“Allyship is starting to look different and Im thankful for that. I really am. However, in a lot of conversations that Ive had, people isolate it to just George Floyd. They think that because they saw George Floyd and it was in Minneapolis, and it was eight minutes forty-six seconds, and they saw every bit of it, thats what they needed to believe that it happens. And it almost makes you think, ‘So, this whole time you didnt believe us when we were telling you that we were getting killed out here? You needed someone to show it to you from every possible angle?’ Its almost like youre still not hearing us. Youre just hearing it for yourself. ⁣ ⁣ But Im trying to focus on the momentum and the energy thats happening in the community, everyone thats coming together, especially in Minnesota. Ive been at a lot of the protests and to be a minority at a protest for Black lives? Its ironic, but its a blessing. I think a lot of other states and cities are looking at Minnesota like, ‘Whoa, theres a lot of White people who are really for the cause and are willing to speak up.’ And that is unique, so Im thankful for that. But its been hard. Theres been moments of hopelessness, that this will never stop, and theres also been moments of ‘Its changing.’ So it ebbs and flows, but I’m trying to look at the good in the midst of it. I think across the board, were all learning. Everyone plays a different role.⁣ ⁣ Time will tell. All these companies, corporations, people, and organizations, everybody’s saying ‘Black Lives Matter’ today. Thank you. But well see the fruit in three months. Well see the fruit in six months. They talk about how the Montgomery boycott lasted 381 days. So 381 days from now, we’ll see where people are standing. How many books can you read in 381 days? Its deeper than the one-time black photo on Instagram.⁣ ⁣ Im just trying to see the biggest picture possible and see what role I can play in it. And I feel like everybody has to do that. I went running - for the first time since I fucked up my knees because of running 25km every day. Back then running was my only way to escape from worries and fear. I was addicted to the endorphins rushing through my body...the addiction was so bad that I AGAIN ignored all of the signs my body gave me. I took painkillers and kept running till my knees were full of blood and joint fluid - neither puncturing nor cortison helped. I struggled with pain and absolutely no mobility till my pregnancy; the hormons caused the healing. So this morning was kinda a big deal - running 3km - very slow, with brand new shoes and a bandage that „should activate the knee“. It’s 3 hours ago and I feel fine - so there’s some hope coming up that I will find a way to run again - in a healthy way as there is finally nothing to worry about or to run away from...🙏 - @alinedahse on Instagram

Introducing the one and only... Mr (mini) Shy ☺️ For those who don’t know, a few years ago I used to work as an Assistant Psychologist in a Nursery. During that time, none of the children could pronounce my name (Shyaam) and instead, Mr Shy was born! Since then, most of the early years children that I work with have continued to call me that name, and it’s always been a fun component to add to the therapeutic experience when building rapport. Anyhoo, throughout the lockdown we’ve been working on some exciting things that we’re close to sharing with the world. When I coasted around the corner the snake looked like a twisted branch. Then the branch moved and I grabbed the brakes. The garter moved like water flowing off the trail and into the scrub oak. . So long as I’m stopped I might as well take a picture of @justin_reiter when he comes around the bend, I decided. As I leaned my bike at the edge of the trail I saw a flash of pattern behind the spokes and instantly knew what it was . Justin rounded the corner, I snapped the riding photo and was like YOU GOTTA COME SEE THIS! After taking a pic of the undisturbed arrowhead point we nudged it out of the soil and admired how it changed color when Justin held it up to the sun. . How old is this Uncompahgre Ute point, we wondered? Did it get lost in the brush or was it discarded after the tip broke? How long has this bit of trail been in use anyway? How has something so delicate endured for so long? . Nossa experiência no Egito foi uma das coisas mais intensas de nossas vidas! Ver de perto e poder tocar em tudo aquilo que víamos nos livros de história é algo inexplicável.