover (theyre a major hassle if you want to make adjustments) & I finished the truss rod rout with matching gold. Willett Distillery Pure Kentucky, Kentucky Straight Bourbon, 107 Proof. The sleeper in the Willett family of whiskeys. This is a blend of two different rye second grain mash bills. One high-rye (38%) and one OG Willett recipe with 12% rye. The whiskeys are aged roughly 5-7 years in favorable locations in the rickhouses before being masterfully blended. The Willett Distillery makes a number of great whiskeys and some of them have become very recognizable names--the Family Estate, Noah’s Mill, Rowan’s Creek, and Johnny Drum, sll come to mind among others. With a lineup like that, coupled with 100 years of whiskey making history it’s hard to surprise people. But so often when I crack open a PK 107 and tell the person sipping with me that this is from the Willett distillery I am met with surprise and bewilderment. And customarily a request for another pour. Pure Kentucky was originally launched in the 90s as part of the new small batch collection from Willett. Bourbon at the time was growing globally and most of the early Pure Kentucky whiskey was shipped overseas. Part of the inspiration for the package came from overseas as well; nowhere is that more apparent than with the XO designation, a famous cognac mark meant to signify an extra aged or extra old brandy. Some of those same traits also pay homage to not just the provenance of the whiskey but also the long and storied history of the Willett family, who long ago started their journey into distilling in the brandy world. Pure Kentucky has a classic rich brown color and the proof is masked by sweet nose of oaky vanilla, cinnamon, toffee, and maple. The balanced rye in the mash bill comes through with floral notes and minty eucalyptus, rounded out by hints of dried fruits like cherry and apricot, and then a touch of walnut. The oak comes through quite a bit on the palate in many forms--leather, clove, and baking spices--all followed by vanilla, toffee, and a rich oily texture. A long, balanced, and rustic finish that is pure bourbon and in a sense Pure Kentucky. Are you familiar with this whiskey? What are you tasting in the glass? - @prestigeledroit on Instagram

Funky. 🥃 You can see this bottle is well-loved. Or empty. Whatever you want to call it. It’s really taken me this whole bottle to get my thoughts together because they’ve been all over the place. At times I love it. At times it’s eh. On paper, it should be a knockout for my preferences. It’s just...funky. 🥃 First off, this purchase was inspired by a very popular SMWS cask pick awhile back. I’d never had Glen Scotia, and that bottle inspired me to check them out. Victoriana’s vitals hit all the good spots for me - it’s mainly ex-bourbon, finished in heavy char oak, un-chillfiltered, uncolored, and bottled at 51.5%. Bam. 🥃 The first thing I noticed about this was just how spicy/strong it was. Absolute full flavor, but the strength is there to the point where I would *almost* exclusively recommend drinking with water. Most tingly 51% I’ve ever had. But the spice is right behind it: huge nutmeg. Once the vanilla and oak come and go, with other ex-bourbon stereotypes, that Glen Scotia “coastal-ness” comes in. There’s that salinity and smoke that is incredibly unique to Glen Scotia. There’s so much going on here, and it’s all turned up to 11, yet sometimes it doesn’t quite meld well enough for me. And sometimes it does. It’s a moody whisky. 