Evelina Tănasie @evelinadesign.poet West University of Timișoara The concept develops around the drama, anxiety and identification with the imagination, ideas also found in Schopenhauer and materialized in this BA project, through strong contrasts between volumes, textures and colors. These are visually associated with the aesthetics of the 80s, illustrated by the spectacular clothing creations of Thierry Mugler and the enigmatic image of the singer Grace Jones. Between the key design elements, tensions and polarity relations are created: the volume of the shoulders, of the sleeves and the highlighted waist, the covering of the body by layering the symmetrical and asymmetrical pieces, the use of metallic elements. The result is a dramatic collection, outlining the aesthetics of a mysterious, polychronic character. Clothing becomes the vehicle of transmission and the symbol of inner drama, because the body has always interfered with aspects related to the emotional dimension, being an extension of the soul. - @fashionclassof2020 on Instagram

The exact origins of the Mexican-American term “Pachuco” are hard to pin down, but one of the most famous Pachucos in history would have to be Tin Tan. Today’s animated Doodle celebrates the actor, singer, and comedian who got his start in the nightclubs of Ciudad Juarez, just south of the Rio Grande, and went on to redefine a misunderstood youth culture. Born in Mexico City on this day in 1915, Germán Genaro Cipriano Gómez Valdés de Castillo, also known as Tin Tan, helped to popularize the Mexican-American Pachuco. Known for their streetwise swagger and “zoot suits,” Tin Tan’s Pachuco characters were a variation on the “tramp” often portrayed by Mexican film actor Cantinflas. Often accompanied by Marcelo Chávez on guitar, Tin Tan appeared alongside the actress Famie Kaufman, also known as Vitola, though legend has it that he kissed more leading ladies than any actor in history. His performance in films like the musical comedy Calabacitas Tiernas helped popularize the dialect known as caló, a mixture of Spanish and English spoken along the border. Besides appearing in more than 100 films, Tin Tan also recorded 11 records and voiced beloved Disney characters like Baloo in The Jungle Book and Cat OMalley in The Aristocats. Though he reportedly turned down The Beatles’ invitation to appear on the cover of Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band, Tin Tan was honored by the Asociación de Actores de México. His legacy lives on in a statue on Génova Street in Mexico City’s Zona Rosa, standing as a symbol of pride in Mexico’s cultural heritage. Today, with a heavy heart, I cleared out my dressing room space at Wicked. Lots of things went in the bin, lots of things came home with me. Running around that building, I realised just how much that job meant to me, still means to me. It was my dream job, the career ‘goal’ that I had set so high but somehow managed to attain. It almost feels like that chapter has closed and I guess, in a way, it has. But we will be back on the stage again one day. Little amazing things are happening all over the place with theatre and we can only hope this is a sign of things to come. But for now, I’m going to appreciate the little things and eat my dinner from a plate tonight, with my husband.
