Hello, friends. I hope that all of you are healthy & safe as our world begins to open up a bit while this pandemic rages on. First of all, THANK YOU to everyone who purchased gift cards, sent messages of support, and showed us love since March! We are so honored to be a part of your lives here in the Valley. As many of you know, we left the Downtown Allentown Market. When COVID-19 hit, it became clear that our business model was not a good fit there, and we felt the best way to preserve the integrity of our brand was to leave. Since then, we looked for alternative kitchen space to keep producing for our other markets, but ultimately, we decided to hit the pause button for now. The reality is that we were able to come out of this in the black, but trying to open up a new location in this current climate would almost certainly put us in the red, causing us to likely close for good. Our intention is to reopen in a new Lehigh Valley location when it makes fiscal sense for us to do so. The food industry runs on small margins, and we want to make decisions now that allow you to “taste the love” well into the future. We appreciate all of your continued support! Keep up with us here for updates, as well as more food tutorials from our home “quarantine kitchen”. We want to open up stronger, better, and as an integral part of the beautiful small business community here in the Valley. 2010 - 2011: Después de unir las piezas de 2 bandas extintas, 5 personas se juntaron y empezaron a componer e interpretar 001, las 3 primeras canciones de la banda que salieron a la luz en un maxi-sencillo con un viejo peluche en la portada. Tocamos en vivo por primera vez un sábado 17 de diciembre de 2010 en una esquina de un lugar llamado Este Café, en una ciudad que varios días después nos vio sentar en el césped de una casa en Puembo para cerrar el año y para hablar de lo que sería nuestro primer álbum, un trabajo que obtuvo su nombre de las explosiones de rabia repentina y del estrés laboral. Para Amok & Burnout habíamos cambiado un poco esa inocente formación con la que empezamos, invertimos casi todo nuestro dinero para grabar un puñado de canciones rentando los mejores instrumentos del país. Gn 25:23 forma parte de ese primer experimento, creemos que es una de las canciones más tristes que hemos escrito; de cierta forma, sus más de 3 minutos hablan del cambio generacional, del egoísmo y de los sueños rotos. Ahora, 9 años después, nos encanta que empecemos este viaje con la versión de @fryturama para este tema, una de nuestras bandas favoritas, integrada por 2 bellas personas que llenaron de luz y hermosos loops a un tema que cada vez que lo escuchábamos nos desgarraba un poco con su nostalgia y nos reencontraba con aquella juventud idealista de nuestros inicios. Hoy empezamos un viaje de 10 años que terminará con un álbum de reversiones de nuestros temas hecho íntegramente por un montón de bandas que hemos llegado a conocer en nuestros viajes y que ahora consideramos nuestrxs amigxs. I was unsure of how I could do my part in using my privilege to contribute to Black Lives Matter. We should all feel a duty and responsibility to educate ourselves about black history and oppression, especially as consumers of black culture. I can’t help financially, and do not have any political power, but I can channel my creative intellect into something positive. To help raise the voices and stories of black victims who have suffered in the hands of white supremacy and uplift the words of the black community. ⠀ ⠀ We must stand with the black community in demand for justice. Justice for anyone who has ever been racially profiled or abused. Anyone who has lost someone as a result of ignorance and an abuse of privilege/power. Justice for the murderers who still walk free today, because a white society deems their cause plausible, and because they are simply not black. Justice for those who were simply trying to live their lives, but couldn’t on account of their skin colour. ⠀ ⠀ So I ask of my non-black friends, to listen, to educate, to protest. Take 5 minutes out of your day to sign several petitions. Take another 10 to watch a video on black oppression. Or even hours to march with your black brothers and sisters in the fight for their freedom and their lives. COVERGIRL,IRL (1/2): Finally got around to drop some work from the past year. This one was a quick design/animation job from last December done with @kleinmania @digitaldebz and @embergerking. With the opening their first flagship store, customers could finally interact with Covergirl’s products in real life (IRL), which coincidentally, is the last three letters of their brand name. We created a social and citywide out of home campaign that built hype and drove traffic to its Times Square debut. Final Results. As I learn, you learn. As you grow, we grow.