A month after I had my son, this is what I looked like. This is a very normal postpartum body. I’m smiling, but inside I’m worried about “snapback culture”, “who tf do I think I am wearing a two piece when I look like this?” “Is everyone looking at my stretch marks?” “Let me appear confident as I can as a defense mechanism.” This is me 13 months postpartum. A normal postpartum body. I’m smiling because I feel at peace in my body. I’m smaller, but besides that I’ve begun to learn health is more than fat loss. I’ve begun to love on + appreciate my body for what it has done for me in the past, what is does to merely keep me alive everyday. That came with an understanding of what fitness + health really is. In the fitness industry (and many others tbh), women are preyed on by their insecurities. One day it’s “how to get a thigh gap”, the next day it’s “how to fix your hip dips”. Another day it’s “blast body fat with this workout” & the next day it’s “how to gain weight” because not having curves isn’t feminine enough. Every day, we have a new thing to worry about. We deserve better. We should “Demand Better” for ourselves (as my girl @littlelyssfitness says). If you’re going hard on all the swipe workouts, but aren’t getting the results your looking for, how does that make you feel? (btw swipe workouts are SO fun, & movement in general is great but what happens when you’re not making the progress you’re looking for?) When you do all the “fat blasting” workouts, take all the skinny teas, and fat burners, buy all the anti-cellulite body sponges (yes, that’s a real product 😣) + those don’t work, how does that make you feel? Not empowered, like you SHOULD feel. We deserve to know the real deal about our bodies, about the sustainable changes we can make to move towards our goals + how we are allowed to love ourselves every step of the way. We deserve to feel empowered and educated. We don’t need the crazy diets, the gimmicks + the games, iight? I LOVE my fitspos, so don’t @ me, but I‘ve tagged some amazing coaches that I’ve learned from & who’ve helped make my health + fitness journey more tangible + sustainable for me! Im not much of a social media user and Tara and I tend to be private about our relationship...but 8 years agoTara and I had our first date. We were teenagers who knew very little about love and had no idea where we fit in the world or what we truly wanted in life. For a platform that is based on visuals there is a lot of pressure on the captions. Words are important, especially now, and I’ve been thinking about how to get back to posting my client work. I’m a person who literally feels “all the feels” but the heavy feelings have been pretty intense this year so much so that it is affecting my physical health. I can’t just jump back into social media. There’s so much going on right now and I find myself using Instagram differently than I was. I feel sad for the sick, sad for those experiencing injustice, sad for those who have lost their jobs, sad for those who are afraid for their loved ones, sad for families making really tough decisions, sad for those who on top of all the other terrible stuff going on are experiencing unrelated trauma that life is throwing them. It would be inauthentic of me if i got on here and pretended i wasn’t feeling all of this. I’ve found different ways to show case my client’s images on my website/blog and that seems to be working at the moment. I know I’m going against all the advice of needing to post daily, show up in your stories, etc, but that doesn’t serve me right now. There’s good an bad in all marriages, ours included, but the good outweighs the bad for us, because that’s what we focus on. -We don’t ever fight or bicker in public. Nothing makes us more uncomfortable than having couples dig into each other in front of everyone else. If you want to be a team, you’ve got to lift each other up, not tear each other down. -When we forgive each other for something, we actually mean it. There’s no purpose in “forgiving” someone, if you’re not going to let it go. -We apologize when we’re wrong, and we don’t try to prove it when we’re right. In the wise words of Wade Bowen, “I cant stand it when Im wrong, but being right aint worth the cost. Yeah cause sometimes a battle won is a battle lost.” -We always tell the truth, and we always trust one another. Truth and trust go hand in hand, if you’re not willing to put forth one, you can’t have the other—nor can you expect it from your spouse. -We do the little things for each other, and although they’re little, they mean a lot. When I was pregnant, Justin would have a piece of toast sitting on my nightstand almost every morning. Here are some of the ways you can consider being a conscious consumer when it comes to fashion: 🌸 Doing your research and buying from solely ethical and sustainable brands 🌸 Shopping second-hand - either from thrift stores, insta-stores or places like Designer Wardrobe or Recycle Boutique 🌸 Getting ‘new’ pieces from clothes swaps or from friends and family 🌸 Looking into your own wardrobe and wearing and re-wearing pieces year after year #reweardontcare 🌸 Shopping new from fast fashion brands (because it’s often your only choice in terms of accessibility in terms of size inclusion and cost) BUT being very aware of the fabrics you’re choosing AND only buying because you know the piece will be worn at least 30 times. “Who am I?” I whisper to myself as I walk past the mirror in my bathing suit, excited to soak up the remainder of quickly-falling temps. It’s not the first time I’ve walked past the mirror and wondered if the reflection truly matched the vision that is so colorful inside of me. I’ve worked so hard to destroy the masks I’ve placed upon myself, stripping away the labels of other people misplaced insecurity and self-hate. Yet, still. STILL. There is more. And I’m tired. Tired of walking past the mirror and not recognizing myself, or feeling ashamed for the “imperfect” parts of myself. Tired of wearing the mask of masculinity disguised as some sort of award for being who everyone else is asking me to be. For many years, I felt uncomfortable in front of the camera period because I didn’t feel “pretty enough to be a model” and thought of myself as the “awkward” girl... Let alone showing up in a bathing suit. But I longed for someone to tell me I was beautiful. I longed for someone to notice that I had something of value to offer the world other than my looks. I longed for someone to tell me that I belong with them, not romantically, just unconditionally. Half of a YEAR with Richard Beau ❤️ After Beau was born in January, we quarantined during the peak of flu season and made plans to resume normal life once he was passed six weeks old in mid-March. Mid-March came and along with it, a historic pandemic and shift to life as we know it. So we entered into a stricter quarantining. For most of his life, Beau only knew the four faces of our family unit. I thought he would be a nervous baby, especially around new people. But when he sees a new person, anyone (!), he kicks his feet and grins with his whole face (nose wrinkle and dimples included) and makes intentional eye contact with his sparkly, happy eyes. We are so grateful for the little sunshine that he is! From the day he was born, he has been a daily bright spot and encouragement for each of us. Though we may end up somewhat quarantining through his first year of life or more, we are genuinely grateful for the opportunity to slow down and soak up his baby grin. ;) - @karisbriscoe on Instagram

