Este martes 22 de septiembre, a las 10:30 hrs. de Chile Continental, se produce el #equinoccio de primavera para el hemisferio sur. Este fenómeno astronómico marca el inicio de dicha estación para nuestra latitud y que corresponde al momento en que el sol parece moverse sobre el Ecuador de la Tierra y cruzarlo (fig. 3). Esto causa que el día y la noche duren aproximadamente lo mismo en todo el planeta (fig. 2). De hecho, por eso es que se denomina equinoccio (del latín “aequus nocte”, es decir, “noche igual”). En un equinoccio, ambos hemisferios reciben la misma cantidad de luz. (fig. 1). Para nosotros, los días empezarán a tener más horas de iluminación que de oscuridad (que ya se venían haciendo más largos desde el solsticio de invierno en junio). Además, veremos que cada día el sol avanzará un poco más hacia el sur en su salida y su puesta, siguiendo un movimiento aparente por el cielo, hasta llegar a un máximo en nuestro solsticio de verano. Las estaciones se suceden unas a otras debido a la inclinación del eje terrestre de 23°5’ respecto al plano de la eclíptica, generando dos equinoccios y dos solsticios cada año (fig. 4). Durante los equinoccios se observa: - El límite entre el día y la noche, o sea, entre la zona iluminada y la oscura de la Tierra, sigue un trayecto perpendicular a la línea del Ecuador y pasa por ambos polos. - El sol sale por el este y se pone por el oeste para todos los observadores terrestres. - Para quienes estén con exactitud sobre la línea del Ecuador, el sol alcanza el cenit (el punto localizado directamente sobre sus cabezas) al mediodía, momento en que no se proyectan sombras (fig. 5). - Para quienes se encuentren en alguno de los polos, el sol se mueve todo el día por el horizonte. Esto implica una luminosidad parecida a la del amanecer durante 24 horas (fig. 6). - Para quienes vivimos en una latitud entre el Ecuador y algún polo, el sol alcanza su punto más alto a una altura que corresponde al paralelo del lugar, 33° para Valparaíso (fig. 7). @giorgialupi and team have created a series of animated data visualizations for the 5th anniversary of @theglobalgoals for Sustainable Development, the blueprint for a better and more sustainable future outlined by the @unitednations in 2015 and agreed to by 193 countries. The 17 life-changing goals address areas of importance to humanity and the planet such as reducing poverty and inequality, improving education and healthcare, combating climate change, ensuring clean water and sanitation, and sourcing renewable energy. . The data visualizations highlight the Global Goals in 10 surprising facts that hopefully inspire people to take action. The campaign launches today with the Global Goals Day of Factivism and emphasizes the importance of accurate data to fully understand the state of the world today and the progress that still needs to be made. . Giorgia and her team worked on the series with #ProjectEveryone, the non-profit communications agency that is dedicated to advancing the Global Goals. The Pentagram designers developed the overall concept and framework for the system, which mixes data, animation and collages to create a sense of urgency and to illuminate the subjects in a way that engages the emotions of viewers. . The team conducted research to find an appropriate and quantifiable data set for each visualization drawn from SDGs Today, a new data platform developed by the Sustainable Development Solutions Network in partnership with @esri and @insidenatgeo. .
