This lockdown era has given me the chance to reevaluate my health. I used to view working out as a chore, taking vitamins as an annoyance & eating a healthy, balanced diet as not fulfilling. After months of being reminded that health & life are gifts, I re-evaluated my mindset & am starting to make some changes in my lifestyle. I now view working out as a privilege, taking my vitamins as necessary & eating healthy as a creative opportunity. I don’t normally rant on here, but for so long I viewed discussions about health as not exciting & I could not have been more wrong. So let’s all create a safer environment for our families, our coworkers & our neighbors by taking care of ourselves. And yes, we can still eat pizza & pasta sometimes. I’ve felt really frustrated with my body lately for not just getting freaking pregnant already. 🙃 It’s hard not to feel at odds with my own body when I feel like it’s limiting me from what I want so much right now! And it’s hard not to compare with those who seem to get pregnant so easily. But the frustration has led me to need to consciously ground myself with exercise and rest and appreciation for what my body DOES do for me every day. New covid protocol- mom has to wait in the car during the orthodontist appointments. We’re comfortable on the side of the lens no one sees. People follow our feeds and could recognize our families walking down the street, yet may not be able to identify the mom or wife that goes with them and for whatever reason, we struggle to include ourselves in the frame. So here we are and we’re banding together to remind each other we need to be in there too; that our kids and husbands and partners and pets aren’t the only ones who need to be seen in the frame. Lunch Break Moment to recognize that today is National Working Parents Day — paying tribute to all the parents out there who work hard to provide for their families—and to try keep them from failing during distance learning too! Although I’ve always worked full time as a Mom, there were years when my kids were very young that I was working up to 60 hours a week. I mourn for the time I lost and committed myself around 2016 to NEVER taking on more than 40ish hours a week on a regular basis while they are under 18, to setting boundaries around my work habits and hours (No email on family outings/meals/conversations). My Favorite Textbooks through Medical School (so far) 📚 Now that I’m in 4th year 🤯, I made a list of books I’ve found to be very useful in the first phase of med school (preclinical), but keep in mind these are my personal preferences!! 😌They might work for you, and if they don’t feel free to explore more options!! 𝗣𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆- 𝘓𝘪𝘱𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘰𝘵𝘵 𝘐𝘭𝘭𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘙𝘦𝘷𝘪𝘦𝘸𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘗𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘮𝘢𝘤𝘰𝘭𝘰𝘨𝘺! Absolutely loved it, tried my best to read it cover to cover! Katzung is also an option but I found it to be too long (though everyone says it covers everythinggg you will need). Absolutely amazing textbook, plan on finishing it really soon! 𝗠𝗶𝗰𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗶𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆- 𝘊𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭 𝘔𝘪𝘤𝘳𝘰𝘣𝘪𝘰𝘭𝘰𝘨𝘺 𝘔𝘢𝘥𝘦 𝘙𝘪𝘥𝘪𝘤𝘶𝘭𝘰𝘶𝘴𝘭𝘺 𝘚𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘭𝘦! this plus Sketchy will make you a microbio master 𝗣𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆- 𝘗𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘮𝘢! Tried to do Robbins, couldn’t finish it, but 𝘙𝘰𝘣𝘣𝘪𝘯𝘴 is extremely good too! So if you have the time (and energy) definitely try to do that first! 𝗜𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆- 𝘊𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘶𝘭𝘢𝘳 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘔𝘰𝘭𝘦𝘤𝘶𝘭𝘢𝘳 𝘐𝘮𝘮𝘶𝘯𝘰𝘭𝘰𝘨𝘺 by Abul K. Abbas is probably my favorite med school book ever. I read it cover to cover. 𝗣𝗵𝘆𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆- 𝘗𝘩𝘺𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘭𝘰𝘨𝘺 𝘣𝘺 𝘊𝘰𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘻𝘰 is the BEST! But at the same time it’s huge. If you’re short on time do 𝘉𝘙𝘚 𝘗𝘩𝘺𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘭𝘰𝘨𝘺 instead, it is also written by Costanzo and is absolutely amazing. All this past month, Hoovie host Farrell Segall has been touring his STEAMtruck all across the interior of British Columbia, hosting pop-up drive-in movies in tiny towns for folks who’ve been holed up on their own since the pandemic forced us to be apart. But this woman deserves to be celebrated, not just today on her birthday, but every single day. She’s such a hard worker and does the most each and every day to make sure that she’s not only taking care of, inspiring, and being a great role model for her students at her main job as an athletic trainer, but building her business as a personal trainer and doing a damn good job at it. Long days, little sleep, barely eating at times and still manages to get out of bed in the morning, get a workout in, and is ready to attack the day (sometimes with a little push from yours truly 😉) Since we’ve been together, she has shown me so much patience, love, understanding and makes me want to be a better man not only for her, but for myself and my career and that’s rare in this day and age. #hosted . We checked out @zionwildflower in Utah for my 31st birthday! 🤩 (2.5 hours away from Vegas) This resort offers “glamping”, the new way to go camping. They have different options depending on what you’d be comfortable with. They have wagons, tents or you can choose a bungalow. All include actual bathrooms no matter what you choose. We chose a bungalow because I need electricity for my CPAP machine, we also love the AC because that’s so convenient. They come with their own small porches with rocking chairs and the views from all of them are phenomenal, you are surrounded by Mountain View’s that will take your breath away. They come with a k-cup machine loaded with cups, microwave, mini fridge with a good size shower that will leave you thinking, damn camping is fun. 🙌🏼😂 . There’s various outdoor yard activities you can choose from like cornhole, jenga. spike ball, ping pong, and you can even grab a complimentary bike. They had bikes for all ages and some dual seat bikes, you just go grab what you’d like to use and off you go. . First night from 8pm-10pm you’ll go to the office and pick up your complimentary s’mores kit for the fire pit. They also have a BBQ food truck on the weekends as well from 7-10pm! The office has ice pops, ice, drinks and snacks for purchase. . We really enjoyed seeing all the kids playing like the olden days... so simple and no electronics! During our stay I saw kids painting rocks (I found a rock check my last photo!) dancing, playing various sports and some even brought their remote control cars to play in the dirt with. Just felt like a nice break from the chaos big cities bring. This would be such a cool place to have for a big family reunion or even to spend the holidays here and set up a small cute tree! .