☀️🏁 Four weeks flew by so quickly because I set a clear goal and intention for the month. I consciously decided what I wanted to achieve, then planned my lifestyle around my target. This challenge forced me to implement the SMART goal setting principles. Below is how I used a simple but effective tool to help me achieve my results. Specific - Set a clear goal and target: Reduce Body fat under 10%. Measurable - Baseline Dexa scan was 10.9% (11 KG Fat Mass). The success measure was simple: 10% - Success ✅ 10% - Learning 📚 Achievable - reduction of 1% is achievable within four weeks, BUT the challenge was to complete the reduction in a manageable way, so lifestyle and quality of living was maintained. Realistic - My baseline stats, current lifestyle habits and daily routine was set up for success and made the challenge to get to my goal realistic. Time-Bound - Four-week deadline with weekly check-in videos with @jamescromiemedia ensured the goal had parameters in place to hold me accountable to achieving my goals. Having a set due date also allowed me to project forward what I could get done within that time, what roadblocks that may be in the way and then work backwards to create the plan of attack for success. My grandma was a devout Christian. Her lullabies were old church hymns and her bed time stories were about Noah’s ark and David’s victory over Goliath. And she made excellent apple pie. Every time I visited her, along with the pie, she would give me a tiny piece of paper and on it would be written about a gift from God. Flowers. Love. Family. I would then make a roll of that paper and drop it into a wine bottle after going home, just as she had told me to do since I was a kid. Once, on such piece of paper was written- CONSCIENCE. She looked at me and said, “A clean conscience is the best pillow my dear.” With wide eyes, pointing towards my heart she continued, “Never do anything that would trouble your conscience. Listen to it. Always.” She died after a month. I was 12. She was everything. Old. Sparkling. Memorable. Sometimes, it takes a tiny moment of guilt to understand that your conscience is troubled. Whereas sometimes, it takes years to realise that you have been travelling in the dark all the while and haven’t been heeding the warning signs your conscience has been sending. And by the time you do realise, it’s too much damage. Just the way it happened with me today. It all started 2 weeks after my wedding. I was on my period and he didn’t bother when I said ‘no’. I bled horribly that day, for 4 days after, and 10 years from then. My conscience kept posting signs of trouble. Rape. Abuse. Toxicity. I never heeded them because I was raised believing that sex is a husband’s right and when he exercises it with or without the wife’s consent, it’s still sex and never rape. Or maybe, I never heeded those signs and walked out because I didn’t have the courage to. What would everyone think? I tolerated. I don’t know what snapped inside me today though. He came home late yesterday. Drunk. Shaking. Smelly. My son was off to school and the first thing he did after he got up was grab me from behind. He lifted me into his arms. I was wriggling but he won’t put me down. He pinned me to the bed, lay on me and started smelling me. “Only for a few minutes. I’ll be done in no time”, he was saying. I lost it. I remember the night after the Supreme Court upheld the Muslim ban, I cried. It didn’t much affect my life, it certainly didn’t endanger it, but in that moment I felt like the White House and the court had decreed that I was just a little less human than everyone else—that my life had less value because of the color of my skin or the country of my birth. So many of us feel this way—that our lives are worth less, that they are somehow disposable—all the time. To be a person of color, to be an immigrant, to be a woman, to be gay, to be trans, any of it is to move through the world in a body that can never truly rest or feel totally safe. I can’t feel the pain of Black Americans in its totality and complexity. I’m not haunted by 400 years of enshrined cultural and institutional injustice. I can’t know what it’s like to watch my brothers and sisters be killed with impunity again and again and again and again and again, often by the very people who made a vow to protect our communities. But I can know what it’s like to feel undervalued or dehumanized or afraid, and I can understand that Black Americans feel that pain in incalculable orders of magnitude. And if I can know for a day what it feels like to be told my life is worth less, then I can’t deny Black Americans the trauma of being told that day after day for the entire history of the country they call home. I can’t fight for my own dignity but not fight for the dignity of Black Americans. I know what my life is worth: precisely the value of a human life. I know my life matters. We should all know our lives matter. So when we say #BlackLivesMatter, we mean Black lives matter. And we mean Black lives, specifically, matter. And we say it because it has to keep being said. It’s not such a hard fucking concept. To feign that it is means to be willfully ignorant, to refuse to educate and check yourself, to avoid having skin in a game that’s killing people around you. The sadness and frustration and anger on display this week is a response to those in power who not only refuse to listen, but who still actively deny Black people their rights as human beings. The original typeface BRUSCO, co-created together with @luis_bandovas is born from the brand’s core values. It is strong, heavy and curvilinear. Twirls from the Atlantic shore and broad volumes of the ocean are represented in the contrasting shapes of letters reminiscing the sharp feeling of waves hitting and water whirling around. Much like surfing in the Atlantic, BRUSCO Display Type is harsh and severe. This is portrayed throughout the characters in jagged angles and straight / curvy cuts, namely in the “R”, “B” and “K.” The bulky serifs remind of harpoons and fishing hooks, resulting in a singular body type. The “B” in BRUSCO summarises the brand’s motto when applied as a monogram. This typeset, composed of 32 letters plus numbers and punctuation is applied to various brand expressions: packaging, products and other supports.
