CERDOS PARA CHINA: ESTE ES EL PLAN. Desde que nos enteramos del plan de atraer inversiones chinas al país en forma de mega granjas de cerdos para librar así a ese país de distintas enfermedades, invitándolas a nuestro territorio (¡qué negoción!) la estrategia de los funcionarios de cancillería que promueven el acuerdo fue bajar la intensidad. Pasaron de comunicar la cría de 100 millones de animales a 900 mil, y de llenar el país de fábricas porcinas a distribuir “solo 25 hasta llegar en 4 años a 350 mil madres”, como si duplicar la producción actual fuera poco. También, corrigiendo y editando comunicaciones viejas, y sin sacar nuevas, agregaron que los proyectos incorporarían cosas “sustentables” cuando –desde Dinamarca hasta México- las granjas industriales son contaminación, explotación, tortura sistemática y pandemias. En medio de todo ese palabrerío lo que faltaba por supuesto era información. ¿Cómo serían esos lugares? ¿Cuál es su diseño? ¿Habría cerdos jugando con juguetes como dicen los empresarios o animales confinados de a miles? ¿Qué debería tener el pueblo/comunidad que los reciba que hasta ahora los funcionarios describían cómo “la nada”? ¿Cuál es el uso de agua por día? ¿Y la generación real de empleos? ¿Habrá que abrir nuevos campos para alimentar a los cerdos? Acá les dejo algunas respuestas de este bonito PPT filtrado anoche de las oficinas de quienes traman estas cosas. A espaldas nuestras, siempre. Repleto de términos tan esquivos como atroces –fríos, maquinales, productivistas- pero que si sabemos leer van a ver que narran la historia de siempre: una donde los campos transgénicos se extienden sobre la naturaleza, los pobres seguirán siendo pobres pero unos cientos tendrán empleos asquerosos, y los animales son cosas a los que en algunos casos llaman madres y abuelas, para las que se piensan lugares mínimos, jaulas y corrales donde se reproducen y esperan hasta terminar como carne de exportación, que garantice la seguridad alimentaria de otros, mientras nuestra soberanía alimentaria espera y espera que le lleguen tiempos mejores. 🚑 HEALTH UPDATE 🚑 This girl is on the mend from severe neglect. She had a harness tightly secured for 4-6 weeks, eventually causing the harness to get embedded to her skin. After her trip up to MSU she traveled to her forever home at the @greatlakesrabbit this weekend. They have a small potbelly pig population where this lucky girl will spend the rest of her life. 😔🙏🏻 Rp @minovalleyfarmsanctuary UPDATE ⚠️ warning graphic images. It’s a miracle that this precious girl is even alive. I don’t know how she has managed to survive. It’s much worse than we thought. She has puncture wounds and abscesses all over her body. The wounds are infected with some going necrotic and she was infested with thousands of maggots. I have never seen anything like it. Her tail has been destroyed. Her one ear has been cut off. Her other ear ripped open. Her front hooves are severely overgrown and rotten. She can’t stand up and doesn’t want to eat. We spent hours removing her wool and cleaning her injuries. We have started her on emergency treatment with antibiotics, antiinflammatories, painkillers, vitamins and fluids. Right now she is wrapped in a blanket resting on a big bed of fresh hay. She is warm and no longer in pain. Her temperature is stable but we are worried about pneumonia and she is also experiencing nystagmus which is rapid involuntary eye movements possibly due to the trauma she has suffered. I honesty don’t know if she will make it through the night but whatever happens at least she won’t die alone on the side of the road. She was first found 3 days ago by someone in a nearby village and they called the authorities but nobody had come to to help her. 3 DAYS she was left dying on the floor in agony being eaten alive by maggots. All this time the owner knew she was there. This world makes me sick. Sometimes I I just can’t bear it. All that matters now though is that she is safe with us. Finally getting the care she deserves. We decided to call her Lenna ✨ which means brave with the strength of a lion. Please pray for her and send all your healing energies. Absolutely blown away by the Ballarat community today! We had such an overwhelming response with all 100 bouquets taken in 8 minutes! So many beautiful and heartbreaking stories, people so thankful to be able to pass on a small token of care to a vulnerable person in our community, the elderly, disabled, those suffering extreme hardship and of course our healthcare workers. There were nurses who came to take a bunch for themselves, and I’m so pleased they did. I have cried reading so many messages of thanks today and it is truly heartwarming to know that from my loss of business I have been able to turn a tiny part of that into something big and special for someone else. Yesterday afternoon, we spent the time trimming some of our flowers & shrubs that had come to the end of their season. Some of them had sprouted ready for round 2! Our lavender had been fantastic all through the summer, so now that it’s dried I wanted to bring some of it inside to add a bit of freshness to one of our rooms! It still smells amazing! Ozzy needs a new home. Her current humans are forced to downsize in an unplanned move. She is very loved as you can see from the pics. Ozzy sees one of the amazing vets we already work with and we have her medical records that show she is healthy. Her current owner writes, I’m not concrete of her age I would guess around maybe 2 years old. I got her from a friend who couldn’t keep her, and unfortunately didn’t have a lot of background on her either, and said she just got her from a pet store. Prayers aren’t always answered how we expect (or how we want). ⠀ I’m sharing a flashback from two years ago. We were on our first family road trip since the season of #birthtrauma and #anxiety, not to mention the myriad of other health issues I had. ⠀ I remember feeling so embarrassed at how anxious I was just to drive out of the state. Mind you, this was coming from a woman that had previously moved herself many miles from home, would offer to test ropes for rappelling and rock climbing, and had no problem taking risks or being adventurous. ⠀ Two years ago, I was on a journey learning how to take back my life. I missed who I used to be. I didn’t want to hate my life. I wanted to be present with my family and enjoy life and be free from all the heath issues and paralyzing fear. ⠀ On the day this photograph was taken, I remember praying so hard for the Lord to give me direction. I prayed for insight, for guidance, for clarity. I also prayed that He would just take all the pain, anxiety, and problems away. Just like that- I