As I’ve began this new year with huge amounts of bliss and immense creative passion, spending my New Years with new friends, beautiful luxurious new experiences and a more evolved love for myself and my partner, I came to what’s called and upper limit in the month following. Have you ever been on such a high in your experience but end up creating something that brings everything crashing down around you and you feel like all is lost? Like the past experience will never be that incredible again? I have. And my inner dialogue kept telling me I failed, I failed. Not seeing it as an opportunity for growth in that moment, but like all I want to do is to give up. Well that was me. I’ve been playing the victim over and over and even with my partner, coach, and myself supporting me I still played out that story. It’s time I get real and vulnerable and share that this story is to be shed like on old skin. It’s time for me to go deep within and use the tools I’ve been given to do the work. I am incredibly grateful to be held in such a beautiful energetic container by the people who love me, see my strength, and understand that my true being is oneness. Here is a picture of me smiling. I smile a lot, even when I don’t feel like it. Especially when I don’t feel like it. I used to think that was super lame. And of course you can’t solve your own problems let alone anyone else’s just by smiling. It’s a start though. Now I rely on smiling as a dumb-ass physiological pick me up that helps me ward off sadness, which for me unfortunately always feels not too far away. Smiling keeps it at bay. Plus, for bonus points, you can smile at other people. People you know, or strangers. They’ll feel great, and then you’ll feel great because you did something really wonderful for another person, even though you didn’t need to. And then of course you’ll have that secret knowledge that really you only smiled at them for your own selfish reasons and to make yourself feel better. And then you’ll feel even more awesome. Feeling good ☀️💙 over two months plant based diet has really helped with my physical and mental health. Hitting a wall at a stage where I was extremely stressed and physically exhausted I decided I need to make a change. Iv always felt guilty about eating animals but looking In I realised the process of herding an animal into food creates so much stress and anxiety traveling over to us and the way we grow as humans. Talvez você não esteja reconhecendo ela. Mas aqui, logo atrás de mim, está a árvore que eu, tão orgulhosamente, instalei na minha casa (na verdade, na minha cozinha!) em setembro do ano passado pra marcar o final da incrível reforma no meu apartamento no Rio. Abandonada por quatro meses, nesse período em que fiquei em São Paulo, ela não resistiu a esse isolamento. Não esteve totalmente sem cuidados. Dona Antonia, que trabalha comigo e que você conheceu nesse trabalho incrível que eu fiz ano passado no “É De Casa”, segue vindo aqui em casa a cada 15 dias pra dar uma geral. Mas não foi o suficiente pra essa figueira tão exuberante. Hoje galhos secos, ela foi o destaque do apê logo que me mudei novamente pra cá - você consegue encontrar fotos lidas dela aqui mesmo no meu feed, um ano atrás. Mas agora ela está assim... Sei que parece estranho eu lamentar a morte de uma árvore em meio a uma pandemia que, só no Brasil já matou mais de 140 mil pessoas. Porém não quero diminuir a reflexão sobre essa terrível crise que atravessamos mas sim ampliá-la. Porque em cada perda sentimos, de uma árvore a um parente querido, pensamos inevitavelmente nesse momento que atravessamos. Nos recordamos de como a vida é breve e efêmera. Frágil e carente de atenção. Parece estranho falar que dias tão tristes nos oferecem ao menos algumas lições mas hoje aqui, olhando essas folhas mortas, só consigo pensar no amanhã. Em tudo que está vivo e depende do nosso cuidado. E em como, no final do dia, somos nós mesmos que temos que cuidar uns dos outros. Para que a vida siga em frente de uma maneira digna. Mas olha: esta não é uma manhã melancólica, que fique claro. Bastou eu abrir a janela da minha sala e olhar o verdume do Jardim Botânico onde moro para eu sentir que nesta primavera, como em todas, existe sim a promessa de renovação. I’m going to leave here for a bit. I’m tired, I’m worn out, and I need to rest. This place has brought me more abundance than I could have ever imagined. It has given me the most crystal clear affirmations that what I put into the world has some value and worth. It has given me a level of confidence in myself and in my values, thoughts and opinions that has truly helped me grow as a person and an artist. It has also highlighted parts of myself that, while they’re important that I see in myself, aren’t something that I care to be putting myself through so regularly. I have slowly come to realize that I did not evolve in such a way that equipped me to be the subject of so much critique, praise, attention, ridicule, love and judgement. But more specific to my relationship with this platform is that, while I am aware of my inability to handle it, I have given myself unfettered access to it. And the more alarming aspect of it is that there is little to no consciousness to my level of interaction with it. I feel like the smoker who‘s routine has become so habitual that not a single thought goes into their actions, never once weighing the potential harm this short lived experience of sensation may bring. I feels like an utter disconnect from reality when I find myself doing something so thoughtlessly, knowing that it’s more subtractive than it is additive to my wellness. The sense of authorship and autonomy in my life that I have surrendered to this platform is disconcerting, to say the least. This is something I’m still in the midst of working out as it has become such a big part of my life and identity it’s going to take some real priority evaluation and introspection to understand what role I want it to have in my life. (For guidance with that I am reading ‘Digital Minimalism by Cal Newport) At the end of the day, all I want to do, more than anything, is to share my art with the world and don’t believe that should come at any cost to my mental health. Thank you for bearing with me in this time while I figure out how to take some steps to reconnect with a more genuine sense of myself. Сам по себе остров здоровый, на нем много населенных пунктов. Один из них - это Себу Сити. Местный административный округ, в котором ночью страшно выходить на улицы и у всех охранников на улице либо пистолет, либо огромный дробовик. Классное место для отдыха выбрали?)) ⠀ Остановились мы в гостинице, которая называется One Central hotel. Гостиница вообще впорядке, и завтраки хорошие, и бассейн на последнем этаже, и в этом же отеле есть торговый центр, и в лобби помогут байк снять, ну и главное не очень дорого. Если кто соберётся на Себу, есть номер ребят, которые тебе байк прям к отелю привезут. ⠀ Места, которые на Себу можно посетить: -торговый центр Ayala и район вокруг него. Остров цивилизации. Все топовые магазины, фудкорт, всё как надо. Ну и не боишься, что тебе по затылку палкой ударят. ⠀ -водопады Kawasan (1.5 часа на байке) Это конечно «пушка страшная». Очень красиво, очень людно. Обязательно для посещения. -купание с Акулой. Это можно сделать здесь, а можно в другом месте, расскажу об этом в следующем посте. ⠀ Собственно, всё. Больше на Себу делать нечего. “It takes a lot of effort to have fun”. Another successful #cort (Colorado road trip) in the books. My boys are straight savages and killed it the entire time we were out there. Camping in the middle of nowhere, enduring hot days and near freezing nights, while caravanning around to different skateparks to crush at elevation takes a lot out of you, but we get everything that is taken from us back 9X over, worth it. I think this is my 5th year making the road trip and every time I gain experience and perspective. Proud of my boys for their performance out there, in the skate park and at the camp sites, every one of you impressed me, thanks for putting up with me and I’m proud to call you friend. I’ve taken this shot so many times over so many years and never get tired of the light variations of the sky and sun against the house. It always feels like the same shot, but when I look back I can see so many different nuances in each photo. Yesterday morning I asked my daughter to put ME in the photo, I guess because the house and this place is so comforting to me. So just for fun we did it. It may look like I’m freezing in the pic, but not really. The wind was whipping again at 19 mph, but my heavy thick quilted old barn coat kept me relatively warm; for more than the obvious reason. About 25 years ago I was shopping with my Dad. I spied the raw sienna colored coat from across the floor at Macy’s, but it was in the Mens Department. My dad said “Go try it on, it will keep you warm, and will look good on you”. I said “But dad it’s a mens coat. And it’s way big!!!” He said “Buy it”. So I did. It’s never left the Cape house since, and whenever I put it on, I can almost feel his arms wrapped around me. It’s like a big huge blanket to wear, and yes, it does keep me warm when those blustery gales come in. It’s like a big hug from him, and nothing else will do but this coat on those days here. grand is an understatement. Highly recommend hiking the Grand Canyon rim to rim if you have the chance. Also *highly* recommend doing it with someone as grand as Maddy at your side when you do. now for some real talk— though I have a tendency to give an impression of an aloof and somewhat perfect life on this platform, to be honest, the past few months have been crazy busy and stressful just with getting back into the swing of things this school year. And since I’ve always been an advocate for using social media as a tool to show what’s really going on, here you go. Life is tough. Sometimes we don’t understand what happens to us. But the test the Lord gives us (or at least the one He’s been giving me) is to choose Him even when things are hard. Even when we don’t feel 100%. Even when we can’t see even the dimmest flicker of light to guide us on to the next step. He asks us to go through some pains, to take on a little bit of our own suffering, and despite all of that continue to choose Him. This is the only way we gain faith, the only way that we grow and become more like Him. In each of these “grand canyons” (forgive me) we may find ourselves in, it can be intimidating to look up and see how far we have to go. So instead of focusing on the entire ascent, we should be appreciating each moment of the climb, facing the most current challenge ahead of us. I gotta say it. 34 was hard as fuck. It was a hard year, but the perspective you give something matters.. so fuck it. Pressure makes diamonds and to become one you have to learn HOW to change. If there is something that you want, do it. It’s yours. This is our time. It’s my life. It’s your life. Let nothing get in the way. . Maybe it’s loosing 115 lbs, or maybe it’s going in and repairing past emotional and physical trauma, reliving it all in the process. Maybe it’s learning to trust again or to forgive, or finding confidence in yourself. Maybe it’s saving your marriage, or relationship, or your friendships. Maybe it’s realizing there is a different way to view life and that gratitude is the better way...EVERY TIME. Maybe it’s the realization that no matter what you teach your kid the person they will become is the person you stare at in the mirror and that scares the shit out of you because you KNOW truly who that person is. . Those were some of my changes, my battles. I have a lot more. Maybe yours are similar, maybe they are different... no matter... fix the image of who you want to be in your mind. Then refine that image, create steps, create a system to help you and stick to those things. . Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t. . You can. . Don’t discourage yourself. . You can do it. . You will, because you must. You’ll have days you feel like you’ve failed or you want to quit. You haven’t, you won’t. Keep going. It’s just a feeling, it will pass, get back in. •• LIVE WELL WITH CANCER CHARITY WALK •• Tomorrow, Ben Elliott - co-founder of The Alpha Complex and member of our men’s group - The Alpha Collective - is walking 33 miles around North Tyneside for the charity @livewellwithcancer. Starting and finishing at @myspanishcity, this was supposed to be a 15 hour group challenge, but with the local restrictions put in place, @localcelebritybenelliott is going to take the walk on alone, all in the name of supporting the charity with their fantastic work. @livewellwithcancer are supporting those affected by cancer in our region. They are early in their journey, but they are committed, knowledgable, and they have the skills to make a difference 🔥 Ben has been one of my closest friends for around 12 years now. We lived together for 5 of those, where we won the gameshow - Pointless - and have written over a million words (in unison) in various disciplines as screenwriters and novelists. He is a confidant, a brother, and with his kindness and intelligence as superpowers, he is quite literally in a league of his own.