⁣ ⁣ O país é um dos destinos que ocupa o topo da lista de desejos da maioria dos viajantes. Mas a grande maioria das pessoas optam em aproveitar apenas alguns dias para conhecer os pontos turísticos, mas com a gente foi um pouquinho diferente. ⁣ ⁣ 👉 Nós tivemos a oportunidade de vivenciar realmente a cultura! Vivemos 3 semanas com um beduíno realizando trabalho voluntário. Essa foi a nossa primeira oportunidade de trabalhar com fotografia e produção de vídeo na viagem. Ele gostou tanto do trampo finalizado, que assistia o vídeo no mínimo 5x por dia 😂. A partir daí, tivemos ainda mais certeza do nosso lance com produção audiovisual de viagens e natureza. Além de passarmos 5 dias acampando no meio do deserto do Saara no silêncio absoluto, foram cerca de mais de 1 mês explorando o país.⁣ ⁣ 👉 Passamos mais de 50h andando de transporte público local (nada de trem para turistas), além de longas horas caminhando pelas ruas com pessoas querendo saber quem éramos. Comemos falafel, koshari, tâmaras, halawa e fool em meio a ruas lotadas (de pessoas e moscas), dançamos com um casal de recém casados e cerca de 20 convidados em meio a uma loja de fotografia, nos tornamos especialistas em amarrar o turbante na cabeça, vimos a felicidade estampada no rosto de crianças que nunca haviam visto uma gopro antes.⁣ ⁣ 👉 Conseguimos ser as primeiras a entrar nas pirâmides (e inclusive filmar dentro de uma) no Templo de Luxor sem nenhum outro turista, andar de felucca com amigos locais e também ficamos frente a frente com algumas múmias milenares (e é claro que filmamos também!).⁣ ⁣ Saímos sim esgotadas do país, da loucura, do assédio verbal de muitos homens, da correria, mas o Egito toma nossos corações. A cada novo templo nos perguntávamos mas como é possível?. ⁣ ⁣ Nossa admiração pela terra dos faraós é tanta, que saímos de lá com uma vontade imensa de fazer uma expedição só com mulheres primeiramente. The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.” Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes forth from the mouth of God.’” - Matthew 4:2-4 • • As I walked the desert land of Moab, Utah on that scorching hot afternoon with no signs of civilization nearby, all I could think about was the story of Jesus being tempted by the devil after fasting 40 days and 40 nights in the desert. I kept saying to myself: “What a remarkable man (the Living Christ) He must have been.” • • The little clean water that I had brought with me on that day had become so hot, that I was forced to sip it slow in order to not burn my throat as I washed it down. My skin and lips were completely cracked within minutes and every passing minute felt more like five or ten. My body kept begging me to drink more water but as the water started to run low, I did something that I hadn’t done in a long time. I denied my body of what it wanted. At first, I did it to conserve water but the more I did it and the more I reflected on the temptation of Christ, the more I realized the importance of fasting and denying my flesh from time to time. • • Since coming back from my trip, I’ve made Saturday my rest day (no work) and my fasting day (no food just water) from sun up to sun down. It’s been two weeks now and this weeks fast was the most challenging since I added a 90 minute afternoon Yoga practice after being up since 5 AM. There were times through out the day when I really wanted to give into my fleshly desires and devour whatever I had in my fridge and kitchen cabinets but I remembered why I started fasting. I do it to get closer to God. I also do it in remembrance of all the people in the world who don’t have access to clean food or water and who can’t just open up a kitchen cabinet and feed themselves in a split second. Here I am in the pediatrics section of the hospital - where gut health begins (that and I love Keith Haring). I want to share with you all my story about something I just experienced with my almost 3 year old son. He got a big bite under his eye that swelled up. When it didn’t get better and almost swelled his eye shut, we signed up for a telemedicine consult with a pediatrician. The first thing they recommended was antibiotics. Now I’m not a pediatrician so I respect their assessment and plan but I wanted to make my standpoint clear. “My son has never taken antibiotics and I would like to prevent unnecessary use. Is there anything else we can do or are antibiotics necessary now?” Try a couple doses of Benadryl and a compress and if it’s not better by the evening, then take the antibiotics, she said. Well, after the Benadryl and compresses, he was much better. And like that, I narrowly escaped unnecessary antibiotic use in my child’s growing microbiome. What can you do to preserve the gut health of your children... and yourself? 🗣 Make it understood that you prefer to avoid antibiotics and why (preserve the microbiome + prevent future disease) 🗣 If antibiotics are suggested see if it is appropriate to try anything else before starting antibiotics 🗣 If you do start antibiotics, start probiotics and fermented foods. #gutlove protect your (and your kid’s)gut - @gut_love on Instagram

