MAC Miss Influencer Challenge Day 6: My role model and future goals! It’s no surprise that my role model is my mom! Raising me as a single parent was challenging at times but I feel I am a stronger woman as a result. Even though we’re far apart now, I’m happy knowing she is one phone call or a text away when I need her. I hope to continue to make her proud in my endeavors! ❤️ As for future goals, I have so many! Through the amazing tuition support through The Walt Disney Company with Disney Aspire, I am hoping to attend the University of Florida or the University of Central Florida for my Master’s in Public Relations or Tourism Management. I’m realistic about my future career goals in our current climate so I would like to one day move into an operational leadership position within transportation, although my ultimate dream job is to work in communications or public affairs for Disney. I am also working to one day earn the Gold Presidential Volunteer Service Award. I’ve achieved the Bronze award level for 2019 and I am determined to reach gold! Attraction is based on the frequency of our expression. Where you at? Why can we look back and say wow I was there and I didn’t hold back and I created the best works around me. All of your inspiring stories inspired me to share mine. While my childhood beginnings sound commonplace to most Asians, I want to share how I live a life fulfilling my parents wishes and my own aspirations and how covid-19 impacted my world. I have loved drawing since I was a child. I drew all the time in school and like most middle class Chinese children, I had plenty of school - regular school, Chinese school, prep school, grad school, etc. Because of strict parents, I didnt have many games or friends and so spent most of my time outside of school drawing too. My parents, my elders, and eventually my parents-in-law, all looked at art as a hobby, not a career, and would repeatedly steer me away from it. I developed feelings of guilt and lost confidence as an artist, so I pursued something more practical - medicine. Still, I created art on and off throughout my life, even through the rigorous curriculum of graduate school, but didnt truly have time to try to improve until I passed my boards. While searching for jobs, I began taking commissions. One thing led to another and soon I was establishing an online presence, attending my first convention as an artist, and creating my own online shop. All the while working as a fulltime PA. The feelings of weakness and uselessness of being an artist were slowly eaten away by the small but steady growing success of my work and the undying support of my husband. But everything changed in 2020. I was pregnant since the end of 2019 and was working a high risk front line job in urgent care when covid-19 began seeping into the states. My pregnancy was high risk, but my job did not have any protocols in place to protect pregnant women, even high risk women. It’s a joy to light this canvas! . Fun Facts? 🤔: I was raised in San Juan Puerto Rico before moving to NY at 18 in ’84 to begin my career in our industry. It began at the ROXY in NYC and followed with a stint in the circus that allowed me to travel throughout the Midwest before winter quartering in Nashville, TN where we worked at the Opryland. On a visit to my brother in East Haddam, CT I discovered Goodspeed Opera House which ultimately cemented my direction in lighting. I had an amazing mentor, Jay W. Hilton, who still resides there today. The jump to DC was facilitated by LD Allen Lee Hughes whom I befriended at Goodspeed. He connected me with the ME at Arena Stage who was looking for an Assistant Electrician. After 3 years at Arena, I moved to Washington Ballet as their ME and during that time I met my partner in life. After freelancing for a few years, I met Atmosphere’s founder Jay Snyder and his partner and the rest is history! . I love being an actor. I love the theatre. And I LOVE costumes, wigs, and makeup. Many people who see me on stage first mistakenly think I am somehow “cool,” but this is all the work of the amazing designers with whom I’ve had the good fortune to collaborate. Here are but a few of my favorite pieces (listed below). There are 50+ costume shops in New York City employing hundreds of people, and they are on the brink of permanent closure. These shops, and arts workers around the country, need us to take action now. The Arts and Culture Industry adds $877 billion to the US economy and is seeking just 5% of that back in relief funding from Congress. The actors are the public faces and behind them are hundreds of specialists, from tailors to carpenters, sound mixers, ushers and roadies — over 5.1 million people in all 60 states are employed in the Arts. Suddenly, I began to re-read fairy tales, since childhood I didnt touch them. I don’t remember the plots, many details are “new” to me, and new associations come with them. Many tales in general are not childish at all, although this is hardly news to anyone. I usually do analysis of works in a close friendly company, but sometimes I can share something here too 🙂 Alice in Wonderland has always inspired me, with its characters and such a hooligan absurdity. I decided to make an art, though I don’t even know how many I have on this topic, but this one is clearly not the last! Every time I shoot something from Alice’s world, its a whole story with a bunch of backstages 😃 Animated it a little, so it looks more interesting, by the way it’s not difficult at all if you use After Effects, I’ll can record a video with an explanation if its interesting for you. So we came to the point, I want to ask you what would be interesting for you to read. I want to know what my favorite audience is interested in, I have a lot of fun backstage stories, all sorts of tricks on the set, the techniques in processing, simple ones and more complicated, even in the animation I try a bit. Or maybe youre interested in what lives inside of me (well, except for the organs 😅), what the artist is sad about, where to look for the inspiration, what are the difficulties of working on freelance and how do I even earn money? Or can we philosophize about the sense of life and questions of the universe? Yes, Im a God damn fount of experience! 😃 Im usually not able to shut up in a conversation, but when I sit down to write, I don’t know what to write about. Help me to fix this, ask questions, write about what is interesting to know, and I will write about this in the following posts 😉 . . . It’s hard to believe it’s been a full year since we reopened our beautiful park to the public, after a nearly four-year hiatus. Storm damage and unprecedented flooding closed our park in October 2015. It took years to rebuild, but with the help of Berkeley County leadership and staff, we reopened better than before! Reopening day, on April 13, 2019, was a magical one filled with lifelong memories and incredible support from the County and community. Nearly 3,000 people came out to celebrate the special event. But the support didn’t end there; Cypress Gardens continued to draw in a record-setting number of visitors in the weeks and months that followed. Even though the park hasn’t seen visitors the past few weeks, due to closing to the public because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the park has still seen more than 93,000 visitors in the past year. That number is approximately 43,000 more visitors than Cypress Gardens witnessed on an annual basis before closing in fall of 2015. One thing is for certain--the park and community have weathered many storms together, and we know we will emerge stronger, together, from this additional setback of COVID-19. “We are incredibly thankful for the community’s support over the last year. It has been absolutely amazing and we cannot wait to reopen once this pandemic is over. Were very proud to announce the Esoteric 2021 festival theme Phantasia! 🤩 After being submerged in the depths of the ocean embarking on a journey for ancient ruins, caves and lost treasure, the next chapter of our epic adventure is taking us to a utopia high in the sky, a place of magic, purity, fantasy, imagination and creativity. Shrouded in mystery and lost in time, an ancient civilisation not only home to heroes and gods, but the birthplace of an immortal flying warrior, created by the sun god himself, the Phoenix. Our phoenix is the ultimate symbol of strength, renewal, protection, longevity and rebirth. Foretold by many Ancient civilisations for centuries now, every 500 years the Phoenix embarks on a journey to restore order. Emerging from the depths of the earth, the Phoenix travels the world healing, protecting, purifying and destroying all evil until it reaches its final destination, its birthplace, Esoterica. A bioluminescent forest full of phantasia, submerged deep amongst the clouds, our wonderland includes 8 sacred spaces all connected with interwoven labyrinths and passageways hidden within. The Sun Temple is the Phoenixs permanent memorial for this 500 year ceremony that is nestled between gigantic mountainous floating islands and waterfalls that pierce the clouds. Over the 5 day journey, it is here the Phoenix will start to prepare for it’s final evolution, building its nest to be set on fire by the sun god to be reborn and resurrected from its former self stronger, tougher, braver than ever.
