I was lucky enough to play a lot of cricket with one of my best mates growing up. James Hopes (Redders as I refer to him as) was someone who I believed could have played 50 tests for Australia. His ODI record is simply outstanding and we both had a running battle with our batting as he generally batted 6 and I batted 8 and 9. We always wanted to make sure our strike rate and average was better then the other person. I certainly miss those days playing in the green and gold with this QLD legend. He is now assistant coach to the QLD Bulls and assistant with Delhi with Ricky Ponting as Coach. He is also an unbelievable golfer with a scratch handicap. For the record James finished his career with a batting average of 25 and a strike rate of 93.7. I finished with a batting average of 22.4 and a strike rate of 96.3. The strike rate killed him. 😆. 💎Rock Hunting💎 I think I got way too excited today on our first ever rock hunt😆 I was one of those kids that would collect rocks and invent scientific names for them all🤣🪐 I thought my kids may have been too young to get into it but they had the best time finding hidden rocks around the Historic Village in Tauranga and then finding places to hide them again. Gocup: Thank you booking.com for guiding me to the Rivercrest Appartments in Gocup, ten minutes outside Tumut. Two appartments on a farm up a country road so quiet it doesnt appear on maps. They have a fantastic view across the Tumut River Valley to Great Dividing Range on the other side of the valley. All these pictures and videos were taken from the balcony at dusk and dawn. Not the ideal weather for a clear view, but with cloud and fog flowing along the valley, spectacular. And once it was dark, not a single light in sight. Pruning Season. The beginning of a new season and vintage. Some days start frosty and blue, while other days you can only slightly see in front of you with the wind howling straight in from the south - off the Antarctic. Two pairs of socks, a boot change or addition of another layer at smoko ( kiwi for morning tea) hopefully the afternoon allows one to shed a few layers. This is the season that excites both of us the most. Cuts are made mindfully with the idea of longevity and allowing that sap to flow peacefully come the awakening of spring. The cuts are sealed like a wound with a paste we make with all elements of goodness. This season we have a small crew of locals and travellers to help us move through the vines more efficiently - than the three+ months it would normally take. In the early wake of Spring we are planting 2000 new vines in two new plots. Malvasia & Aleatico in one, and more Savagnin in the other. These will be planted in a slightly different style to the current plantings here with the idea of adapting better to the current and changing climate, drought and impact on land. Compost, ferments( cpp, herbs, seaweed) are brewing to welcome the season with all of its adventures, twists and turns. Happy Soltice! - @manonfarm on Instagram
Have you seen Maddens Falls? We are incredibly fortunate to have this absolute gem across the road from our farm gate! Yesterday I took a quick walk down there (it takes 10-15mins max to walk) to see what it looked like after the rain. There’s a decent amount going over, but after the amount we’ve had over the past week I was kicking myself I didn’t go over as soon as the rain stopped! A big weekend of racing on home turf at the @ironmanoceania 70.3 Sunshine Coast, saw some great results from the @sunshinecoasttriathlonacademy / @protector_aluminium Athletes and Club Members Weather conditions made for some interesting conditions out on the course, especially the cycle leg, when the rain scuds hit, made visibility very hard to see in front of you, wet roads and strong winds at times. when the sun came out, so did the humidity. All Athletes and Club Members were strong across the board and we did see some great results. @maxquirk_ 3rd (18-24) had a great race for his first 70.3, @amvinnicombe 6th (40-44) had a solid day out in the conditions, with @norm.marsh 11th (55-59) was happy to get to the start line after a broken collar bone saw him out for several months. In the Teams @zsoltdallostri (Cycle) and @athleticmargie (run) combined in the Mixed Teams to be the fastest Team overall and also secured the Mixed Team Win, while @pestopassion (Swim) was 9th in Mixed Teams. SCTA Club Members had some great performances with Matthew Wolstencroft 1st (50-54), @michaelhooper 3rd (25-29), @pauly_marchant 4th (25-29) and @ljkerintriathlete 7th (Pro Male) On Saturday 5th September Sam McClarron lined up in the Queensland Athletics Cross Country Championships where he finished 5th 12 Years Boys Well done to all that raced. Narrabeen Lagoon Trail followed by The Newport. The trail is flat with no stairs however it’s VERY long. We turned around after an hour of walking 🐶 Theres also lots of bike riders so weekdays might be better when it’s less busy!! Spirituality + Science are often seen as two opposing ends of a spectrum - but energy is energy and we can not deny that. Both systems give language to it in different ways. Spirituality needs a little more street cred as it can give us so much purpose, fulfilment and connection. Intuition and spirituality exist in our DNA and years ago, before the apps, it was the guidepost for our lives. Spirit often speaks much quicker than science so we shouldn’t disregard our body’s intelligence, intuitive knowings or inherent curiosities. Without the “data” or pros and cons list we can struggle to trust our inner compass. But it’s there. It’s always been there.
