Name that famous movie line: Youve got a yellow fever, and the only prescription is ex-votos. That was, of course, Christopher Walken playing St. Roch in Any Hurt of Pestilence, a completely made-up movie imagined by THNOCs Visitor Services Department. Follow our link in profile to read more New Orleans stories that they think should be movies (and to see who would play some of our historys most interesting characters). - Any Hurt of Pestilence would be set during the Yellow Fever epidemic of 1868, when Rev. Peter Thevis (portrayed in our imaginations by George Clooney) sought to protect his parishioners from the outbreak. Thevis made an appeal to Saint Roch (Walken), patron saint of the diseased and disabled, to heal the sick in his church, promising to erect a chapel in the saint’s honor. Miraculously, no one in Thevis’ church succumbed to yellow fever. Thevis, making good on his promise, laid the cornerstone of what would become the St. Roch Chapel on September 6, 1875, and the legendary St. Roch Cemetery soon sprang up beside it, shown here in the 1990s. Sin esa rápida acción las consecuencias sobre nuestra gente habrían sido devastadoras. Estuvimos a tu lado en las difíciles. En ese sentido, previo a decretos que el Gobierno Nacional emitió, el Gobierno de Maldonado dispuso un batería de ayuda solidaria, multiplicando lo que ya se venía realizando desde el comienzo del período de Enrique Antía durante 4 años y medio, y continuado por Jesús Bentancur estos meses, con más del 30% del Presupuesto destinado a inversión social. Maldonado Solidario: Esto se resume en la entrega, por parte de la IDM de 50.836 canastas entre marzo y agosto, 479.534 viandas, un vale de 500 pesos complementario a las canastas desde setiembre y colaboración mensual a más de 21 merenderos. Por otra parte también en los fríos días de invierno el Maldonado Solidario mostró su rostro desde la Administración, atendiendo a las personas en situación de calle. En un trabajo conjunto con la Policía y el Mides se dio solución transitoria a más de 100 personas que estaban en situación de calle y se abrió un nuevo refugio para más de 50 personas. También facilitamos durante varios días las instalaciones del Campus para alojar y alimentar a los más necesitados, coordinando con el Ejército y la Fuerza Aérea camas en otras dependencias y traslados para ello. En lo que tiene que ver con el trabajo, el programa Jornales Solidarios, hijo de la crisis del año 2000 en el primer Gobierno de Enrique Antía, creció año tras año y en su segunda administración fue una solución inmediata con contrapartida para cientos de familia. Este 2020, en plena pandemia, al número previsto de 500 se agregaron más de 800, incluso con cupo para personas con discapacidad, fruto estos últimos de haber enviado a la Junta Departamental una solicitud de crédito COVID 19 para poder paliar la situación de nuestra gente en momentos complejos. #construyendofuturo - @maldonado_uy on Instagram