would be FREE. ⠀ But my healing, my freedom, didn’t come right when I prayed that prayer. It didn’t come when I prayed the next day or the next day. And I wasn’t happy about it. I was angry with God. ⠀ After all, I believed. I sought His presence. I worshipped and loved others. I sowed and served. I did all the “right things”. I remember promising that I’d shout it from the rooftops if the Lord suddenly healed me of everything. ⠀ That wasn’t and isn’t my story. ⠀ I don’t have all the answers, but in hindsight, I recognize how much more depth and gold I’ve gleamed from this process. I believe it’s far more than I would have gotten if I was instantly healed. ⠀ I also believe God wanted me to partner with Him in my own process. Sometimes we expect so much of the Lord, but so little from ourselves. We need to take responsibility over our lives, just as much as we need to surrender our hearts to His. ⠀ Friend, if you’re on a healing journey, don’t give up. Today I turn 28. The day after I turned 27 I chopped my hair off. My bob haircut had been so tied to my modelling identity for years that I had to get rid of it in order to look into the mirror and recognize someone who was more than only a model. I lost touch with the artist I studied to be and the self loving happy Yogi I aspired to become. This year was a bumpy ride but I can now say : it was worth it. I’ve never have felt happier, more loved and more love for myself and all life’s elements then ever before. My hair has grown back and so did my love for life and all it has to offer. To share a little quote from my favorite tarot deck, written on the card I pulled for 2020 earlier this year: “the question is, Where will you with your new set of wings?” I’m starting a 2 year Masters studies in Social Design at the Design Academy Eindhoven coming september ( if the covid circumstances allow it ) and really look forward to all the things it will bring. 🌱🌿🌳 - @martemei on Instagram

All potatoes should be gathered by mid-October to avoid weather damage. Here are our top tips for a good harvest: – Lift on a dry day and allow potatoes to dry on the surface of the soil for two or three hours – Handle tubers gently, as they bruise easily and this impairs their keeping qualities – Store in hessian or paper sacks, or in boxes in a frost-proof shed. What’s the big deal about being a young, female, and Black beginning livestock producer? Over the next couple of weeks, we’re going to break down why this matters. Let’s start with “young” and “beginning. 🐷 27% of farmers in our state are considered “new,” which means they have been farming fewer than 10 years. Farmers who are just starting out, especially those like Chantel who didn’t grow up on a farm or inherit land, need support like training, mentoring, and financing. Farming challenges are the norm and no one can make it on their own. 🐖 The average age of farmers in North Carolina is 58 according to recent census data. Less than 6% of North Carolina’s farmers are considered young (below 35 years of age). How do we expect to feed ourselves if we don’t have young farmers entering the profession? We need to support young people like Chantel who have a passion for agriculture and are willing to do the hard work of building and maintaining a farm enterprise. I believe that the best art is created when you are most passionate about something. If it does not speak to you and your heart does not leap out of your chest as you are creating your next masterpiece than your audience will see the lack of love you put into it. They will see that you didn’t put your heart and soul in the project and will not be able to connect to it in such a way you intended them to. Without passion in your art , you will never be satisfied with what you create. Q. What role does the artist play in society? Art has so many different roles in society , due to the fact that there are so many different types of art I think that in my profession, modeling has a sense of vulnerability to it. As a model you have to be able to envision what the client wants and bring that to life. You have to put yourself in the shoes of who you are trying to attract and be able to sell it! In some ways I consider models as actors, that is because there are times you work for brands you have never heard of and your job is to make the world think that it’s the best product in the world. Sometimes it is the best , which makes your life easier but sometimes you don’t know because you’ve never used the product before. Tonight when we walked the garden I asked her if anyone had been unkind to her about the color of her skin. At first she shook her head no, but then after a moment she told me a group of girls recently had laughed at her and said that when she was old enough to get a boyfriend, boys wouldn’t like her, since boys like white girls more. (UGH) We talked about racism. We talked about love. We talked about forgiveness, repentance. We talked about what being a black girl with a white mom felt like. What being a white mom with a black girl felt like. What was hard. What was beautiful. And then she asked if someone had ever been racist toward me. I thought back, all 38 of my years, and the only thing I could come up with was the prejudice I faced when I chose to gather a little brown baby into my arms. Not everyone understood. Not everyone agreed. I felt judged, by either side of the coin. Some were rude. Some gawked. Some whispered. Some still do. In the entirety of my life, the only possible prejudice I have faced was not even actually about me. It was her. I’m grateful to live in Alaska. I am grateful for the many arms she has made her home in. I’m grateful that neither one of us have very many stories to tell. But I know she will have more. She is still so naive. She’s just barely opening her beautiful brown eyes. To some people the Black Lives Matter is an establishment, an over-blown movement, its even sometimes perceived as new form of racism. There are a lot of opinions and politics and pain floating around the internet. But to some people, in some hearts, the Black Lives Matter movement is an actual person. To me, she just looks like a ten year old little girl, twirling in the flowers. My point here is this: Love your neighbor. Break it down, reduce the movement, reduce the numbers, until you find an actual person at your arms length to love. Black lives do matter, because they are your friend, your coworker, your brother, your daughter. And chances are, your heart will soften as it opens. I cannot really put in words how hard it is to tell you this sad news. My beloved Paul took his last breath two days ago. I still cant believe he isnt here with me anymore.
