The debate never went away. Some things take time.... . . Reaching Out is my first individual full figure representation of a woman, and one of very few public sculptures of a Black woman in the UK (one of the first being a short distance from where I grew up). This new work, depicting a young woman standing holding a mobile phone in both hands, continues a theme of balancing experiences of isolation and connectedness, whilst acknowledging the different ways in which technology mediates our lives. . Reaching Out celebrates London’s diversity and explores multiple themes of contemporary relevance; from the debate about representation, to social isolation and the complex relationship we have with technology. Reaching Out is a work about the contradictory connectedness and isolation of modern life and a bold statement in public art which both invites and opens-up discussion on issues of pressing social relevance. . Price has consistently explored representations of Black characters in his work and in Reaching Out he plays with both the values society ascribes Black womanhood and preconceptions of what public sculpture should represent. At 9ft tall, the scale is deliberately larger than life and whilst the pose carries an echo of the neo-classical, Reaching Out is deliberately un-triumphant, instead countering the expectations of monumental sculpture associated with historical depictions of white men. In this time of Coronavirus and the consequent lockdown, please join us in helping the needy folk musicians of Rajasthan get through challenges unlike ones they have faced before. Remote communities that are already poor, fragile, and marginalised are being impacted on an unprecedented scale. Their situation is growing increasingly desperate by the day. We must respond now. Jodhpur RIFF, in partnership with the Mehrangarh Museum Trust, and the World Sacred Spirit Festival, has launched the Coronavirus Relief Project. We are identifying families and villages that are the neediest and have put in place the mechanisms to ensure that they receive food in the coming weeks, regularly. Working together with local artists and volunteers in each village, we are providing emergency food packs which are purchased locally. Each pack costs Rs. 750 (approximately UK £7.80), and will last an average family of 6 for one week. In our first phase, we have provided food packs to more than 300 hundred families in 7 villages in Jaisalmer, Barmer and Jodhpur districts. In our second phase, we have already reached 10 villages and 130 families and are reaching out to more families. We are committed to providing packs regularly, until the current lockdown is relaxed. In addition, we will meet the necessary medical expenses for our senior-most musicians, our living legends and those who need urgent medical treatment. In 2014, @kwasikessie and I wanted to bring back our passion project, Laced Magazine. We originally brought this magazine to life as college students, back in 2006. With the support of a publishing company, we decided to relaunch Laced Magazine. Within 3 months, we gathered up the community we were inspired by and knocked out a 96 page magazine. It featured A$AP Ferg, Teyana Taylor, Aleali May, Pro Era + more. Long story short, the company backed out of the deal and we ended up shelving the magazine. - For the past 6 years, this issue has lived in my computer in a folder titled Laced Up. I revisited this folder containing our magazine and decided it was time to share it with you all digitally. To me, this magazine represents 6 years of nostalgia, but to you it may mean something completely new and different. I think its necessary to look within the past as a reminder of where we were and where we are now. The print version of my commentary is out in @sfchronicle_culture today. It’s probably the most personal thing I’ve ever written. Not just the subject matter and the reason I created this show, but my exercises as an artist being explained. I wanted to demystify the process and make it accessible to any casual reader who was curious about one person’s artistic process. But ultimately, this essay is about human language and our concept of race, and how destructive it is when one group doesn’t own the accountability of their communication, and how the other group is left holding all of that awareness. “The Forgotten Holocaust—Witnesses remember the Bengal Famine 77 years later”, is a must read cover story in this month’s issue of @thecaravanmagazine. Author Kushanava Chowdhury and photographer Soumya Sankar Bose travelled to Maipith, an island in the Sunderbans, to find the survivors of the famine that killed more than 3 million people in 1943. This is a photograph of Kunti Manna, one of the survivors. Her daughter died last year, age 82. She witnessed history, she said. She remembered the 1942 Midnapur rebellion, the martyrdom of the revolutionary Matangini Hazra, and hiding from the police in a loft full of dried dung when they came to seize her cattle. So proud to have commissioned @soumyasankarbose, who hails from Midnapore himself. He has sensitively, and beautifully, photographed the people and the the place they sought refuge decades ago. Little know fact...I tossed my hat into the acting ring once. I was living in Italy my senior year @ NYU and the legendary #WoodieKingJr called and said that he had a roll for me to play. I explained that I was living my best life in Italy and that I wasn’t an actress. He told