Fledging Update. This chick has attempted to fledge but has instead ended up on the other side of the harbour at Aramoana. Although you can see Taiaroa Head in the background in this image she could not be seen from the headland even with binoculars as she was tucked in by the dunes. A member of the public phoned the Department of Conservation office and she is being returned to the headland to try again. Outside of working hours wildlife in trouble can be reported to 0800 DOC Hot (0800 362 468). As much detail as possible is useful to accessing the situation over the phone. This is the GP chick a couple of days younger than Atawhai, her nest is well down the hill, hopefully she gets a better send off next time. Now she is back there are 10 chicks remaining on the headland. - @albatrosscentre on Instagram

The weather in the whole north Atlantic is quite dramatic today. Buses and ferries have cancelled their tours for the rest of the day. 🌊 This picture is taken on the easternmost island “Fugloy”, and they are used to the ferry being cancelled. The residents in all the outern islands are used to this. They can not controll the weather, but they can controll how much they depend on supplies from the mainland. And they are very self sufficiant, wich is so cool and inspiring 💪 The nature is always changing here. A few days ago it was almost like summer. The sun was shining and the flowers begin to shoot. 1/3: GFW 2019 x YKK WINDOW DISPLAY Hannah Stote ⬆️ Winner of Catwalk Knitwear Award 2019 Folklore surrounding 18th century fishermen’s ganseys was the main inspiration for Hannah’s collection. 100% wool was chosen and where possible, British wool. Hannah chose wool as its a fibre that’s biodegradable and hypoallergenic, with strong warming and cooling properties. Celebrating the history of knitting was also important as well as acknowledging the importance of craft. Theyre ok! Q Station is known for their scary ghost tours, but last night the fright was real with the North Head fire putting them under threat. It was a relief to hear theyve made it through the night: We are ok!. You may have heard there was a wildfire at North Head last night which came close to threatening Q Station. The wonderful NSW Fire & Rural Fire Service managed to contain the blaze and no damage was done to the property. A massive thank you... we are forever grateful for your service!