Six months ago today I met the love of my life. My hair has been in a rats nest ever since (and I have holes in all my underwear) the world she was born into shut down the day after her grand arrival. She never got to meet her Mimi (trust me, if it weren’t for COVID Mimi would have been on the first flight out here) but this little naked lady right here is the reason i believe in tomorrow. It’s been three and a half years since I spent a day with Jacob. The summer is bittersweet without him - he made these days feel limitless. I miss the little things - like the pattern of his curls and the sound he made before bursting into laughter. I ache for my friendship with him, and the way he made me feel understood. Why my life is so great: I have the ability and capacity to assess my thoughts and be aware of when Im either moving towards or away, from the life that I desire. Remember, at any given moment we have a choice. Therefore, you can do this too! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Today I dont try to be anybody other than me. I have the freedom I declared Id have by the time I have a family, to stay home and BE with them. I work 2 days/week and occasional weekends. (...and did I also mention that I LOVE what I do? Connecting and having conversations for my work, and seeing people transform before your very eyes, is one of the most rewarding jobs out there IMO💁♀️ but thats a whole other convo) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I have a house with quartz countertops throughout, a deep tub, separate shower, a basement for a home gym, a large master bedroom with a WIC, a room for Nate, one for my office space that will no longer be my dining room. plus a spare room for us to grow in a few years if we ever want that option. Greenbelt and walking trails nearby. Fenced in backyard. Spacious entry. Laundry on main, and entrance from garage. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This house literally had everything I had on my list!! We get the keys tomorrow, yet I havent found myself truly CELEBRATING, because subconsciously I was holding onto some shame of it not actually being MINE. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ No, I dont own a home despite people saying thats what makes you stable and secure in life. You see, the type of house and life I want to live, I KNOW Ill need a lot of money for; the types that stable and secure doesnt quite get you. I couldve been a homeowner...Instead, I chose to invest over $180,000 that I earned, back in my business🤯just calculated that. My honest opinion? Im THANKFUL. Aber wer kennt es nicht, kaum 500m gelaufen, schon mag, will oder kann das Kind nicht mehr und will in den Buggy oder auf den Arm. Mit unserer super easy und ultra leichten Schultertrage von Minimeis kein Problem. Man braucht keinen Buggy mitnehmen. Man kann jede Wanderung laufen, ohne Rücksicht auf Geländetauglichkeit für den Kinderwagen zu nehmen. Die Trage ist ganz klein und leicht zusammen geklappt. Also sehr handlich. Lola sitzt total bequem und sicher darin und hat wirklich viel Freude von da oben. Ich weiß noch wie wir im Sommer im Harz waren, extra mit Bollerwagen, aber die Route dafür nicht tauglich war. Ich hatte Lola dann die ganze restliche Wanderung auf dem Arm getragen. Die ganze Zeit 12kg. Hätte ich da mal die Schultertrage gehabt 😅 Ich wurde direkt schon gefragt, ob die Trage irgendwann Rücken- oder Nackenschmerzen macht: Nein, überhaupt nicht! Es fühlt sich sehr angenehm und sicher an. Please remember that your weight does not define you or your beauty. I work really hard at loving myself at every weight and I struggle daily to remember that this body is just the holder of my soul. What matters is that I am happy, healthy and surrounded by people who love me no matter what I look like. I’m not on a “weight loss kick”. I am actively working to become stronger, more flexible and healthier! I’m happy that my weight is going down and that my body is changing because it’s the visual representation of how hard I am working on growing and healing myself INSIDE & out but weight loss/gain does not define me. . I know it’s hard to push past those inherent beliefs thats being thin is what makes people beautiful or worthy. I know a lot of us (especially in Latin culture) have to go our whole lives listening to our loved ones tell us “wow you have gained weight!” “you used to be so pretty when you were thin” “do you really want to eat that?” “I just want you to be healthy” or my personal favorite: they introduce you to people as “chubby now but she used to be thin” (as if that shit has anything to do with WHO I am) It can be hard to not let those comments define you, or make you feel like you’re not worthy bc you’re not thin. . I know just how hard it is to break free from the unwavering obsession people have with weight and CHOOSE to love yourself no matter what...But it’s so so worth it. It’s tough and takes daily affirmations and reminders that you are WORTHY....some days you’ll feel like a goddess and others like a toad but that’s fine, it’s all part of the journey. . What’s important to remember is that your body is YOURS and yours alone, so you get to do with it as you please without owing anyone an explanation. Motherhood in all of it’s glory. Don’t be fooled by these squares, this is what I actually look like 99% of the time. Motherhood is milk stains, tired eyes, and unwashed hair. It’s spit up and three am blowouts. It’s sleepless nights and early mornings. It’s mountains of laundry, a sink full of dishes and sticky floors. It’s counting down the hours until bedtime just to miss them and watch them while they sleep. It’s loving them so fiercely it hurts. You will do anything and everything to protect them. You will hurt when they hurt. You will want to change the world and make it a better place just for them.
