There will be some changes in clinic to adhere to covid19 guidelines to keep us safe. When we can open, I will be in touch with those that missed their appointments during level 3. The theatre of Epidavros, Peloponnese, Greece. The Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus is a theatre in the Greek city of Epidaurus, located on the southeast end of the sanctuary dedicated to the ancient Greek God of medicine, Asclepius. It is built on the west side of Cynortion Mountain, near modern Lygourio, and belongs to the Epidaurus Municipality. It is considered to be the most perfect ancient Greek theatre with regard to acoustics and aesthetics. According to Pausanias, the ancient theatre was constructed at the end of the 4th century BC by the architect Polykleitos the Younger. Pausanias praises the theatre for its symmetry and beauty. At a maximum capacity of 13,000 to 14,000 spectators, the theatre hosted music, singing and dramatic games that were included in the worship of Asclepius. It was also used as a means to heal patients, since there was a belief that the observation of dramatic shows had positive effects on mental and physical health. The first systematic excavation of the theatre began in 1881 by the Archaeological Society, under the direction of archaeologist Panayis Kavvadias and preserved in very good condition thanks to the restorations of P. Kavvadias (1907), of A. Orlandos (1954-1963) and the Preservation Committee for Epidaurus Monuments (1988 to 2016). The garden.... I am obsessed with looking at it from this view. I feel a sense of pride that I’m almost afraid to admit. I drew these shapes on a peice of paper more than 7 years ago. I had a vision. Now here it is fully manifested before my eyes, so full of life. In the thick of summer, I question my madness with it’s creation & care. All I can see is what needs to be done, who is sick or bug invested, or fallen over, or getting weedy, or ready for harvest AGAIN, or going to seed, or getting unruly or, or, or.... On the ground it is hard to see the bigger picture. Well here it is. For some reason seeing it from above allowed the reasons “why I do it” to come tumbling out. Many hands very dear to my heart have toiled alongside me with their hands in this bit of earth. It has been an art form, my medicine, my food, my inspiration. AND I get to share all of this with my loved ones, guests, and community. Why is it easier to see the things that need work & improvement, rather than what has been accomplished, experienced and enriched. A look back to 2014 when I was helping with some repair work on the Cabinet office. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The outside was damaged when a crane collapsed on the roof during high winds. Thankfully it happened early in the morning and no one was injured, the enormous hook smashed some paving slabs and damaged the exterior but thankfully nothing else. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We took moulds of the existing carvings and cut away the damaged sections before offering up new pieces of stone. Once those pieces fitted well we took them back to the workshop to carve on the detail. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Such beautiful carving on the building, great to be so up close to see the detail and the amount of work which went into it. The last few months has been a roller coaster of emotions, it’s been unprecedented & at times I have felt really unsure of what I was doing. Getting sick also has been hard, dealing with long term symptoms. But it’s been a very precious time as well, spending time with my family and taking time out. Today although I am very much still suffering from PVF (post viral fatigue) I managed to pop to the shop to start cleaning & sorting everything. It took a bit & I think it’s going to take a few more days to get it sorted. Fingers crossed I will be open on Thursday!! I really wanted to share this picture here, a record of getting the shop ready & the mess. Caterpillar of the Day Follow Along: Weekend Days 260/261⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ Meet the Maple Looper Caterpillar, Parallelia bistriaris.⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ The maple looper is easily overlooked, both as a frosted green early instar resting along maple leaf veins, and as a striated brown or gray final instar pressed against twigs and bark. Still, I have found them to be one of the most common caterpillars on summertime maples and a quick shake of a branch over a white sheet often produces a few. Careful with common names like looper which has been applied to caterpillars from at least three major moth families. The maple looper is in the family Erebidae, related to moths like underwings and Zales, and not at all related to the inchworm or vegetable patch loopers.⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ Raising caterpillars often yields surprises - things you would never discover through outdoor observation alone. Immediately after the maple looper pupates, the fresh pupa is smooth and dark brown like many others, but within hours it develops a thick frosty white powder across its entire surface. A group of art galleries and cultural institutions have decided to celebrate #ZonaMonti, the area around Via Vincenzo Monti in Milan, a stone’s throw from the Sforza Castle, where they all have their headquarters. On September 30 Federico Luger, Officine Saffi, Pananti Atelier, Podbielski Contemporary, Galleria Tonelli, Viasaterna, Vincenzo Agnettis Archive, the Piero Portaluppi Foundation, and the Fondazione Stelline will be open from 12pm to 10pm and in the afternoon there will be two guided tours to discover the architecture of the area between the 1920s and the post-war period. Что же это по вашему - жизнь или удачный маркетинг(?) А вы сами участвуете в этом движении и как именно если да? И вообще, нужно ли рассказывать о своих подвигах? Иными словами, - сажать дерево в парке в прямом эфире инсты или молча сортировать дома мусор? . UNA RUCA DE HACE 600 AÑOS Y ARQUEOLOGÍA DE LAS CASAS. Nuestras casas🏘️(un lugar en el que hemos estado mucho éstos últimos meses) a partir de la configuración de su espacio (cómo se distribuye) y los materiales empleados para su construcción nos puede decir mucho sobre el tipo de sociedad en la que vivimos y el rol que nosotr@s tenemos dentro de esa sociedad. También nos dice mucho de la relación que tenemos con nuestro medio ambiente: un iglú por ej tiene una lógica en el polo norte🌨️ pero en el norte de chile🏜️ sería algo súper inviable. O en el sur muchas casas son de madera ya que este recurso abunda🏞️ y su diseño está pensado para resistir las lluvias🌧️ Todos los objetos que fabricamos y cómo se integran entre si tienen una lógica en nuestra sociedad. Es por lo anterior que para la arqueología estudiar casas (que nosotr@s llamamos también contextos doméstico o habitacionales) nos da valiosa información para saber sobre las formas de vidas del pasado y qué tradiciones en estos modos de habitar o vivir se han mantenido hasta hoy en día y que cosas han cambiado a lo largo del tiempo en relación a diversos procesos sociales y acontecimientos históricos. En las fotos se muestra la planta de una ruca de hace unos 600 años atrás que se logró identificar gracias a excavaciones arqueológicas a cargo del arqueólogo Rodrigo Mera (gracias por las fotos😍). Asociados a ésta se encontraron restos de fogones🔥, improntas de postes, cuentas de collar, semillas, pesas para red de pesca🐟, fragmentos de cerámica; distintos materiales que al asociarlos (o juntarlos cómo un puzzle) nos permite saber aspectos de la sociedad mapuche antes de la llegada del Español. Joel Maripil, dedicado a transmitir y continuar con diversas tradiciones de su cultura dice que hay rucas de diversos tamaños, algunas hasta con 5 fogones, donde se hacen también reuniones o encuentros (cahuines). La ruca de su abuelo estuvo en pie cómo 100 años. Se fabrican con diversos materiales locales como madera y paja ratonera. Lo anterior coincide con relatos de cronistas y viajeros del pasado. Ive been trying out some new techniques in the studio! Im so so excited to share this project with you guys! For now, heres a little taster. I dont want to give it all away because ive got to keep somewhat of an element of surprise, but youve all seen me working with porcelain anyway ( which is not my normal clay of choice). Ive been staining porcelain and working on a process called Nerikomi. Nerikomi is where you build patterns and shapes by using different colours of the same clay body to make an image, pattern or illustration without using glaze. Its a tricky and lengthy process because the clay formed is very prone to air bubbles and cracking (so yes, this could all end in tears but fingers crossed!) Dont worry though! Im still loving brutalism and working with brutal forns alongside this has made me super excited and inspired, and given me so many new ideas! Сон напрямую связан с двумя гормонами: мелатонином и кортизолом. Кортизол - гормон помогающий нам пережить стресс. Для его выработки нужен витамин С. Поэтому есть смысл начать принимать его дополнительно, чтобы не допустить истощения витамина С в организме. А для того, чтобы поймать максимальное количество мелатонина важно лечь спать в 22:00, максимум до 23:00 и проснуться до 7:00. Знаю, сложно. Чтобы было проще исключаем: ⠀ ❌ голубой свет. Излучение от гаджетов, телевизора и компьютера. За 2 часа убираем все гаджеты, а с 21:00 ставим режим желтого экрана на смартфон для исключения голубого излучения. ⠀ ❌ дневной свет. Блэкаут шторы, либо светонепроницаемая повязка на глаза. Помимо этого для комфортного сна рекомендую приобрести удобные беруши. ⠀ Посвятите время перед сном тому, что вас успокаивает. Например, прослушиванию (не смотря при этом в телефон) медитации/звуков природы.., чтению книги или принятию успокаивающей ванны. ⠀ Кстати, одна из действенных wellness-привычек для быстрого засыпания - теплая ванная, например, с эфирными маслами лаванды/мяты, либо с магниевой солью. Магний способствует укреплению нервной системы и лучше усваивается из вне. Магниевые соли Эпсома стоят достаточно дорого, а соли бишофит - одна из доступных альтернатив ( 1 пакетик - на ванную). Уже 5 процедур помогут успокоить нервы и наладить сон. Полезно и детям в период повышенной перевозбудимости, и взрослым. ⠀ Шаг 2. Чай из травок- адаптогенов перед сном, если нет противопоказаний. (Все про адаптогены в ленте, не поленитесь, прочтите). ⠀ Шаг 3. Дышите перед сном 5 минут животом. Это поможет снять спазм в области диафрагмы. See a specialist. I’m telling you, you’re stressing too much and that’s why you aren’t getting pregnant. Don’t see a specialist you haven’t been trying for that long. Time for another baby isn’t it!? Just don’t think about it & it’ll happen. Hurry up and get pregnant will you! Take supplements. You should probably lose some weight if you wanna get pregnant. Make sure you’re not eating meat, or dairy, or carbs, or fats, or sugar. My doctor said I’m just super fertile. Don’t drink. Is that a baby bump I see!? Just live your life as usual. Stop obsessing over it! Do acupuncture. Don’t go to the gym. Are you pregnant? Keep exercising. Are you pregnant? You should meditate. Are you pregnant? The clocks ticking. ARE