New DIY mailbox. I started by creating a double post base out of pressure treated lumber. Cedar slats stained with Australian timber oil for the sides and front. Countersunk holes for screws which I intended to fill with a cedar sawdust/wood glue mixture but decided the industrial look was nice and also keeping screws exposed makes it easier to remove boards years down the road should need be. - @ksrhoads on Instagram

Bit more chrome ⚡️ finished these bar stools off with a solid black walnut seat top. With designs like this, where I’ve got an idea in my head but aren’t too sure on how dimensions and proportions are going to work out, I’ll usually just plough straight in and have a go, making it up as I go along. Where to begin. I traded a tiny cutting board for the top piece earlier this year. I assume it was a drop piece from a larger live edge table, but I have no idea. I actually started to seal the top months ago and screwed it up by applying too heavy of coats. Then I hurt my thumb and the whole thing got back burnered. Last week I put it on the router sled and started over from bare wood. And then I started sanding and oiling. And then I oiled some more. There’s a metric shit ton of oil on this thing, but man did it turn out nice. As far as the base, I wasn’t initially sure what I wanted to do, but I knew I didn’t want to go with a conventional look. It needed to be sturdy and stable from all angles which was a bit tricky with the asymmetrical shape of the top. I ended up with two equal tripods. This thing is very stable. I painstakingly tested it before I permanently fixed everything. I picture it as an end table next to a comfortable reading chair in a household with no small children. Not surprisingly, I get a lot of requests for desks these days and this one was fun build. Reclaimed oak ceiling joists from a Connecticut barn make up the top and printer shelf. It is all finished with Liberty On the Hudson’s Golden Spike Railroad Varnish, a new to me oil varnish blend. Brushed and lacquered black pipe for the legs. I’ve been working on this board off and on for months. Finally got it done and I’m very happy with the final result. It’s for one of my very best friends who doesn’t waste time with social media, so I can’t tag him here. Another sliced done! This one fought me every step of the way, but I’m really happy with the end result. 15n20 and 1095, forge finished spine, with a Red Gum and G10 handle. Just cant get enough of this table! recently, i poured an epoxy resin coffee table for @jeffgodwin17 which began as a black walnut slab and finished as one incredible table! I poured about 1.75 gallons of clear bartop epoxy with an ocean blue marblers dye to make the water ribbon effect. Then hand sanded smooth, naturally oiled, and polished with an orange oil and beeswax compound for lasting shine. Complete with a matching remote/trinket box and set of matching 5x coasters. Ohh, and just to prove the absolute beauty of this table, these pictures are not edited whatsoever. no filters, nothing. What you see is what you get. Axe Edge Maintenance: This Sport Utility double-bit axe was used to free-up a splitting wedge, that was stuck inside of an Oak round, with some large limb-knots. The axe was sacrificed for the greater good, to keep the work-flow moving along. :) Here are some photos showing the work progression, mostly using a draw-file technique to take out the damage, set the bevel, and bring back the edge. Before and After pictures of our first updates to the outdoor patio! Back in pre-Covid days, my plan was to open a patio in the back this time of the year (ya know, once it wasnt 6000 degrees outside) and initially thought itd be fun to launch it around our one year anniversary on October 5. Well, Covid had other plans and upon reopening in June, I rushed to get something- anything- outdoors so that people would feel comfortable coming back to Crafts & Drafts. I used some credit card points to purchase six picnic tables and umbrellas, threw them out there, and told myself Id come back to make it pretty later. Well, that time is NOW and over the next few weeks, this thrown together patio is going to start looking like it always was supposed to. In true Crafts & Drafts style, itll still be scrappy and put together on a small budget, but I am very excited to finally turn my attention to it and give it some love. When we started building the studio, there were 2 big doug firs encroaching on the roof of the studio that had to be cut down. The trees were old and while there was a lot of good wood in them, apparently they weren’t suitable to sell for lumber and we were advised to discard them. We knew that we would need a lot of lumber for the finish work on the studio, and we worked it out that if we had a sawyer come out to the property with a portable mill and cut up the trees into rough lumber, it would be just a little more expensive than buying the lumber for the finish work. But for some reason it felt worth it. We ended up with way more lumber than we would need and all of it had to be cut to size and planed multiple times and it gave me so much respect for what goes into a board. After the finish work was done, I built all the acoustic treatment out of this excess wood and as I learn and as I’ve needed to add and change the treatments, I’ve gotten ever so slightly better at making things. I had never really built anything before starting the studio. I’m particularly proud of this batch. 12 new panels made starting with just 2 giant boards. They aren’t art but I like how clean they turned out! And I love that the sound is being treated inside the studio by the trees that had been growing just outside the studio. AVAILABLE! This is piece 4 out of 5 from a very special pecan tree. 3 pieces have already found new homes. This grain pattern is unlike any I’ve seen so far from working with pecan. It’s incredible mesmerizing to stare at and has some beautiful striking spalting(which are the small black lines you see throughout the piece. It was fungus in the tree) I filled the large cracks( you can see the original condition in last picture) with fiberglass and a red pigment to transmute they former imperfection into a aesthetic focal point to draw your eyes to it rather than try to hide it.