June 2012, I relocated to ATL from MKE to be closer to my siblings and I knew it was a great economic move for an ambitious-intelligent black man on a mission. A few months passed and I’m working my first marketing activation at the Atlanta 🏈 Classic. The annual #HBCU football game feat. @famu_1887 vs @Southernu_br to a crowd of 41K fans. @goLiquidSoul managed several clients at the game and I was assigned to work with Warner Bros. promoting their upcoming film, “42 - The True Story of an American Legend”. The day of activation, I arrived to the Georgia Dome early to prep and as I’m on the field, my brother @TirrellWhittley introduced me to this gentleman named @ChadwickBoseman. At the time, I didn’t know I was meeting greatness but I respected him as such because he was the star of the film. My responsibility was to guide him around the Dome and make sure he had a great experience promoting the upcoming film. During the game, I told Chadwick I was nervous about my move to ATL and working with so much competition in the entertainment-marketing field. I was head-to-head with some very elite individuals and didn’t want turn out to be a failure. He responded that he was nervous on how “our people” were going to respond and judge his portrayal of Jackie Robinson in his first leading role in a major motion picture. Then told me that it really didn’t matter what happens next because he conquered his goal just like I conquered my goal. I moved to Atlanta to seek bigger and better things and he landed his first leading role in a big-budgeted film. He then went on to tell me that as long as we keep resetting the bar higher than before, it doesn’t matter what people think. Just as long as we’re happy with the outcome and give it all that we got. I felt that in a real way! I told Chadwick thanks for expressing his thoughts and advice. Later into the game we took a 📸 together. This photo and moment have a deeper meaning more than ever. Que lembrança boa! ❄️🍁🏕🌲    Bom Jardim Da Serra, minha segunda casa preferida. 🥰    O Parque Nacional de São Joaquim está situado no sul do país, mais precisamente na região serrana do estado de Santa Catarina. O acesso para a parte alta se faz pelos municípios de Urubici e Bom Jardim da Serra. O Parque Nacional também possui áreas nos municípios de Orleans, Grão Pará e Lauro Müller, estes localizados na parte baixa da Serra do Mar.  A criação do Parque, em julho de 1961, está ligada à necessidade de proteção dos remanescentes de Matas de Araucárias, encontradas em abundância dentro de seus 49.800 hectares. O Parque está inserido no bioma Mata Atlântica.  Além de conservar ecossistemas existentes na Unidade de Conservação, ela foi criada com o objetivo de promover a educação ambiental, a pesquisa e a visitação pública.  A região oferece uma paisagem magnífica. Os cartões-postais são a Pedra Furada e o Morro da Igreja.  Na região nordeste do Parque encontram-se as maiores altitudes, sendo o ponto culminante o Morro da Igreja, com 1.822 metros. No centro do Parque também há áreas bastante elevadas, com altitudes acima de 1.650 metros. Essa região do parque é denominada Campos de Santa Bárbara.  Outro aspecto importante da Unidade é a sua formação geológica, composta por rochas vulcânicas, denominadas Basalto, que formam, conjuntamente com as formações de Arenito, um local propício à recarga e descarga do Aquífero Guarani. Nadie tiene el día de mañana asegurado. Este fin de semana pasaron 2 hechos muy trágicos. El sábado iba para la playa y venia bien molesto por el tranque descomunal que habia, sabia que era un choque, pero no imaginaba que tan grave. Cuando pase por el lugar del accidente resulta que había una REGATA DE GRUAS y una de ellas se cruzó al carril contrario y le pasó por encima a un auto matando asi a un hombre y a un menor de edad (2da foto). Y por otro lado, ayer, Kobe Bryant y su hija fallecieron en un accidente de helicoptero en donde, como de costumbre iban a alguna actividad de basketball juntos (1ra foto). .. La realidad es que el mañana no está asegurado para nadie, ni para el rico, ni para el pobre. De ahí es la importancia de vivir agradecidos por el solo hecho de abrir los ojos cada mañana. Solo al ver accidentes así, podemos entender lo importante que es el regalo de la vida. Un regalo, que a cada minuto alguien lo pierde, y alguien lo gana. Y tu que estas leyendo lo tienes en este momento. Entonces, ¿Qué estas haciendo con ese regalo? ¿Si murieras hoy, así inesperadamente como ellos, que cosas te gustaría dejar en mejores terminos? ¿Que relaciones quisieras que se arreglaran? Solo Te hago las mismas preguntas que yo me hice esta mañana mientras escribia