MILESTONE! - they have been coming thick and fast recently. Spoiler, I didnt stomp this. Yesterday we lucked out big time, waking up to a 40cm day at @trebleconenz !! Somehow I made it to the summit in the first 5, witnessed @miguelporteous backflip the diving board and decided I wanted some of that upside down action, pulling my first backy off a rock since day 0 - captured beautifully by @208media on the 📸. I wasnt keen to front punch, gave it too much beans and over rotated the flip, deciding to tuck in for the manu (kiwi hot tub) to my back instead of trying to ski out with a huge back slap, which would have been painful on the leg. I get you. I know how properly folded clothes need to be organized categories-wise in the cupboard. If party dress goes to the office dresses section, it feels like you have failed in life! Everytime you walk in any physical space possible, God knows from where you get all the energy to clean it, because even you dont know!! And boy, dont get me started on the odd numbers crisis. The meeting cant start at 8:43 please!! It has to be either 8:45 or 9:00. And if you tap on my left shoulder, please please please tap on the right one too. Dont make me cry, please? Things, my dear friend, need to be equidistant from each other. Even if it means you have to arrange them 1000 times, you gotta do it! And the greatest enemy of our lives - Cleaning. We Clean. Clean. Clean. I dont remember how many times in a day I clean. I clean my room and go into the kitchen and clean there and come back to my room and clean again and kitchen and clean and room and clean. Sigh!😓 You never intend to hurt someone, so all you wear this so called OCD noose in your neck and do it all by yourself. You suffocate but cant stop. You exhaust yourself but cant rest. It hurts when people closest to you dont understand your dilemma. Your helpless mind that just doesnt let you sleep at night if the door stopper is not pointing at exact right angle from the wall. And the need for you to check if the gas stove is off again and again.They get annoyed when you are distracted in your conversations because that coffee mug on the table is not placed exactly in the center. You try hard to not get distracted and thats where you get crushed. Between satisfying your unreasonable compulsive need to do things and your devotion to other things. [ESP070] RAYMOND RICHARDS - The Lost Art Of Wandering - Vinyl/Digital LP — Released May 2020 — In the late 90’s, east-side LA was in the throws of a post-indie explosion; a network of stoned bands ranging from neo-psychedelia to pseudo-country overran Spaceland (our generation’s Troubadour) and the local Silverlake Lounge. I was playing freakbeat records twice a week in dive bars, half of Spacemen 3 was crashing at my house (my drop-out roomate was Sonic Boom’s tour drummer) and it was during this blur that I met Raymond Richards, a clean-cut all-American pedal steel guitarist playing in Mojave 3 (the country-tinged side project of 4AD shoegaze royalty, Slowdive). I was instantly swept off my feet, head over heals in love with Raymonds weeping tone — the most chill-inducing, emotionally responsive dialog I’d had with music since discovering Satie as a child — it was then and it is now, truly haunting. After a year of personnel trials, my roomate and I stole Raymond for our own band, and not only did he smother our songs with his enchanting steel, he was virtuosic with a variety of atypical instruments such as baritone guitar and theremin, he utilized them all. The band was short-lived — I joined Ariel Pink, Raymond fled to Portland and me subsequently to New York City — but in founding the ESP Institute years later, there was always a recurring mental note, we must make Raymond’s pedal steel album. I had managed to wrangle his blessed performance on a remix for Project Club’s El Mar Y La Luna, but it took almost a decade until I once again wore the producer hat and we began working on The Lost Art Of Wandering, a title borrowed from Sam Shepard’s ‘Stories’. Spiritually candid, expansive yet enveloping, this is the strung-out, visceral country music that simply radiates from Raymond. Part 5/7: Gluttony • Hi so I am back and ready to share the last couple parts of this project so that I can start bringing new ideas to life and sharing those on this little photo journal that I have going on here. A lot has happened in the past few months, hence the month and a half break between these posts and finishing out this project. A few pictures from Paul’s epic swim. 16 hours and 40 mins starting in the dark and ending with a 4 hour battle against the currents to get to the French coast. Paul has said that the thought of all the support and the money being raised really helped him get through those last few hours.
