- 34 years ago, STS-51L was launched today. Due to well blow LCC temperatures, a leak in the right SRB aft joint caused hot gasses to melt and eventually erupt the external tank. This cause LOCV and all 7 astronauts were killed. They will never be forgotten. RIP

Not only was she the first woman to be hired as a Captain for American Airlines but she also recognized the challenges that came with joining what many considered a male profession, so founded the International Society of Women Airline Pilots so that other women in the industry had a place to support one another. She was the pilot of one of 38 aircraft diverted to Gander, Newfoundland on 9/11, and we talk to her about that experience, and her whole career as a bad-ass woman in aviation, on the latest episode of our podcast. Air Malta has operated its first ever flight to the Indian sub-continent on a humanitarian repatriation mission which took 110 Indian nationals home. The flight was divided in two sectors flying from Malta to Dubai then to Cochin, Kerala India. This repatriation was operated with a brand-new Airbus A320neo aircraft with registration, 9H-NEB, and flown by a compliment on eight flight and cabin crew members, commanded by Capt. Bruce Pace, with Capt. Massimo Cachia and Capt. Noel Scicluna as part of the team. It was an emotional flight for many of the passengers onboard with many of them expressing their gratitude to the crew and saying ‘Grazzi’ (thank you) in Maltese for operating this flight. And the message I shared shortly after touchdown tonight. ❤️🛫💙🛬💔 As we taxi in to our gate tonight, I want to thank all of you for making this flight memorable and wonderful. This is the last leg the three of us flight attendants will be working for a little while as we’ll all be furloughed starting October 1st. While air travel has become very transactional to many, each one of you represent a personal experience for us. I believe I can speak for my crew mates when I say I have met and served the best of humanity. The rockstars looked more like veterans and active military, the heroes were moms taking their babies to children’s hospitals and cancer centers. We’ve loved hugging you in your happiest and saddest of moments. We’ve done our best to treat you with kindness and respect. Flying isn’t a job; its simply the catalyst for us to see the world. We pour cokes and do CPR in exchange for a paycheck but what we receive in exchange is priceless. For me, its been 45 states and 15 countries in six years, more than I ever could have put together without this job. Im excited to announce a partnership that will see a brand-new Van’s RV-14 being built and flown -- becoming the official aircraft of Flight Chops. This relationship will focus on creating new video content, telling the stories and documenting the experiences of building a Van’s RV-14 aircraft and then following the airplane on its flying adventures. I’ve been carrying around a dog-eared photo of a Van’s Aircraft RV-7 in my wallet since 2001. Discovering that such a capable aircraft was both accessible and affordable was inspiring! The opportunity to meet “Van” himself to discuss building and flying the RV-7’s big brother -- the RV-14 -- is very exciting and means a lot to me! 1st October marks an iconic day for the history of High Speed Rail. On this day, worlds first HSR (known as Shinkansen in Japan) began its operations between Tokyo & Osaka in Japan in 1964. Since its inception, Bullet Train has transformed the cities of Japan and their identities. A research report titled “30 Years of High-Speed Railways: Features and Economic and Social Effects of the Shinkansen” by Hiroshi Okada, estimates that the economic impact from the Shinkansen train network, based on the time saved from faster travel, is approximately ¥500 billion ($4.8 billion USD) per year. The train has helped in expanding mobility, pulling people from rural areas to urban areas. Businesses converged around the major stops as a growing emphasis on productivity swept across Japan.
