Tomorrow OC alumnus, Nick Pelletier will attempt to break the Guinness World Record for fastest swim of Lake Okanagan, 106 km, from Vernon, B.C. to Penticton, B.C. In addition to the swim being a personal challenge, Pelletier is also raising funds to help support BrainTrust Canada, a non-profit dedicated to meeting the unique needs of people affected by acquired brain injury by providing evidence-based approaches to rehabilitation and recovery. We caught up with Pelletier to hear more about what he’s been up to. Q: Hey Nick! So tell us what was the motivation behind this mission? A: The motivation behind this swim came from my inability to follow through on previously planned out endeavours because of COVID-19. My friend and I paddled from Vernon to Kelowna on a kayak earlier this winter and I thought challenging the whole lake would be a cool idea, but thought kayaking might be too easy. This may be an age too late, but heres a photo for the #standup4nature2020 challenge. I was nominated by @ollierileysmith123 to post a photo of nature, and ideally myself in nature, as part of a WWF, GYBN and GYAT initiative. . While Im doing so, I thought I might as well introduce myself to anyone who doesnt really know what I do. Im an 18 year old environmental campaigner, trying to play my part in the fight against the twin climate and biodiversity crises. I do this through several means: working on projects with fantastic organisations like @rspb_love_nature, @reservaylt @surreywildlifetrust and @ukyouth4nature, advocacy and speaking when given the opportunity, and using filmmaking & social media to try to reach out to more young people about these issues. ☺️ . Quarantine got me missing my job! Thought I’d get a bit creative with the photography and took this from a different angle & ring light . So here’s the shot of @tom.lov3 last trim, I know for a fact he’s missing his barber more than his missus 💯 @tom.lov3 has a mid/high skin fade with a straight shape up. The top was long and thick so we gave that a good trim, point cutting around the crown, apex and fringe alongside with a lot of freehand texturising as he wanted to move away from the blunt fringe. The hair was then styled using the @bornurbanbarbers grooming range salt spray, blow dried and styled with @bornurbanbarbers Powder and NN2 to give that texture whilst keeping the hair matte.