YOU PREGNANT!? The journey to conceiving can be long. And heartbreaking. And lonely. It can also be filled with everyone around you getting pregnant. And navigating those emotions, the absolute delight for your friends & family with a mixture of jealousy & self loathing is extreme. Why is it happening for everyone else but not us? What’s wrong with us? What’s wrong with...me...? You are allowed to feel everything you are feeling. Be honest. Protect your space. Try your best to celebrate life & the beginnings of it for others. Recognise your jealousy but try not to act upon it. Your ovaries do not equate to your self worth just like the number on the scales doesn’t. CALLING ALL 🧄 LOVERS! We’ve got Hardneck Garlic for planting in Fall of 2020 with shipping starting the last week of September! This Hardneck-Rocambole type is popular late 1800’s heirloom variety from the Pacfic Northwest. Hot and spicy when raw, rich and flavorful when sauteed or roasted. Each bulb has an average of 8-12 cloves wrapped in a light purple striped, easy to peel skin. Performs best in northern climates. Dont forget to harvest and eat the scapes (Soup, Pesto, Hummus—YUM!) the following spring or leave a few on to produce bulblets for planting next fall. Stores 4-6 months. PLANTING: Separate cloves, plant 2-4 inches deep and 5-6 inches apart with pointed end up, 3-4 weeks before the ground freezes. HARVESTING: When lower 4-5 leaves have dried. Dry and hang out of direct light in a warm area with food air circulation. After they have dried for 2-3 weeks, cut off the stem, 1 from bulb and trim roots. TIPS: Plant in well drained, rich soil, amend with organic matter, such as compost. Mulch the garlic 4 with straw or chopped leaves, this helps protect from extreme winter conditions, keeps soil evenly moist and controls weeds for next season. Cut off scapes when they emerge (the curly seed stalk that will rise from the middle of the plant) so plant can put its energy into producing the bulb, not seed head. You can leave scapes on, producing smaller bulbs and the bulbets from the seed head can be planted for full sized garlic in 2 years. XVIII : - ânfora -metal dourado e cinzelado, ornamentadas por duas figuras de Mulher, segurando grinaldas de flores, com tampas. Hoje mostramos o ANTES e o início da limpeza da peça. Derek Jarman’s garden is providing us with a timely meditation on resilience and beauty in an uncertain world. We just learned that adequate funds have been raised to restore the garden and create an artists residency at the cottage. Jarman started planting his now famous garden not long after learning he was HIV positive, finding great comfort establishing garden beds full of hardy plants that stretch beyond any imagined borders out towards the nearby power station. My favourite thing I learnt about the vulva is the vestibule. It’s the bit inside the labia where your urethra (where wee comes out) and the vaginal opening are. It also houses the Skene’s glands either side of your urethra and your Bartholins glands near your vaginal opening. Both these glands help with lubricating your vulva. The Skene’s glands can release a milky substance when you orgasm, sort of thought of as the female ejaculate. This doesnt happen to everyone though so dont worry if it doesnt happen to you. The vestibule is hairless, usually a bit moist and quite delicate. It’s similar to the skin inside your vagina so it needs the protection of your labia and pubic hair to keep it safe. I think I just love the idea of a vestibule, like a little area to hang out in. It seems safe and warm and cosy. And who doesn’t want to be somewhere safe and warm and cosy? If anyone is curious as to how i paint my sculptures ( @stormbrush im looking at you) here is a quick video. The first layers are primer over the epoxy casting - normally i use a mixture of grey and red oxide primers for the first coat. Then i apply some acrylic base. This stage usually looks a bit garish and the transistions in particular are awful to look at. What you are seeing at the beginning of the video is a thin layer of oil - usually earth tones thinned with gamsol. Over that i dry brush my premixed flesh tones which are normally on the cooler side. Juicing Celery 🌱 (Part 1 of 2) One of the best things I’ve done for my health is bringing in celery every morning. I’ve been plant-based for 5 years now and started juicing celery 2 years ago while I was still a nursing student. I was very open-minded because of all the amazing transformations and healing stories behind celery juice. I was also battling my own health complications at the time and I wanted to see for myself if celery could truly help relieve my symptoms without having to take any form of medication. (I want to point out that during this time I was eating a plant-based diet, so I was only adding celery juice to my morning routine) It surprised me that it only took a few days for symptoms to disappear. I was eternally grateful. Never again did I take a medication for what I was battling with and as the years went on I saw relief from many other symptoms that took longer to heal such as anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, and many others. The most interesting thing about this is that there is still no scientific research on celery juice, but what is true is the thousands of testimonies from women, men, and children healing from it’s benefits. I believe every green juice is amazing and believe there are a million different ways to heal the body. This is just one of them and one I have personally experienced and have seen work on my family and friends followed alongside a plant-based diet.