🥃 One of the more unique whiskies I’ve had and I’d opine a good value as well. This #albumoftheweek is another all around great album from the 1995. True Believers was a success for Phil, unfortunately it would be his last album to be apart of the mainstream CCM scene. Though it was one of Phils biggest successes he said about the album True Believer is really the most unlike me of any album Ive ever done, in my personal opinion. It was more of a manufactured concept: Were gonna make a pop album for you thats going to launch you into the next ten years.I dont know if it did. Its an unusual album to listen to for me, but there are a couple of good songs on there, though. Some of those songs were True Believers, Salvation Army Band and Son of Man. This would be the end of Phils years in the mainstream Christian music market but many great albums were still to come! I’m ready to say it: my favorite Private Edition! 🥃 Artein checks all the boxes for me. It’s an interesting wine finish (something for which Glenmorangie is well-known), yet it still has a beautiful malt backbone. That’s not easy to pull off, as wine finishes, especially one as robust as this, tend to dominate whiskies. Part of the great balance here is owed to the age of the component whiskies (15- and 21-years-old). While you certainly get dark fruits, tannins, and spice, you also get a wonderfully rich caramel and malt underneath. 🥃 It’s long been a battle between Artein, Ealanta, and Companta (can you believe those three were sequential?!) for my favorite. To my palate, Artein is roughly a better version of Companta. Different whiskies, I know, but both utilize this big wine finish. Artein comes out as more complex. As for Ealanta...well. That might be my favorite again next time you ask me 😏. A little late night #dram never hurt, and this former #whiskyoftheyear is definitely helping end the day on a high note. • • Cracking in to some #nikkafromthebarrel, a #japanesewhisky blend of single malt and single grain whiskeys that’s bottled at a healthy 51.4% ABV. It’s blended in the same way as a blended scotch, blending over 100 #whiskeys together aged in #bourbon, #sherry and other barrels to create its flavor. • • On the nose it’s very fruit forward from the sherry right off the bat coupled with vanilla, cocoa, some spice and a faint underlying hint of peat and alcohol. More fruit when it hits the palate- berries, dates, orange accompanied by caramel, vanilla, honey, cinnamon spice, and mimicking the nose there’s a light oak, peat and slight punch of #alcohol that comes in on the end leaving a sweet, dry, tingly finish. • • Extremely rich and flavorful, it’s no surprise this has won many awards. Its Whisky Wednesday here at Shelter Point and today we are enjoying one of our smallest releases to date. The Forbidden named after our local landmark The Forbidden Plateau, this small mountain and our whisky are similar in that they are both shrouded in mystery. This whisky is our very first release of a Single Malt Wheat whisky. Old Particular (Douglas Laing) Blair Athol 21 Year Old 1997-2018 56.4 ABV One of 282 bottles (12968) Refill hogshead 50ml 滴入5滴水 靜置20分鐘後 溫度7～18度 室溫18度 杯型： The Perfect Measure Whisky Glass Nose: 7～14度時，主調是玉蘭花、雲尼拿、香草植物（薰衣草）、熟柑橘。甜香味讓人聯想到烤地瓜的甜香、糖炒栗子散發的焦香味。木質調性明顯，似清新香氣的燃燒檀香，而不是新鮮的木屑味或是陳年的桶味。15度～18度時花香、雲尼拿、香草植物的香氣更加明顯，甜香味在則變成更加甜美的百花蜜氣味。氣味更加奔放，層次感有很明顯的下降。 Palate: 酒體中等，丹寧感強。不滴水時酒精的氣味與刺激感太強，稀釋後甜感提高。入口時第一個感受到的是白色花香味，還有鳳梨啤酒散發出的強勁化學鳳梨味，皂味經過輕漱後非常明顯，入喉後口腔中則繚繞著蜂巢麵包的餘味（蜂蜜+雜糧麵包的味道），以及割青草的草味。 Finish: 尾韻中等，木質調與青草味，還有一些淡淡的蜜香。 同樣的先用鼻用噴霧劑清洗過鼻腔之後，首次從7度開始紀錄變化。水則是在降溫後才滴入。這支產品算是我非常喜歡的香氣類型，口感跟尾韻也有不錯的表現，跟家中其他三支同年的阿蘇比起來，在我心中的性價比目前是最出色的。之後應該也會在紀錄裡描述香氣在不同溫度時的變化。 自從上次品茗時，很明顯的察覺到水質軟硬在盲飲上所帶來的區別後，暑假應該會挑一支稀釋後香氣不易潰散的產品，來進行一次不同鈣鎂鐵離子的礦泉水對於香氣釋放的影響觀察紀錄。 #Whisky#Whiskey #scotch#ウィスキー#威士忌#aquavitae#whiskylover#blairathol#highlandwhisky#singlecask#hogshead#douglaslaing#oldparticular - @whisky_alexswj on Instagram