me the one and only #RonMilner had written this role and it could only be played by me. If you you know Woodie than you know no one says no to the King. So back to NY I went to do my very first Off-Broadway play. The more I thought about it the more excited I became. I remember going into our first table read, nervous but ready and fam, when I tell you I was HORRIBLE, I was horrible! Inexperienced, anxious, overwhelmed, you name it! I just knew I was going to tank the whole production. Seeing how nervous I was my co-star (new to the game as well) held my hand under the table and whispered: “Deep breaths....you got this sis” and he never stop holding my hand for the whole run. He was magic, he captivated, he held space, he was generous and funny. He was hardworking and humble. He was so protective and pensive. A thinker. He was like watching a master class in acting. He was a force to be reckoned with. He was Chadwick Aharon Boseman. We were babies. I knew that show was the end for me in terms of acting but everyone who witness Chad’s gift knew it was just the beginning and that the sky was the limit. Over the years whenever we would see each other he would hold my hand. And ask: “you good Sis? रायगड विकास प्राधिकरण स्थापन होऊन साधारणतः तीन वर्षे होत आली.अध्यक्षपदी निवड होऊन प्राधिकरणाच्या माध्यमातून या कालावधीत गडावर अनेक कामे करण्यात आली आहेत. यामध्ये प्रामुख्याने गडावर असलेल्या मंदिरांवर केलेली रासायनिक प्रक्रिया, रोप-वे अप्पर स्टेशन ते नगारखाना या नविन मार्गाची निर्मिती, गडावर असलेल्या पाण्याच्या टाक्यांमधील गाळ काढणे, हत्ती तलावासारख्या मोठ्या तलावातील गाळ काढून तलावाला असलेली गळती काढण्यात मिळालेले यश, नानादरवाजा ते महादरवाजा या मार्गावर चालू असलेले सध्याचे काम, चित्तदरवाजा ते महादरवाजा या मार्गावर करण्यात येत असलेला प्रशस्त पायऱ्यांचा मार्ग अशा कामांचा समावेश आहे. याच बरोबर एखाद्या ऐतिहासिक वास्तूची पुर्नंबांधणी करण्यासाठी अवश्यक गोष्टींची पुर्तता कशी केली पाहीजे याच मुर्तीमंत उदाहरण म्हणून नाना दरवाजा कडे पाहील पाहीजे. सर्वात महत्वाचे म्हणजे गडावर करण्यात आलेले उत्खनन. सर्वच इतिहास अभ्यासक व दुर्ग अभ्यासकांच्या दृष्टीने महत्वाच्या असलेल्या अनेक वस्तू गडावर करण्यात आलेल्या उत्खननात मिळालेल्या आहेत. यापूर्वी गडावर एक - दोन वेळेला उत्खनन झाले होते, पण त्यावेळी मिळालेल्या वस्तूंच्या योग्य पध्दतीने नोंदी ठेवण्यात आलेल्या नव्हत्या. तसेच उत्खननात मिळालेल्या वस्तू या गडापासून दूर वस्तुसंग्रहालयात ठेवल्याने त्याचा योग्य अभ्यास करण्यात अडचणी येत होत्या. या त्रुटी लक्षात घेऊन आपण उत्खननाचे काम केले आहे. यामध्ये मिळालेल्या प्रत्येक वस्तू आणि वास्तूंचे योग्य नोंदणीकरण (Documentation) केले आहे. या उत्खननात एका नवीन मोठ्या वाड्याचे अवशेष मिळालेले आहेत. अजूनही बऱ्याच गोष्टी जमिनीच्या पोटात आहेत त्या शोधायच्या आहेत. गडाचा इतिहास जगासमोर आणावयाचा आहे. महाड ते रायगड पायथा या मार्गाचे रुंदीकरण, शुशोभिकरण व पर्यटकांना मुलभूत सुविधा निर्माण करण्याचे काम,तसेच गडावर उत्खनन ही करण्यात येणार आहे. लाईट अँन्ड साउंड शो च्या माध्यमातून गडाची माहिती येणाऱ्या पर्यटकांना देण्यात येणार आहे. गडाच्या घेऱ्यात येणाऱ्या प्रत्येक गावात मुलभूत सुविधा, पर्यटनाच्या दृष्टीने विकास व स्थानिक लोकांना रोजगार निर्माण होण्यासाठी प्राधिकरणाच्या वतिने प्रयत्न करण्यात येणार आहे. या सर्वाची माहीती वेळोवेळी मी पेजच्या माध्यमातून आपल्याला दिलेलीच आहे, पण प्रत्येक कामाची सविस्तर माहीती उद्या पासून तीन ते चार भागात याच पेजच्या माध्यमातून सांगणार आहे. चालू कामामध्ये अथवा पुढील कामाविषयी काही सुचना असल्यास जरुर कमेंट बाँक्स मध्ये कळवाव्यात. आपल्या सर्वांचे सहकार्य व शुभेच्छा मला व माझ्या सहकाऱ् - @raigadinfo on Instagram

7 years of Lootera today. This was the most difficult yet the most gratifying experience for me. If I tried to articulate everything that the past 6 months has been for me…I would come up short. What I can say is that my life has changed, irrevocably, for the better. Amidst all the craziness and pain this year has brought, my friend @izacmann approached me with an open heart saying that he wanted to do more. He wanted to use his skills as a producer to amplify my voice. I will never forget the overwhelming feeling of gratitude laced with self doubt and exhaustion. I’d been speaking out on social media more than ever because I didn’t know where else to put the voice that I’d found within all of the pain and rage, however…the idea of creating a new platform all its own for what I was doing seemed like a stretch. Not really knowing what I was getting myself into I said yes but with the caveat that I couldn’t do it alone. The next day I had a call with @brianayoulove that I still consider confirmation. We spoke about feeling a call to do more but being afraid of what that meant. How much we didn’t know about the issues we wanted to discuss and the platforms on which we wanted to discuss them. And somehow, in the not knowing, we decided to jump in blind together. Over the next few weeks more and more of these conversations happened. More and more of my community was willing to jump into the endeavor and learn loudly in order to create change in this world. And they have become my family. From the bottom of my heart I cannot thank @bren.barberena @stefanierons @paigeknelson @sea_boyd @hybridhoodlum @izacmann @brianayoulove @themacieproject @laska_musik and God enough. You all teach me everyday. You remind me that I’m never alone. You remind me that being transparent about your ignorance is actually productive as long as its paired with a determination to quell it. You’ve shown me the world that I hope for. And I pray that we continue to make this energy reverberate louder and wider as time continues to pass. I love you all so so much. .