esto. Y la pregunta más importante, ¿Si mueres hoy adonde te vas, Al cielo o al infierno? Si hermanito/a el cielo y el infierno también existen. Que uno crea o no en ello no va a hacer que dejen de existir. Mirna Valerio- Dirt Church Radio 103 Kia Ora Whanau. Matt was never as happy as when he woke up at 0130 for the chance to speak to the most wonderful Mirna Valerio. Mirna, now residing in Vermont, is a native of Brooklyn, NY, a former educator, cross-country coach, ultrarunner, obstacle course enthusiast, and author of the recently published memoir, A Beautiful Work in Progress. Although she began running in high school, she recommitted to the sport after a health scare in 2008. It was then that her love for running and all its attendant benefits were reignited. She soon started her blog Fatgirlrunning, about her experiences as a larger woman in a world of thinner athletes. Mirnas athletic story was featured in the WSJ, Runner’s World, on the NBC Nightly News, CNN, on the CW Network, and in the viral REI-produced documentary short, The Mirnavator. Her writing has been featured in Women’s Running Magazine, Self Magazine Online, Outside Online, and Runners World Magazine. And she was chosen as a 2018 National Geographic Adventurer of the Year. I mean, that’s a lot right? This felt like an incredible conversation for the times that we are living in. Insightful, authentic, challenging, and brilliant all at the same time. Climb the Hill 2020 is here, and my friend @katieboue and I are ready to virtually run down the halls of congress, make some bold requests, and engage in hard conversations!!! We hope you will join us!!!⠀ ⠀ This year @accessfund and @americanalpine are advocating for two amendments that live within the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). This seems odd... To advocate for a bill related to the military. Why should I as a climber care about this you ask?⠀ ⠀ So glad you asked!!! Two amendments that live within the NDAA are the Colorado Outdoor Recreation Economy Act (Core Act) and the Protecting America’s Wilderness Act (PAW Act). These bills have been in the works for YEARS, and came to be due to the willingness of countless stakeholders spending time negotiating, advocating for their needs, listening to one another, and ultimately coming up with these two kick-ass bills. ⠀ ⠀ A few hot-takes:⠀ ⠀ CORE Act would protect 400,000 acres of public land in Colorado + would designate a FIRST OF ITS KIND National Historic Landscape designation to honor the 10th Mountain Division and Camp Hale, which is the birthplace of many American climbing techniques and gear.⠀ ⠀ PAW Act combines 6 previously separate bills that together recognize more than 1.3 million acres of wilderness across the West and protect more than 1,000 river miles under the National Wild and Scenic Rivers System!!!⠀ ⠀ Additionally, @accessfund advocated for the Northwest California Wilderness Recreation and Working Forests Act and the Colorado Wilderness Act  (both in the PAW amendment) to include specific protections for Wilderness climbing activities. Every Storm runs out of rain! I believe you knew what you were doing when you kept me here, thank you....YEEHAW🙏🏽✨ One of the turning points in my life was about 3 months ago when I realized and accepted that I was dying in the hospital. Heart failure, surgery, internal bleeding and I flat lined. I spent a month learning how to walk again. In my mind I was down but I wasn’t out. You see, I don’t walk by sight, so the physical can’t lie to me, I walk by faith. In my mind and spirit I saw myself whole and healed, getting stronger and stronger everyday. Faith is not passive, we have to believe and act as if, while standing in the dark waiting. Life hit me with a mac truck, against all odds, and by grace I am still standing. When my energy got low, I went high, to the most high. Pain, heart attacks, internal bleeding and death means nothing to the one who knows who they are and where they come from. They underestimated me, I am not going anywhere, I am just getting started. Heart failure, heartbreaks, surgery, internal bleeding and death, these challenges made me, they molded and shaped me into the amazing spiritual being I am today. “All things are possible to them that believeth”. When it looks like you are down and out, that there’s no way you can ever come back, get a vision of what you want and only focus on and take the actions that will get you there. Set your intention to the level of the creator’s ability, not your own. We have come too far to stop now, YOU have come way too far to quit! Thank you for your prayers, love and light fam, I appreciate every message. “Let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we don’t lose heart”.
