I questioned my sanity that morning two weeks ago. For someone who is scared of open water it wasn’t easy to jump on a paddle board and head out to sea. But, I really wanted to battle that fear and tick it off my 2020 vision board, cause let’s face it not much is being ticked off this year! So with a little moral support I swallowed my pride and accepted I was undoubtedly going fall in! The JET Team has been working hard all summer. We’ve had to scale down the size of the team and change the format of our trainings thanks to COVID-19, but the dedication to early morning practices didn’t disappear! We have been having an absolute BLAST with the @horizon_hobby React 17” boats! Using the small yet incredibly powerful @insta360 go camera mounted on a very sketchy vertical mount worked better then anticipated too! Definitely have to figure out how to keep the water off the lense, but I think for a first try it worked pretty well! Since moving to Canada, I have dreamed about going on an overnight canoeing trip. While that hasn’t happened yet, we had our first portage experience on our @redpaddleco iSUPs this weekend. It was a total of 3 lakes, 2 portages each way and 18km in just under 6 hours. The feeling of roaming freely in protected waters that can only be accessed by canoe or SUP is unbelievable... Seeing animals in their natural habitat like bears, moose, bobcats and a variety of birds is so special. We are getting ready to remove our training wheels and head out on our first SUP overnight expedition this upcoming weekend. ОПРАВДАНЫ ЛИ РИСКИ?🧐 Через 3 дня мне предстоит участие в соревнованиях @zavidovosupchallenge! Дистанция 43км, настоящий марафон, 1 обязательный пит-стоп. При лучшем раскладе это около 6 часов!!!! активной гребли! При этом к субботе обещают ветра, это усложнит прохождение, на открытой акватории возможна волна до 1 метра высотой 😱 Честно...очень переживаю😰! После небольшого перерыва, болезни, антибиотиков, и до сих пор далеко не 💯% слышащие уши, общее состояние организма на тренировках заставляют задуматься о многом! Но, как мне сегодня сказал один прекрасный человек- если женщина решила, ее хоть под 100замков закрой, она это сделает!!))))) Поэтому!)) Я точно поеду!!, буду участвовать и постараюсь сделать лучшее из возможного! What a weekend! Who knew the Low Country Boil Paddle Race would turn in to the biggest race of the year. Congrats and HUGE Mahalo to @jamrmd, @spineandsportmd @outsidehiltonhead and all the organizers and especially the volunteers that made pulling off this event under these circumstances not only possible, but successful and super fun! 150 racers hit skull creek for a challenging course around the marshes. Congrats and Thank you to everyone for coming out to play! I’m not in to everyone wearing masks, but I am in to people showing up and doing whats necessary to set the example and prove we are ready to move forward with our sport and our lives. It was so great to see everyone especially my @sicmaui ohana who came out in full force. It felt amazing to race, (though the lack of training certainly was felt.🥵) Thank you to @sicmaui @blackprojectsup @the_good_inside for keeping me ready to rock and roll. Программа, этого праздника, включает в себя карнавальную часть ( красивые и креативные наряды приветствуются) и две спортивные части ( для любителей и профессионалов) У вас ещё есть возможность забронировать места, доски и принять участие в этом событие! ⠀ Регистрация участников заканчивается 16го сентября, а количество свободных досок уменьшается с каждым часом, в нашей школе @sup_outdoor осталось всего 5 штук!!! ТОРОПИТЕСЬ. ⠀ И хотелось бы ответить на некоторые F.A.Q, которые мы получаем от наших друзей. 1) На территории будет установлен шатёр нашей школы @sup_outdoor, там вы сможете забрать оборудование и оставить свои личные вещи. Hollywood residents are enjoying the new beach rules ordinance passed on July 1st, thanks to our dedicated activists. Hollywood Ocean Rescue used to ban surfing and paddling from 89% of the beach, and if they dared paddle by those restricted zones, they made paddlers stay over 300 YARDS from the shore with the boats and jet skis. The ordinance that passed on July 1st is safer, and allows more enjoyment of the water. The surfing area has increased from 800 yards to almost 1.5 miles. The paddling area has increased from 250 yards to 3 miles. They can also paddle anywhere before 10 AM. They can paddle anywhere after 5 PM. The restricted zone (Madison St to Liberty St) is from 10-5, and in that restricted zone, they are only forced 100 yards from shore instead of 300 yards from shore. It’s still silly, but it’s a big improvement. Taking my own own advice and went on a little adventure last week. I paddleboarded 50 miles along the River Wye through many many rapids and wild camped, (Im ofically hooked to paddling rapids now). Then headed in to the woods on a solo mission in North Wales exploring the wilderness and hidden caves. Next I headed to Snowdonia to catch up with friends, hike mountains, wild swim and paddleboard. .What a stellar vacation with an amazing human being. I was lucky enough to do @so_long_marianne’s home visit as a volunteer for @redemptionpaws back in December. We hit it off immediately, realizing we are twin souls. We were immediate besties. A short 8 months later, and we’re vacationing in Prince Edward County. SUPing, surfing, HIIT Pilates every am, wineries daily, eating well (not really, but a nice treat for us both), alpaca ranches and lavender farms, drank our weight in wine daily, beach days every day, and we brought our puppies. I even got to reconnect with two old friends and beautiful souls from high school who I haven’t seen in 20 years, @countyfranks and @dillzillah. I haven’t vacationed or ‘travelled’ with anyone in about 10 years; love solo travel and am very much a lone wolf. If it wasnt for her, I would never have had this vacation. This stellar lady has changed the way I look at a ton of things, has been an incredibly present and supportive friend, and is cool af. I’m so grateful to have met you and how close we’ve become. Who says it’s hard to make friends over 40. Sometimes the best connections you have are friendships, not romantic. We had the pleasure to host 12 amazing ladies who took time out to disconnect from their everyday lives and were transported back to nature to reset their mind, body and souls. We had Hatha yoga, a nature walk, an epic SUP journey along the Tavy with a delicious picnic lunch, meditation, laughter trying out new SUP skills, more yoga and time to reflect on the fun and fantastic company with a hearty BBQ. After spending many hours on land working through our Teacher Manuals, we were ready to get on the water!!! We ended our day with a beautiful tour of the French Broad River followed by practicing our rescue skills!! I can attest that if you take a class with any of these women, they will be able to rescue you in an emergency situation! It shouldnt be a surprise that I love nature since I spend so much time trying to make it better, cleaner and enjoying the crap out of it. I surround myself with like-minded people and support organisations that share these ideals. I was VERY happy to learn about a new company opening up in the Northern Beaches on August 1, that shares the love for all of my favourite things. @pittwater.eco.adventures takes a stand with standup paddle boards to never walk, swim or paddle past plastic. They will be offering outdoor yoga, snorkel sessions, SUP cleanups other #ecofriendly activities. They even donate 10% of their profits to a not-for-profit. Such a great thing to do for the community. I cant wait to go hunting for trash on the water with this lovely group.
