A broad low pressure system located over the eastern Florida Panhandle is producing disorganized shower activity. The low is forecast to move southward to southwestward and emerge over the northeastern Gulf of Mexico later today. Once the system is over water, environmental conditions are expected to be conducive for tropical cyclone formation, and a tropical depression is likely to develop by late Wednesday or Thursday while the system moves westward across the northern Gulf of Mexico. Regardless of whether or not a tropical cyclone forms, this system has the potential to produce heavy rainfall along portions of the northern and eastern U.S. Gulf Coast later this week. #MorningBrew: The Negro Leagues are getting the kind of recognition they deserve this Sunday. All Major League clubs will celebrate the centennial of the founding of the Negro National League -- the first structured Negro League that lasted for an extended period -- with all players, managers, coaches, and umpires wearing a Negro Leagues 100th anniversary logo patch on their uniforms during Sunday’s games. The logo, a derivative of the official logo created by the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, also will be featured on base jewels and lineup cards. The festivities, originally slated for June 27 but postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic, will cap what has become a summer-long celebration of the league and its players, 100 years after the league’s founding. Bob Kendrick, who is the president of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, believes the big celebration would not have happened without Major League Baseball and the Major League Baseball Players Association, who made a joint donation of $1 million to the museum in February. “We are really excited about Sunday,” Kendrick said. “Even though it’s not the way that we had envisioned it, with fans being in the ballpark and creating that groundswell of energy in and around this celebration, we have one of the most significant platforms ever to count the richness of the history of the Negro Leagues. My good buds at @vidoolymedia have published a great report on the state of digital video in 2019. 2019 has been the year of the rise of Tiktok and Instagram in India. In my view the numbers clout of tiktok growth has been more than matched by the premium clout of Insta - if you know what I mean. Every brand manager and media buyer wants to know what the Insta number is of a tiktok star and it’s almost an after thought now, what the Facebook followers are (most of the new age stars aren’t using FB - they’re just on Insta and tiktok and maybe snap). So I took the Insta snapshot of the most viewed profiles in the report and dove deeper into REAL engagement. Likes and comments - remember likes are cheap - a quick double tap and move on is the way a lot of millennials and Gen Zs will consume Insta. To stop and comment is the REAL ACID TEST. Celebrating the Successful Recovery of the Island Fox Once on the brink of extinction, the island fox now roams freely across the Channel Islands. Its a conservation success story. On the four-year anniversary of the official U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service announcement removing the island fox (Urocyon littoralis) from the Endangered Species List (ESL), foxes are stable in number and overall health. Official numbers reported at May 2020 IFC Working Group In spite of the fact that this remarkable recovery is still celebrated today, conservation work is never completely done. Island foxes remain a conservation-reliant species. Threats still exist to the foxes from parasites, viruses, and human impacts as the islands are visited more and more each year. Keeping island foxes safe and healthy requires understanding of their diet, reproduction, lifespan, behavior, and disease threats. On-going research doesnt just benefit the island fox. The lessons learned help other rare species as well. The Sierra Nevada red fox is benefiting from viable population modes that were developed for island foxes on Catalina. While not a one-to-one relationship, it is a reference that provides related information for another foxs demographic needs. Its science for Fox sake! The power of partnership and focus can realize dramatic results and we have to look no farther than the group of islands off the Southern California coast. Today each spring fox kits are born as helpless little beings that would not survive without their parents constant attention. In the course of six short months these tiny helpless creatures grow into self-sufficient cinnamon, gray, and black-colored predators that leave their birth den and seek out their own piece of the island.
